Chapter 02

“What have you done!”

“Amaia!” The old man cried, as he saw me, atop a man, I was stabbing him severely, pulling out and in again. On his chest.

He ran to me but stopped when he saw my eyes when I looked up to stare at him. He stood and didn’t say anything else.

But I heard him muttered.

“Curse!”

“Stop Amaia, He’s already dead.”

“But I’m not satisfied.” I half yelled. Still stabbing him.

“He came into my territory, I didn’t go out to him, not like I could leave the mansion anyway he came here. For me, he was gonna kill me.” I was yelling, and the more I yelled the more powerful I felt.

I couldn’t control myself, I kill mercilessly, some surge of power would run in me, each time I fought with a wolf. I was desperate to kill them. I don’t know why I felt that way, fighting with a wolf was my satisfaction. I told the old man, but he had refused to say anything to me, that he was gonna explain later when I turned eighteen, and I’ve been waiting like I’ve been waiting my whole life. Waiting for him to tell me why that was what I want to know. But all I got was silence.

I didn’t know why I was locked up here? He didn’t tell me either.

“C’mon Amaia, you’ve to let go of him, he’s dead.”

“Still not satisfied..” I said with a sigh. He took a step closer to me. I moved away from the wolf. I sat down on the ground. He let out a gasp when he saw the wolf. His eyes show signs of pain and regrets and then scared.

“You know him?”

Slowly he nodded.

“Who is he? Why did he come here?”

“He’s a Beta of the moonlight park.”

“A Beta, isn’t that close to the Alpha?”

Sadly, he nods.

I killed the Alpha Beta, What the heck! It sounds amazing!

But the old man looked more worried.

“This is bad, Amaia, this is so bad.”

“What’s so bad?” I smiled.

“It’s obvious, they sent they sent him here to kill me, but I kinda disappoint them.” I laughed.

“Amaia..”

I stopped laughing, he only called me in that tone when something bad was gonna happen and how serious he is.

“The Alpha sent him!”

“Then we can leave Novak! We can run away from here.”

“This is the safest place for you, you can’t go out to the world.”

“Why? Why can’t I leave here?”

“Because you’re different.”

“It’s because I’ve no wolf.”

“Yes, you have no wolf and you can’t go into the society of wolves. They will kill you, bad things would happen to you, you’ll regret not being a wolf. You’ll hate yourself. You’ll curse your parents for having you?”

“Was I supposed to die?”

“Amaia, listen to me, I know how you feel.”

“You don’t know how I feel!” I flared up, standing from the ground.

“How would you know, I woke up every day, stronger than before, I grow more in a way I don’t even understand, I can’t even understand myself. What I’m becoming, it’s frightening. See what I did to him.”

“You’re a threat to the wolf..” he blurts out, just in the same high tone I was yelling on.

“You’re a curse!” He shouted.

“And we need to leave here, they’re gonna come kill us and you can’t fight a whole army of a wolf, coming for us!”

I stood dumbstruck, he hurried into the cave, I stood still trying to comprehend what he meant, I was a curse, I was a curse!

I was a threat to the wolf.

I stare down at the wolf on the ground, he was sent to kill me and if he didn’t return, they would know I killed him and they would come to kill us.

The old man and I.

I was here because I was a curse, I had so many questions running in my head and I wanted an answer, I wanted to find out what this curse was all about, I wanted to know, I ran to the cave to see the old man packing our clothes into a bag. He stopped packing when he saw me coming.

“I’m sorry I yelled. I couldn’t control my emotions when I saw the Beta, it would have been bad if he killed you, you only did what you had to, we can’t keep hiding anyway. We need to leave Novak.” He held my shoulders and squeezed them.

“I know you’ve so much to ask but once we’ve got to a safe place and ain’t attacked by the wolf, I’ll tell you everything. Everything about your birth. So safe the questions for later.”

He moved away from him and resume packing our pieces of stuff into the bag.

“You can get your clothes. We’ll be leaving soon.”

I nod. But didn’t leave and watch him packing things in. He stopped when he noticed I was still watching him and went back to meet me again.

“You’re a special breed, Amaia, never forget that. And your wolf would come.

“I’m a curse, is that why I don’t a wolf?”

