Chapter Nineteen

Mikaela:

“So, what do you think about the gown?” Kevin smirked, standing right behind me with his hands on my shoulders.

I was seated on a chair, facing the dressing mirror. I looked at him through the mirror. “It is beautiful. And the blue is really stunning, I can't lie.”

“I’m glad you loved it. That was a hundred dollars.”

“What?!” I exclaimed. “That sundress? Boy, I know there are other cheap sundresses out there that have more detailing and better design.”

Call me stingy or anything. I wouldn't buy anything that's sold cheap elsewhere for a higher price. It didn't matter if I was wealthy or famous or anything. Nobody cares, and they're not paying my bills.

Unless they are, then I should care about what they'd think seeing me wear a cheap outfit.

It's my money. My body. And I would decide what I was going to wear and put on it.

“Come on. You look better in expensive things.” He teased.

I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

My phone pinged on the dresser and I reached for it

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Twenty-Four

Chapter Twenty-FourMikaela:I need not be told before realizing the truth that the kids loved Ethan. The last part of it was bitter but still the truth: they loved him more than Kevin. My eyes darted to Ethan but he didn't move even though he was looking right at me.I looked over to Kevin, and then at Ethan again, then the teddy before bending over to carry Samantha in my arms while holding Natasha’s wrist.“Let's go, kids!”And that was it. That was the last time I set my eyes on Ethan until during an art event where I(Aela Muse{my pseudonym}) was highlighted.I didn't expect to see Ethan there but it was until I was called on stage that I noticed him at the front seat. The stage was set and five of my greatest paintings were positioned behind me on the stage.I was meant to tell everyone how I painted them. What I felt while painting them. What each of them meant. And my journey so far as a painter. “Good day everyone. I'm Aela Muse as you all know, while some of you might recogn

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Twenty-Three

Chapter Twenty-ThreeEthan:It's been a week since Ava's death, and I knew I had to do something else with my life aside just work, work and work.Since Mikaela refused to hand over the kids, then I would meet them myself.I did a lot of research and discovered where they schooled. I waited until school was over before entering the place.I didn't know where exactly the kids would be but all I knew was their names. Samantha, and Natasha.Such sweet names for my daughters.I entered the main building and a lady in a white shirt and black skirt approached me, scanning me from head to toe.“Good day, sir.” She greeted, stretching out her hand for a handshake.“Good day, ma'am.” I forced a smile, shaking her.“Welcome to Bright Stars Academy. It's the first time I'm seeing you here.” She adjusted her glasses, pressing it onto her face even more, as if my face was way too small to be seen without those glasses.“I understand. This is my first time and I came to see Natasha and Samantha. Th

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Twenty-Two

Chapter Twenty-TwoEthan:BUTLER CHARLES.Why was he calling me at this hour when he clearly knew I was at work? I wanted to reject the call but there was a part of me consumed by rage that wanted to make it clear again that calling me by this time was disrespectful after I already informed him.“How many times have I told you to never call me during working hours? Did you not get the message?!” I raised my voice.I didn't know where this rage came from but my blood boiled for no reason in particular.I knew I shouldn't be this mad at him for simply forgetting the rules, or maybe he has something urgent to tell me.Either way, I wanted to hear his excuse.“Ava is dead!” He informed me, his voice breaking with fear.“What?!” I screamed, my eyes widening.“Someone stabbed her in the bathroom.”.I felt a sharp strain in my chest, as if I could break down any moment soon but I forced myself to remain strong.“Are you sure?! I’ll be there in a bit.” I tucked the phone between my ear and my

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Twenty-One

Chapter Twenty-OneMikaela:“Oh. How many balls have you got again? I would destroy them one by one.” I declared, picking the invisible dirt under my nails as I relaxed more, pressing my back on the chair.“Why are you doing this?” He managed to blurt a complete sentence, though his tone was a little shaky.“Take down the case or I'll take you down.” I commanded.“But it wasn't in the contract that you could break the deal. You're to supply art when it's needed.”“We signed a non-exclusive contract which does not stop me from working with another conglomerate. Anyway, it seems you still have the balls to argue, then l-”He cut me off, “Fine. I'll take it down. Just find something to do about this. Everyone is disappointed and raising questions. Make D’arts give E.T arts some credit at least to make them regain trust. Make it seem like a secret collaboration to surprise them, and let them know the only reason we canceled the exhibition at E.T arts and brought it to D’arts is because th

