Arden laughed softly as he paced around his room, hands tucked behind his back. The memory of all the small mischief he had caused Ryder these past few days played clearly in his head.

Every time Ryder got angry, Arden couldn’t help but find it amusing. The man’s face always went red, his brows furrowed, still, Arden found it unfair that Ryder hadn’t even mentioned releasing him. After all this time, after all the drama, he was still stuck here in this mansion.

He sighed, rubbing his neck. “That man really is a hard nut to crack,” he muttered to himself.

Just then, a knock sounded on the door.

Arden turned. “Come in,” he said.

The door opened, and Asher stepped inside.

“Asher,” Arden said with a wide smile, happy to see him.

Asher smiled back faintly and walked toward the bed. He sat down, letting out a long sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair.

Arden tilted his head. “You okay? You look like someone who just lost a fight with their thoughts.”

Asher chuckled s

  • HEIR OF PAIN   Chapter 127

Arden woke up the next morning, his eyes meeting the familiar ceiling dimly lit by the warm glow of the bedside lamp. He exhaled slowly, turning to his side—but the space beside him was empty. Ryder was gone. A slight pang of worry settled in his chest. He quickly sat up and looked around the room. Where could he be this early? Before his thoughts could spiral further, Ryder stepped out of the walk-in closet. The moment their eyes met, a smile spread across Ryder’s face as he walked toward the bed. When he reached Arden, he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. “Good morning, Ardey,” Ryder said softly. “Good morning,” Arden replied, his voice low, almost a whisper. “Did you have a good night’s rest?” Ryder asked, tilting his head slightly. Arden nodded. He couldn’t deny the fact that he had slept well. Not that he usually had trouble sleeping, but tonight felt different. There was no heaviness pressing down on his chest, no lingering guilt. A weight he hadn’

Ryder opened his eyes as he heard the door open. Corner stepped into the office quietly. The moment his eyes fell on Ryder sitting on the couch with Arden asleep in his arms, his steps slowed. Arden’s head rested against Ryder’s chest, his breathing calm and even, one arm loosely wrapped around Ryder’s waist. Corner immediately understood he had come at the wrong time. He bowed slightly and turned to leave. “I am sorry, Boss. I will come back later,” Corner said softly. “No need,” Ryder replied. Corner stopped and nodded, turning back fully. His expression shifted from hesitation to focus. “Boss,” Corner said, lowering his voice, “since we are about to release Derek, what should we do with his father?” Ryder did not answer immediately. His gaze dropped to Arden’s face, peaceful in sleep, so different from the broken expression he had worn earlier. Ryder’s hand moved instinctively, gently stroking Arden’s hair. “Don’t release Derek yet,” Ryder said calmly. His voice was quiet

The world seemed to stop. Not just the world alone, but Ryder’s world too. Arden heaved softly as he felt his heart pounding fast against his chest, each beat louder than the last. His breathing was uneven, shallow, as though the air around him had suddenly become too heavy to breathe in. At that moment, Arden felt something lift off his chest, yet the relief did not come. Ryder’s hands were no longer gripping his arms, no longer holding him in place. Arden’s eyes stayed glued to the floor, fixed on the space between their feet, because he could not bring himself to raise his head. He was afraid. Afraid of what Ryder was thinking. What is he thinking of me now? Is he disgusted? Does he see me the way Carlos used to? Does he think I am cheap… dirty… a whore? The thoughts came fast, one after the other, each one sharper than the last. Arden swallowed hard, his throat burning as he struggled to keep himself together. The silence stretched on to the extent that it became unbearable

Ryder stood up the moment he noticed it. The fear and the sadness. They were both there, heavy and unmistakable in Arden’s eyes. It was the kind of look that told Ryder one thing clearly—whatever was on that video was really something he should know about.Ryder didn’t hesitate. He walked closer and placed both hands firmly on Arden’s shoulders. His voice dropped into a whisper, steady and reassuring.“Alright,” he said. “I won’t watch it.”Arden’s breath hitched. His lips trembled as he nodded, but the fear in his eyes did not fade.“Then… then I will have to delete it myself,” Arden said.Ryder studied him for a moment before answering. “Only if you tell me everything,” he replied calmly. “Only if you tell me why you’re like this.”Arden swallowed hard. His hands were shaking as he picked up the phone. He stared at the screen like it was a weapon pointed directly at his chest. With a slow movement, he pressed delete. The phone slipped from his fingers and landed softly on the table.

After a long while, Kyle finally came, and they had a full day of lectures before they were able to leave the faculty. By the time the last lecture ended, Arden felt both mentally and physically drained. As usual, the guards opened the car door for him. Arden stepped inside while Kyle waved at him from a distance. “Text me when you get home,” Kyle shouted. Arden nodded and closed the door. As the car pulled away, his smile slowly faded. His mind drifted back to the conversation he had with Daylen earlier. Arden sighed and leaned his head against the seat. After a moment, he brought out his phone and dialed Ryder’s number. The call was picked on the first ring. “How is my Ardey doing today?” Ryder asked warmly. Arden smiled softly. “Doing well. And you?” “If you’re doing well, then I’m doing well too,” Ryder replied. Arden chuckled. “Can I come over to your office today?” “Of course,” Ryder said. “But I’m quite busy today.” “That’s fine,” Arden replied quickly. “I

  • HEIR OF PAIN   Chapter 122

Later in the night, after eating dinner, Ryder and Arden returned back to their room. They lay in each other’s arms quietly. Ryder rested on his back, one arm wrapped firmly around Arden’s waist. Arden lay on his side, his head on Ryder’s chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Ryder’s fingers moved slowly, gently stroking Arden’s hair in a calming motion. The room was quiet, filled only with the sound of their breathing. “You have been quiet since I came back,” Ryder said softly. “Is there something wrong?” “So, you mean I am always noisy?” Arden asked as he raised his head slightly to look at Ryder. Ryder smiled and kissed his forehead. “That’s not what I mean. You are always lively, but now you’re extremely quiet.” Arden went silent again. He lowered his head back to Ryder’s chest, his fingers gripping Ryder’s shirt lightly. “Ryder,” Arden said after a long pause, “what if one day you find out a shameful secret about me?” Ryder frowned slightly. “How d