“It would come. It would come.”

“You keep saying that.”

“Because it’s true. Trust me.”

“I always do.” He pulled me into a hug. After he pulls away he kissed my forehead.

“You need to learn to control your powers.”

“You’re gonna teach me ain’t you.”

“I’ll.. but first, wait up..” he walked over to the place he kept our bags and took a book out of it. He handed it to me.

“Read it once we’re safe. I wrote some stuff down for you.”

I nodded and took the note, still shaking in fright.

“Don’t be scared, you could get cured.”

“How?”

“We’ll find out soon enough.”

“Why didn’t you tell me, that I was...” my eyes sting with tears.

“That’s why they abandoned me.”

He pulled me into a hug again.

“You’ll know everything so enough.” I cried on his shoulders. He pats my bad, drawing circles on it.

“It’s okay.”

It only made me cry harder...

Moments after, I was stuffing my long hoodies into my bag, while I stare at the dark clouds through the hole in the small space where I slept. I sniffed and continued stuffing in the stuff I would need.

What’s all this?

I don’t wanna cry anymore, now I was aware of the reason I was having this gut feeling of killing a wolf each time I see one. I was a threat to them. Because of the curse in me, my hands went to my neck, there was a mark in there, the old made me promise to always hide them.

It was something the wolf shouldn’t see, none of them should. My hands went back to the book he gave me and I tucked them into the bag, standing up my feet, I was prepared to leave the cave, but then I heard a sound, heavy feet. I was sensitive to sound, so I was able to know something was coming and it wasn’t just something ordinary, it was an army of the wolves.

They were here, so soon. Had they been waiting for a signal, they had been outside all this while. They all came together. To kill me especially, I had to protect the old man, I flung the bag over my shoulders. Running out of the room, I met him already prepared. He was staring at me. He saw my gaze and he became worried too.

“Let’s go..” I cried. Holding his hands.

“They’re here.”

“What?”

He looked surprised.

“Let’s go!” I yelled.

“The wolf is here already!” I screamed in his face. He nods and gripped my hands.

“C’mon Amaia!”

And together, with his hands gripping mine, we ran out of the cave, running out of our home, the place that was once our home.

Were we running to? We had no idea, we can’t be faster than the wolf, we can’t run faster than them, they would get to us, they would catch up with us, I was scared of the old man, though he could fight this wasn’t just a wolf but more than one. And they could kill him. I don’t want him dead yet, I wanted him alive, he was all I’ve got. And he needs to be alive for me, I’ve got a lot to ask, I a lot to know about me.

His grip on my hands tighten, as we ran, heading north of the forest. But it seems we were surrounded. I could hear the wolf running, I could hear them running to us.

“Faster old man!”

“You know I’m old, I can’t run faster and you know I’m not a wolf either.”

“Who the hell are you?” I yelled.

“I’m not gonna leave him behind.”

“Seems that’s what we’re gonna do, we need to split..”

“No, I’ll fight..”

“Amaia listens to me, You’ll go south, I’ll go west. Then we’ll meet at some cavalry.” He squeezed my hands. Trust me, I’ll be fine.”

“I’ll not agree to that.”

“Go, just go, that’s the best for us.”

“It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have killed him.”

“Stop it, it isn’t your fault it was made to happen. It has to happen. This isn’t your first kill. You’ve been killing the wolf, I’m sure the Alpha had been aware of it. He’s been planning to kill you.”

I sniffed.

“But..”

“No, but.. just go now!”

I held his hands, refusing to let go of them. Seeing I was hesitant. He places a hand over mine.

“You have to go..”

“We’re going together.”

“Now isn’t the time to be stubborn!” He half yelled.

“I can’t leave you behind.”

“You ain’t leaving me we’re gonna meet at sona, we’ll meet there, if we split, it would only make it easier for us to run faster.”

“You promise you’ll meet me up there.”

“I’ll promise.”

Sona was the mountain after Novak, it was the gate of the forest, a secret gateway that would lead us out of the mountains. It was a narrow path, why narrow? Because it’s dangerous. It’s a risk, it was said there’s a monster who dwells in there, and you could never go out after you get in, alive.

That’s where we were going. And from there, if we survived, we’re going someway, a park.

