MasukChapter Two
Monalisa walked slowly on the streets of the town, having no possible destination. She had finally become the street child she was born to be. It’s probably iconic to Margeret now Lightning struck between the clouds and the wind became wild. She could see people rushing to grab their goods in fear of the rain. Dirty umbrellas being closed and folded, curtains being drawn. In no time, it began to drizzle. Monalisa was scared of the rain, but tonight, she had no umbrella, no extra clothes, or even a place to sleep. She wouldn't ask to sleep in anyone's shop. They would surely ask her why she was not at home by this time of night. She didn't want to explain things to anyone, especially the people in this neighborhood who were gods and goddesses of gossip. Her mind thought to sleep in an abandoned building, but she quickly chased the thought away. No way!! Abandoned buildings were dens for dangerous smokers and drinkers. The rain grew heavier and the cold breeze blew, making her shiver. A loud thunderclap was heard, bursting waves of rain on the poor, angry, numb girl. Her clothes glued to her thin body, bringing out the outlines of her slimness. She stopped, trying hard to see through the curtain of rain for any abandoned building. She had no choice but to pass the night there since it was already raining heavily. "Lord, be with me," she prayed as she walked towards the abandoned building in front of her. Moments later . . . . Finally inside the building, she found a dusty plank which had buttons of dried cement. It was wide enough to accommodate her slimness. Hmm, Perhaps it's a bed for my kind, she thought. She closed her eyes, feeling the moonlight on her sad face and hearing the loud music the rain made outside. Five minutes later, she heard a loud thud accompanied by a husky groan. Her body froze. She lay stiff, not wanting to be noticed by the intruder. Her lips trembled a bit. "This stuff is sweet," the husky intruding voice spoke, and her head dimmed in realization. A drunkard was in the building, and fear was taking over her little body. She tried to calm herself, but her heart was thumping loudly in her chest. "I swear, I'm looking for a girl I gotta get laid ," another voice spoke, sounding youthful. Her heart was now banging in her small chest. Two drunkards in the building, and one of them looking for a girl? She should definitely get out of here or die in this building with two intoxicated men. They were on the last floor of the building. Running wouldn't be a task after all, she thought. She quietly got off the plank and tiptoed to the exit. Then a sneeze from nowhere came to her nose. "Who's there!!" The husky voice said, running down the stairs. Her body shivered in cold and fear, and her legs glued to the floor. Wow. She had finally been caught by these thugs, and now she was a piece of meat in the hands of wolves. "Stop right there!! If you move, I'll catch you," the voice barked. Monalisa could hear her intestines crumbling. "Bro, what's that? Why are you shouting?" The youthful voice said, climbing down the stairs. "Oh, it's a sexy little girl," he said naughtily. "Don't you dare call me that," she screamed to her own surprise. The two drunkards were taken aback by her boldness. Such boldness for someone who walked into a lions den huh? "If you're not a sexy little girl, then what are you?" he said, flashing a harsh torch on her face. "A fine girl too. Come to daddy, let's have some fun," the youth said, sending her fears rushing back. Have some fun? Good Lord. Is this my fate? she thought. How on earth would she be able to escape these lust blinded men?The door opened unexpectedly.Mona’s head jerked up from the bed just as Lilith stepped inside, the sunlight trailing behind. She didn’t knock, and she was unapologetic about it.Her gaze moved slowly across the room before she paused and stopped at the heavy curtains that sealed the windows.“You live like a prisoner,” she said lightly, her fingers closing around the thick fabric. Her hands carefully pulled them open, and a wave of sunlight spilled on the carpet. Lilith leaned against the window frame with a casual posture.“Relax, this room is yours, isn’t it?”Mona pushed the blanket aside, sitting upright. The sudden brightness made her blink, but she tried not to show it.“It must be strange for you,” Lilith continued, her voice carrying a strange calmness.“Um, I’m not sure that I understand.““I know it must have been hard for you to find out that vampires are real and not just the stories you hear around, oh young lady.” “… It… it was,” she admitted, her eyes dropping to her l