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Twenty

Chapter TwentyMikaela:I laughed. What a clown!Which woman in her right senses would want to go back and marry a man like him after everything.I didn't have an option though but taking this way out was not an option either.“I never knew you could be more ridiculous. Anyway, it doesn't seem like you're ready so I'd just do it the hard way then since you're refusing.” I sighed.Meanwhile, deep down, an argument was going on in my head.I didn't have a plan B. I didn't have the hard way. I just didn't want to show weakness. That's one thing I learned over the years.Never show weakness to the enemy. Showing you're strong can bring them fear and weakness. But showing you're weak will bring them strength and confidence. And even if I was going to show I was scared, it wouldn't be to Ethan.“Here's your drink.” The bartender announced, placing the drink in front of me, on top of the island.I was still going to stick with my words. I didn't want his drink.“Shall we discuss my upcoming

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Eighteen

Chapter EighteenEthan:It's been hours after the meeting but still, I couldn't get Mikaela off my mind. I had other meetings but I cancelled them all because ‘I was busy’ when clearly, I wasn't. I just knew I wouldn't focus even if I attended the meetings. Mikaela has changed. She was
stunning. She was sparkling. A sparkle I wanted to get hold of but her sparkle came with ruthlessness. The way she looked at me. It was different. The venom in her eyes. The poison in her voice.I felt it in my spine. Her gaze sent the hair at the back of my neck standing. And that smirk on her face that masked diabolical intentions.I couldn't help but wonder if there was at least a tiny piece of her that still wanted me back. If that was my Mikaela or someone else. If she still cared. She's got me thinking. And I was at the edge, about to lose my fucking mind.No matter how much I tried to shake off the thoughts, they would crawl back, as if I had been hypnotized or maybe cursed.I stared at the fi

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Seventeen

Chapter SeventeenMikaela:My eyes widened and I knew. I knew there was venom in them.Call me the villain but I'd rather be cruel than to lower my head to cruelty.I raised my hand, slamming it on her face. Sharp. Hard. With all the strength I had in me that morning. She fell to the ground, coughing, and I remained there, watching her suffer, watching her break, watching her regret. So this was how she felt when she hit me. This feeling. I couldn't describe it but it was overwhelming. I didn't know if it was satisfaction or superiority.I turned swiftly, not because I was mad. Not because I was satisfied. But because I was going for him next. The man who gave me sleepless nights and made me regret loving him. The man who accused me of killing his mother. The man who would hurt me, broke me, shattered me, destroyed me, with a smug smile on his face.He enjoyed it, didn't he?We'd see who would get the last laugh.I stormed into the building, heading straight to the elevator. I didn't

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Chapter Sixteen

Chapter sixteen–FIVE YEARS LATER–Mikaela:I adjusted my glasses, my gaze fixed on the computer.“Ah, my eyes are tired. I didn't get enough rest last night. It's going to be a long day. Adeline, what's the schedule for today?” I asked, glancing at my personal assistant who was standing nearby. She quickly opened her schedule book, tracing it with her fingers. “A meeting at E.T Arts.”“What's the meeting about again?”“They've been outshined by D’arts and they're trying to get back so they wish to sign a contract with us where they get the most unique arts to capture bidders’ interest.” She nodded firmly while speaking.I massaged my forehead. “Wait, go back. D’arts?” I wanted to be sure if it was the D’arts I knew which was Kevin’s art conglomerate. Kevin and I had been in a contract for five years and I had learned how to paint. My paintings were not the only thing making his conglomerate flourish. The fact that I was the CEO of White Fine Arts and I supplied him with the best, ex