We’re gonna live like the rest of the pack members.

That’s all my thoughts...

I was gonna protect the old man, he was my parent, he saved me, feed me and trained me, more reasons I’ve to protect him.

I watched him run off running to the west, his feet were feeble, he was really old, could he be about a thousand or so, that’s my estimation, but he was old, I was sure of it.

I waited. Till I was sure he has gone far.

I waited for a while if I could see any of the wolves coming, there wasn’t anyone in sight. I waited.

Waiting for them, I wanted to see them and distract them, so they could come for me instead. I was waiting, and then I saw them. About three wolves. My hood was covering my face, I doubt if they could see my face. I stood for a while. And heard them growl.

“We’ve found the killer!” One of them yelled. He raised a signal to the sky. He was giving them a signal where she was.

I ran now, running as fast I could

“Leave the killer to me!” I turned to see who had spoken, he was tall and huge, tanned skin, blue eyes, his muscles were fully parked, he was sinfully handsome, his appearance was appealing, he had the perfect square jaw, was a warrior, was he a Beta or one of the Alpha’s son, the old man had told her, the alpha of moonlight park which was the closest to the Novak forest which was my home had four sons, he didn’t tell me their names, so I had no idea who was who, but I know the alpha of the park was Wren, he was still ruling currently. There wasn’t anything special about him except he spoke with authority, who was he?

I shouldn’t care, should I?

Our eyes met, he looked at me, my green eyes staring at him.

Then I ran!

He ran after me, faster than the rest and out of the corner of my eyes I watched him shift to his wolf form, he wasn’t just a small wolf, he was big, ten times bigger than any wolf she had seen. He ran with so much speed, I was having doubts if I could reach the sona before he attacks me, because he was running so fast. So fast.

I was scared now, scared that I got get hurt, scared that, I could hurt him, scared of what would happen. Running when he was just behind me. We were almost close to the sona, before I could take the next step, he pounced on me from behind, I fell with him on top of me. My back hitting the ground.

I let out a tight gasp.

I thought he was gonna attack that instant, he stopped and did nothing but watched me

I head-butted him. He back away from me, I stood up and ran, I didn’t want to fight him, so I ran!

He shifted back to his form, and he was naked, I looked away, running, I didn’t wanna see all that I’d already seen.

I must be silly, staring at the naked wolf, my cheek flush in embarrassment at the sight of it. So I ran faster than I did,

When I glance back I heard him being bickering. I shouldn’t care.

Running to the sona was my only option, I need to meet with the old man, that was my thought.

Then I saw him. He was running, he seems tired and stressed out, I heavies a sigh of relief, he made it. He did.

I was running to him but halted when I saw a wolf behind him.

“No!” I screamed.

The wolf was big, just right behind him.

“Watch out!”

I had to run faster so I could get to him. But it seems the faster I was running the slower it was, the wolf thrust his claws into the back of my father...

“Papa!” I yelled.

The claws went deeper, my feet automatically halt. My eyes popped out of their socket the first time. My fist tightens beside me. I was gonna kill the wolf.

I sprinted to them. Sniffing as I ran, he fell face down on the ground.

I pushed the wolf off him with force, he fell back, I pulled out my danger.

“Ready did a spar wolf?” I mocked.

He jerks up his feet. And poised, ready to attack me. And we fought. He flipped me over his shoulders, I fell but was quick to regain my balance, I was ready to strike again, my eyes were red now, and there’s no way I was gonna let the wolf live. We walked around in a circle, steadily, while catching our breath.

He growl and rushed to attack me, I ducked and cut his arm with my dagger. He groans and charges at me again.

I ran to him and didn’t wait for him to come to me. I hurl the dagger in his chest.

He fell, I jumped and stabbed his forehead with the dagger.

He came falling right in front of my feet.

I wasn’t satisfied when he died but I had to let go, I pulled out my dagger and ran to the old man.

He was puking out blood from his mouth.

“Amaia...”

“Shh. I’ll get you treated.”

He shook his head.

“I’ve fulfilled my destiny. This is my fate.”

“No, you told me we can create our destiny, you told me that it was my fate to die from birth but it didn’t happen because it was changed. We could change this too.”

