Ariana’s POV.

The second Jaxon left the kitchen, I ran. My legs carried me down the hall faster than my mind could keep up and I didn’t stop until I reached my room.

I slammed the door shut and leaned against it, shaking so hard my knees buckled. My body slid down until I hit the floor, and the first sob tore free.

He could have killed me. He almost did.

I pressed trembling hands against my throat, feeling the soreness where his grip had been. If he had actually killed me, I'm sure even decomposition won't find my body.

I forced myself up and stumbled toward the dresser. My suitcase sat half-open at the foot of my bed. Clothes spilled out like I’d been living in chaos—which, I had. I shoved them in without folding, tears blurring my vision. I didn’t care what I packed. I just needed to leave.

I whispered to myself through my sobs, “You’re lucky, Ariana. Don’t waste it. He let you live. Don’t push your luck.”

As I yanked my charger from the wall, my phone vibrated in my hand. The su

  • HIS BOSS, MY DIRTY LITTLE SECRET.    A billion and a blow

Jaxon’s POVThe second I walked into the hall, the whole place shifted. I didn’t need to announce myself—my name did the work. Heads turned, voices hushed, and then like clockwork, they started closing in.“Mr. Devereaux, such an honor.”“You have no idea how long I’ve waited to meet you.”“You’re the reason tonight even matters.”Flattery. Empty, desperate flattery. These people wanted to be near me, to leech off my presence like it was currency. These fools think my gaze would somehow mint their worth— and it kinda does. I let them orbit me for a while, watching their fake smiles and greedy eyes. This was a situation I despised but this is a price you pay when you let someone like Tom Miller drag you to one of his parties.“When I heard that Tom managed to drag you to his party, I was shocked,” one said, raising his glass towards me. “You are the only reason I came here.”And I will be the only reason you never want to work with the Devereaux's if Tom screws up. Then Tom finally a

Ariana’s POV. “Rina?” I whispered into the phone, my voice breaking the silence that stretched too long.Nothing.My chest tightened. “Rina, are you still there? Please—say something.”Then, like a gunshot, her voice erupted through the line. “What the hell did you just say to me?”I winced, pulling the phone back slightly. “I—I told you. I slept with him.”“With Jaxon Devereaux?” she shouted. “Ariana, how the hell did you even meet him? People like him don’t just stroll into your life. They don’t walk into supermarkets or coffee shops. So explain it to me. How did you even cross paths with him, let alone—” her voice went sharper. “—end up in his bed?”I closed my eyes, trying not to raise my voice at her. We are not best of friends, in fact we stopped talking ever since we left high school, but I still expected better from her. I know people change but does she really think I have gone wide enough to sleep with anything that is within my reach. “Tell me,” she shouted again. “How t

Jaxon’s POV. A small smirk tugged at the corner of my lips as I saw that little weasel run to her room, banging her door shut like she was running from her worst nightmare. “I told you we should never meet again,” I muttered, folding my hands on my chest, leaning sideways on my door. “Now you will pay with your sanity.”After almost three minutes of staring at her door, I walked back inside my office, slamming the door shut. I had other things to do. I leaned back in my chair, pressing the phone to loudspeaker, my fingers drumming the polished wood of the desk. Tom Miller’s voice came through on the other end. “Mr. Devereaux,” he began, the same rehearsed enthusiasm I’d heard a hundred times. “What an honor. Truly, I can’t tell you how delighted I am that you took my call today.”He said he had an offer I wouldn't dare to refuse. That's the only reason I haven't sent this call to my secretary—- yet. “You’re always our most important guest, the centerpiece of every auction—thoug

Jaxon’s POV. Her body trembled under my hand, every shiver running through her frame like a silent plea. My grip tightened on the back of her neck, forcing her eyes to meet mine. I can't believe she came here even after I warned her not to. She must really be seeking death or her contractor gave her too much money —- enough to make her trade her life for an impossible mission. God, my competitor never learn. They keep sending women like I owned a brothel. I think it's high time I put a stop to it. It's just unfortunately that the scape goat is my best employee's daughter, that would mean he would go for at least two weeks grieving break. Employees break are not really my thing but I'm sure it's going to be worth it for Kelvin.“Who sent you?” I asked, my voice low and deliberate. Each word was a blade. “Who are you working for?”Tears welled fast in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks. “I—I don’t know it was you. I swear. I didn’t know.” Her voice cracked. “It was coincidence.”I na

  • HIS BOSS, MY DIRTY LITTLE SECRET.    Thirty seconds.

Ariana’s POVMy legs felt like they belonged to someone else as I forced myself down the winding staircase. My heart pounded so loudly I was sure the butler—waiting for me at the bottom—could hear it.“Great, we don't want to piss Mr Devereaux this early,” he said, calm and composed as ever. Meanwhile, I was practically vibrating like a leaf in a hurricane. He folded his hands behind his back and began in that careful, professional tone of his. “Mr. Devereaux maintains certain…preferences. He takes his coffee black, no sugar, no cream. He favors simple breakfasts. Eggs, lightly scrambled. Toast, not burnt, not soggy. Pancakes are acceptable, but never too sweet. He doesn’t tolerate excess butter. He dislikes greasy meals, anything fried in too much oil, and he never touches cereal or pastries.”He continued, listing details as though he were reciting commandments etched in stone. But I couldn’t absorb a single word. His voice blurred, drowned out by the thudding in my ears. My thought
