ARIA'S POV

Two things woke me up from sleep. One was the cry of my children, and the other was Lucas' phone ringing and him shuffling out of bed urgently. He didn't even look back to see if he had woken me up.

I dragged myself out of bed and went into the nursery. My children were both awake and screaming their lungs out. Their nannies were still sleeping. From how hard everyone partied last night, I couldn't fault anyone else for sleeping in. Their screams turned into graceful coos when they saw me.

Zachary only followed his sister's cries. He was the first to smile at me. I fed them and bathed them myself. I was changing their diapers when their nannies walked into the nursery, clearly disoriented by their waking up late.

They stopped when they saw that I was already in the room doing their jobs.

"Luna Aria." Faye spoke first. "We're so sorry that we..."

"It's fine. I know we all partied till late last night."

"That doesn't excuse our neglect of the twins."

"That's quite okay, F

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-EIGHT

ARIA'S POV A month since the disappearances started, Brielle and I were hanging out in the pack house, watching my kids hang out with other children in the pack. Since they could speak more clearly now, I put an ear out for their babbles."What's going on with these vanishing packs? Cole won't tell me anything no matter how many times I threaten him with sex.""Or maybe there's nothing worthwhile going on?" I said dryly. She considered for a moment before she shook her head. "No, I'm certain there's something going on. There's something they've found out."Brielle was rarely wrong about anything, and I mean anything. She had the instincts of a police dog sent to sniff out rabid dogs. "Maybe...""Come on, there's no way you actually believe that, right?"I groaned. "I can't bear to think of the alternative. Do you know how scary it is to think about the fact that we could literally wake up one day and we will be gone? What's even scarier than that is the uncertainty. All those people

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-SEVEN

LUCAS' POV Aria got back to the pack late at night from her parents with even more worrying news. "I missed you and these little helions." I said and relieved her and the nanny of our children. She dismissed the nannies and told them she would handle it for the night. As she went through the motions of preparing them for bed, I trailed her with questions. Silently, though, so we wouldn't wake them."How did it go with your brother?" It was a miracle that none of them woke up from their sleep as we bathed them, brushed their teeth, combed their hair, and then laid them to bed."It went well. I thought for sure that they would need more convincing.""Your parents know when to stop pushing.""Well, my dad did give him a condition. They forbade him from telling him about our true nature until he's known for sure that they will last.""That's letting him off too lightly.""I know. I think we were all thinking the same thing.""That they won't last up to a year.""None of us told him that,

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-SIX

ARIA'S POV "Two vanishing acts? That can't be normal." Peter said, and we all agreed with him. "How did Alpha Lucas find out about this?" "It was at the twins' birthday party last night." "Oh, baby, we're so sorry your father and I couldn't make it last night. His hips were really acting up." "Way to make me feel like an old man." My father grumbled, and we all laughed. He would never agree that he was indeed growing old. "Anyway, Alpha Harry of White Moon was missing, and according to his associates, he would never miss a party unless it was really important. Anyway, they called him, and he didn't pick up. Alpha Dylan went over to his pack, and you know the rest." "That's disturbing." My father called back his informant to get more details about the vanishing, and it matched exactly what Lucas told me about White Moon. "I'm sure we will get to the bottom of this soon." I said, as a way to get everyone to stop worrying about it, even though I was really worried, too. "I have

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-FOUR

LUCAS' POV The party was going well. Aria was in her element. She seemed to glow with a light that was slowly hers. She worked the room, chatting up the women and giving the Alphas a courteous smile as she made sure that everyone was comfortable. She introduced people to each other, and she stopped to talk to some Lunas that she was more familiar with.I stood in a corner and watched her light up the room with her magic. Everyone smiled when she came near, and they didn't even know it. Her energy was infectious. I kept my eyes on her at all times, not even bothering to listen to the Alphas that surrounded me and their discussion. When she reached her twin brother, he whispered something to her, and her face lit up. I wondered what he told her. If he wasn't her twin brother, I would charge over there and demand that he tell me what he told my woman to make her light up that way. He pulled her outside, and I murmured a distracted excuse to the men around me. I squeeze through the crow

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-THREE

ARIA'S POVThree years later, life was as rosy and perfect as it could get. It was terribly obvious that my daughter preferred my twin brother, Augustine, to me. I did my hardest not to pout about it because he was exactly like me except in a bigger body and with shorter hair.We were preparing for the twins' fourth birthday, and I was trying to make sure that it was memorable. This was the first birthday party that we would be making a big deal out of."Lucas, are we sure this guest list is for the twins? We're looking at more than two hundred guests.""Well, baby, I've tried to keep it as simple as possible."Augustine watched our exchange with amusement. "Do you guys think you have more space?""Why?""I want to invite a couple of friends. I'm not sure if it's appropriate, though. I mean, it is a birthday party.""If it helps, there won't be any child in sight. The children will be in the garden with the twins with plenty of nannies to watch them while the adults use that opportuni