“You can’t cheat nature.”

“Don’t say any more words. I’ll take you.”

He shook his head. He was stubborn but he keeps denying that, saying am the one who’s stubborn but he’s.

“Go now. Don’t let them get you, they won’t spare you, the moonlight rulers are wicked. Don’t...” he shut his eyes.

“Look for the seer. I lied that I was. I wasn’t.. look for him. He’ll help you, find the seer. Find Amaia.”

“Open your eyes. Please.”

“Go!” He whispered.

“Now.”

They were coming. I stood up with tears in my eyes.

“It isn’t your fault. It’s mine. I caused all this, Don’t blame yourself. You’ve got a great future ahead of you. And I know you’ll overcome quite well without me, you’re been a good student.” He touched my face, I ended up crying.

“Don’t waste it on an old man like me.”

“I’m sorry.” I cried.

“I’m so sorry.”

“You must survive.” That was the last word and I made I promise to him that I would be safe, and I had to be safe.

****It was part of the curse, who loves You’ll die, whoever you love will die, if the curse lives, it would be a danger to life itself.*****

*The seer*

Standing up, with the dagger in my hands. I wipe my tears away and ran towards the sona Calvary.

“No!” I heard someone scream. When I turned, I saw the handsome wolf from before who had let me go after he got me. And before I could blink, I was shot with an arrow!

It pierced into my right hand. I groaned.

And resume running into the sona.

“Don’t!”

I didn’t bother looking again.

I ran across the small waters that lead into the sona, running for my safety. Though it won’t be my safety completely, I could stay there because I had to survive, I had to be away from the wolf.

I had to be hidden.

Tears were still pouring down my cheek as I ran with the arrow still glued to my hand. I was crying so hard. My chest was burning, it felt like I was dying.

I was a step away from entering, I saw the wolf who had been chasing me all stopped. The handsome wolf looked pained. For his reasons which I don’t seem to care about. I had to go in, else the wolf would kill me and then I would die and everything would end.

No!

I don’t want that.

I entered the sona Calvary, the most dreadful forest. It was out of moonlight and Novak, it lead to an entirely different park.

I park I had no idea of but I was gonna find out, however.

When I got in. I sat down and cried, that was what I had to do, I cried for a long time, hugging my feet and crying. Crying, why I was like this, I felt miserable. I felt horrible and I don’t know how I was gonna get rid of this feeling that was hurting me deep down.

I didn’t want him dead.

Why did they have to kill him, it was me they wanted, why didn’t they spare him. They should I’ve killed me instead.

“You shouldn’t be here, cry princess.” I heard those words, I didn’t know if it was directed to me or someone else, I didn’t bother replying or doing anything like I heard what just happened.

“Cry, princess.”

I snap my head around, I saw no one. I had haven’t gone far into it, I was still close to leaving if I wanted to. I just needed some comfort.

“I need to stay here for a while. Some people are after me. I’m gonna leave once they’re gone.”

“You shouldn’t say that.”

“Who are you?”

“Heard of the witch?”

I sniffed, cleaning my face with my clothes.

“Witches?”

“Yes, princess.”

“I’m not a princess. I’m just a stupid child that shouldn’t have been born and when born was able to escape being killed.”

“Oh so you mean, you’re the cursed princess.”

“I said I’m...” I decide to let it slide, as far as they don’t kill me.

“You’re not gonna kill me are you?”

“Not me. Heard of Dracula?”

I jumped up.

“Vampires.”

I didn’t see who was talking, my hands clasped together. He told me about vampires, he told me they were scary, they are enemies of the wolf.

“Don’t search for me, you can’t find me, if you can pass the Dracula, you’ll be free and we’ll worship you.”

“I don’t want you to worship me. I just need a safe place.”

I heard a laugh. I clutched my fist beside me. I wasn’t gonna fight the vampires, I had to leave this place. Was the monster they had talked about the vampire.

She was never told.

“You can’t leave here, you go back there and the wolf kills, and you stay here and you fight. There’s a chance of you winning.”

“There’s a chance of winning the wolf too.”

I heard chuckles.

I ran back to the place I got in from but there was no way out. I ran back to where I was, it was all confusing.

I was trapped!