A loud honk echoed through the quiet grounds of the mansion.Bom! Bom!Mona looked up from the kitchen window. She watched as a black Bentley rolled slowly through the tall iron gates, riding toward the front of the mansion.Gabriella leaned beside her, wiping her hands on a cloth. The car stopped, and the driver hurried out first and opened the door. A tall, light-skinned woman stepped out. Her green dress flowed softly around her legs as she straightened up. Her dark sunglasses covered her eyes, and long cornrows framed her face neatly. Not only that, but her nails were polished perfectly, glinting briefly in the sun as she lifted a hand to adjust the strap of the designer bag hanging from her shoulder.Gabriella left the kitchen and hurried towards her.“My lady,” Gabriella greeted politely, reaching to take the bag from her.“This mansion never changes,” she said, glancing around the estate. “And the heat in this country is something else.” Gabriella smiled patiently. “We are ha
Chapter 11She doesn't remember how she walked back to her room from the kitchen.Moments ago she was beside Gabriella with a knife in her hand, chopping vegetables, while watching how the maid's body was being carried past her.She sat on her bed, staring at the wall, the afternoon sun slanting through the curtain. She was unaware of how much time passed, but her hands were still shaking. That could be me.The words echoed in her mind.“If Khaled didn’t come earlier, his brother could have killed me,” she muttered to herself. It was true. What would happen if she kept being stubborn?Or kept on talking back to everyone.“You self make!! (You’re not even all that.)” She recalled the words she fired back at the brother when he shamed her looks the first day she arrived. She lay back, staring at the ceiling, replaying the events from the kitchen.Raphael’s shirt was undone, and he glistened with sweat. Could it be that he…She covered her face with her palms, imagining the worst he coul
Chapter 10The Next MorningA soft knock came from the door, pulling her from sleep. Before she could answer, the door slowly opened. Khaled stood there with a small jar in his hand. Without permission, he walked to her bed, sitting on the edge, close enough that she could smell him, the scent of sandalwood. Her breath hitched not from fear but from something, a feeling she couldn't name. He sat too close…. It didn't make sense. He lifted her chin with two fingers, turning her face gently toward the light; his eyes dropped to her throat, tracing the bruises that marked her skin. They were fading now, the deep purple softening into greenish yellow. She wanted to pull away. Wanted to ask him not to touch her.But her body wouldn't move.He opened the jar he had come in with, which smelled like an herb she couldn’t remember, perhaps rosemary; she wasn’t sure. His fingers felt cool against her skin as he carefully applied it. She thought he was gentle for someone who could kill her witho
She moved away quickly, too afraid to look up. Her legs barely made four steps when he caught her arm, yanking her back to his shoulders.Mona lifted her gaze, meeting a familiar hostile stare, one from the shirtless guy who shamed her looks earlier. His eyes held no warmth, red and dark.“You.” His voice was dangerously low, peering into her eyes with a predatory expression. One that reminded her of the dogs that chased her once during an errand for Margaret .She gulped slowly, trying to pull away, but his grip tightened.“Don’t you ever walk out on me.”She glared at him.“I’m not yours to command.”His eyes dimmed; a flicker of annoyance flashed in his red eyes. She didn’t care whether he was a vampire or not.How dare he talk to her like that!He charged forward, moving faster than what she could track as seconds, and his hand was around her throat, pinning her to the wall. She could feel her feet leaving the ground.“You think that matters?”His face lowered to hers; Mona could
She was seated, her hands placed on the banquet table.A ragged breath came from her lips, uneasy, her eyes scanning for something strange. But none of that came. She was alone, seated on the banquet table. For a moment she was unsure how to feel; her hands hugged her shoulders.“Good day, Ma'am, your food is here,” a voice came from the side; she lifted her gaze to look.A beautiful, young-looking lady stood, holding a plate of food. Mona couldn’t help but admire the well-defined nose and sharp blue eyes the lady had.She looked like a teenager, perhaps someone of her age. But?Was she also a vampire? Was she being fed before she was killed? The thoughts disappeared when the lady dropped the plate in front of her.Laps of grilled turkey, spicy fried rice, and coleslaw smiled at her in welcome. The scent of food made her stomach growl, reminding her of the hunger she had forgotten to feel.Yes, hunger. She could recall the last time she had a meal, and that was before the arrival o
Her heart was now beating faster and faster in fear. This movement had just made her realize the big mistake she had just made. She sank her teeth into his back, but he didn't budge. Instead, his grip tightened.“Put me down, you… Put me down! Somebody, anybody, help…” she screamed, now raging in fe
Chapter Six: A Very Loud Heart A black vehicle stopped in front of the duo, and they both stepped in, although one of them reluctant. As the door closed, Monalisa felt like her freedom was being torn away from her. Wait. Why did she follow him in the first place? She should have just run away an
