THIRD PERSON'S POV

Alpha Lucas couldn't remember the last time he was this happy, and it was because of his little mate. He had become less snappy, and he now had a small smile for everyone in the pack. His pack was thriving, and times were peaceful. He began to think of his little mate as his good luck charm. She was the light in his world, and he thanked his stars every day that one man had been st*pid enough to let her go.

He spotted her now in the pack house compound as she threw her head back in laughter at something Brielle had said. Yesterday, after the intimate session they had after her shower, he had been craving her more and more. He lost count of how many times he had caught himself daydreaming about her. He wished that he didn't have so much work to do so he could drag her to bed and have her all to himself.

He observed the pretty column of her neck where her pulse fluttered. One of these days, she would finally be ready to be marked. He just had to bid his time.

I don’t like either of them. Frankly. They’re both weak characters.

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-THIRTEEN

ARIA'S POV "Red eyes? What are you kids talking about?" I smiled to hide how bothered and nervous I was.Zachary stood up from his bed, and I picked them both up to sit on my lap. My babies were getting bigger, and it wouldn't be long before they grew taller than me.Rosa spoke up first. "Mummy, when I slept, there was a man.""Did you see his face?" Zachary thought about it for a moment before he answered."No, Mummy.""No, Mummy." Rosa added. "It was really scary.""Yes, Mummy. I was scared." If they were scared, then I was terrified. My babies were having the same dreams that I was having, and that gave me serious concerns.Whatever was going on in my dream was serious, and I needed to find out what it could mean before it hurt my children. "Mummy?""Zachary, Rosa, there's no need to be scared.""Mummy, why?""Why are you seeing the red man?" Rosa giggled, and I tickled them to distract them from the question I had no answer to. "I'm going to reduce your screen time. You might ha

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-TWELVE

ARIA'S POV Of all the things that were happening to me recently, this was the last thing I thought would happen to me. Zoey showing up. "Zoey? You're the Zoey August is always going on about?" I smiled, and that made her relax a bit. "He talks about me?" "Only all the time." I came to my senses and realized that I was keeping her outside. "Pardon my manners, please come in." "Thank you." She followed me in, and I took her to the garden. There, we sat on a bench while we waited for a maid to bring us refreshments. "I would like you to meet my husband, if you don't mind. Then, we can get to why you're here." I know why she was here. She wanted to know where her boyfriend was and why he hadn't shown up to school for a while now. "Um, of course not." If anything, she looked grateful to get some time to pull herself together. She was nervous. I would be, too, if I were meeting my boyfriend's family without any prior notice. Lucas was in the middle of a meeting when I pulled him ou

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-ELEVEN

ARIA'S POV They were back. The voices in my dreams. This was not the first time, and I could only hope that this would be the last time. Like the first time it happened a few weeks ago, I woke up in the thick woods, but I knew I was in my bed. I was scared and cold, and they urged me to stand up. The first time it happened, I refused to stand up from the cold until Lucas shook me awake. The voices roared. The second week, the voices had faces. Red glowing eyes, urging me. What they wanted me to do was still unclear, but I knew I wanted no part of it. They called my name and chanted in some language I couldn't understand. Their voices were deep and grotesque. It was happening again tonight. This time, it was a single voice calling my name. He whispered it as if it were a secret. I could feel the voices coming nearer, and I drew away in fear, but I knew there was nothing I could do. I was trapped in this dream. "Get away." I found my voice, and it was suddenly bright. "Aria, wak

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-TEN

ARIA'S POV Three days later, August was still in a coma. Lucas said it wasn't so much of a coma as it was a deep sleep."Why is he not waking up then?""Because, like the doctor said, he needs to rest. He has suffered from a great shock, and he needs to recover from it. "Still no word from my parents?""Nothing." Lucas sent messengers over to my parents' pack, and I was greatly worried as to what they would find. It's been three whole days now, and there's still no word from them or the pack. It was just radio silence. "Aria, we're going to find your parents no matter where they may be.""What if they have also vanished like the rest?""No, baby, we can't allow ourselves to think that way.""You don't know that.""Your brother escaped. That's enough reason for me to believe that they were taken, not killed. Now, your brother is going to wake up any moment now, and he will tell us what's really going on, okay?"I allowed that piece of information to calm me down. Maybe they were real

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-NINE

LUCAS' POV It was only the threat of keeping her sedated that finally calmed Aria down. "I don't want to be kept out of the loop, Lucas, please. I want to know what's going on.""Then you have to promise me that you will stay in here until I get to the bottom of this. Promise me.""Fine, I will stay in here.""Good. I will send Brielle and the kids up to stay with you. Don't do anything reckless, Aria." I know how antsy she could get if she thought she or a loved one was being threatened. "I won't do anything.""Your brother is at the hospital. He's not dead, so you can take that off your mind.""Okay." She mumbled. "You trust that I'll take care of you and everyone else, right?""Yes, Lucas. I trust you." She whispered. "Give me a kiss, pretty girl." I know I should be down there with Cole to determine what was going on, but I couldn't leave her like this, knowing she was going to be making up fake scenarios that would only hurt her. She kissed me lightly, and I deepened it long

  • HER SECOND CHANCE MATE   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-EIGHT

ARIA'S POV A month since the disappearances started, Brielle and I were hanging out in the pack house, watching my kids hang out with other children in the pack. Since they could speak more clearly now, I put an ear out for their babbles."What's going on with these vanishing packs? Cole won't tell me anything no matter how many times I threaten him with sex.""Or maybe there's nothing worthwhile going on?" I said dryly. She considered for a moment before she shook her head. "No, I'm certain there's something going on. There's something they've found out."Brielle was rarely wrong about anything, and I mean anything. She had the instincts of a police dog sent to sniff out rabid dogs. "Maybe...""Come on, there's no way you actually believe that, right?"I groaned. "I can't bear to think of the alternative. Do you know how scary it is to think about the fact that we could literally wake up one day and we will be gone? What's even scarier than that is the uncertainty. All those people
