Chapter Seventeen
Mikaela: My eyes widened and I knew. I knew there was venom in them. Call me the villain but I'd rather be cruel than to lower my head to cruelty. I raised my hand, slamming it on her face. Sharp. Hard. With all the strength I had in me that morning. She fell to the ground, coughing, and I remained there, watching her suffer, watching her break, watching her regret. So this was how she felt when she hit me. This feeling. I couldn't describe it but it was overwhelming. I didn't know if it was satisfaction or superiority. I turned swiftly, not because I was mad. Not because I was satisfied. But because I was going for him next. The man who gave me sleepless nights and made me regret loving him. The man who accused me of killing his mother. The man who would hurt me, broke me, shattered me, destroyed me, with a smug smile on his face. He enjoyed it, didn't he? We'd see who would get the last laugh. I stormed into the building, heading straight to the elevator. I didn't need anyone to tell me before I remembered where his office was. I remembered every damn thing like it happened yesterday. Without knocking, I slammed the door open. Without a smile, I entered. There he was. My husband, no, ex-husband sitting behind his desk. He raised his gaze, smiling. “Oh, you're here. Please have your seat.” He offered. Of course. I will. Even before you invite me. I pulled out my chair and sat across from him. He set aside his laptop. “I'm glad you came. I thought you were not coming.” He still kept his warm smile. “Why are you smiling?” I blurted casually. “Because of the meeting of course. It's such a pleasure meeting you again after the incident at the hospital years ago, Mikaela” He stretched out his hand for a handshake. I took the handshake, forcing a smile. “It's such a pleasure meeting you, Ex-husband!” His hand went stiff and silence reigned. Heavy silence. I heard a ball of saliva stumble down his throat. “You- you remember?” His smile melted, his eyes widening. “Thanks to your wife.” I pushed my hair to the back of my ears, showing him my face that probably already had finger imprints on them. “How?” His voice broke and he stared at me in disbelief. “Don't be shocked.” I crossed my legs. "You've changed, Mikaela" He whispered, his eyes pinned on my face. "I know. I know you never thought you would find yourself pleading to sign a contract with me. The same wife you never wanted," I nodded. "I loved you, but-" The rest of his sentence remained stuck in his throat. "I didn't make it this far to believe in your lies. I came this far to make you beg. To make you lie. Just to have me back" A devilish smirk curled at the corner of my lips as I raised my eyebrows like the Queen of the room. "Everything you possess today is rightfully mine. Only if I hadn't trusted you and given them to you." "You're not the same woman I married." He shook his head. "Exactly. That woman gave you everything. This woman is taking everything back. You were nothing before me, and now you're nothing without my signature!" "You're not taking everything back, you're destroying what's left" "What's left? Your pride? Your dignity? Your name? I'm destroying everything, including you, Ethan. We should draw the battle line, shall we?” I stretched my hand for another handshake. “I-” “You even tried taking advantage of my memory loss. Did you think I was stupid? Maybe I was, but not anymore.” Of course, just as I expected, he didn't have a comeback. “Let's begin the meeting, shall we? I'll give you the signature, that's what I came here for. But I'm going to show you I'm powerful enough to defeat you despite having my signature. No matter what position or whose signature you have, I'd still trample on you. You are nothing to me” He broke eye contact, his shaky hands travelling to the left side of the desk to pull out one of the files. He slid it to my side of the table, his fingers trembling. “Don't be scared. I don't bite. At least not yet.” I scoffed, pulling the file towards myself and flipping it open to go through the terms. I nodded at the content in the file even though I could feel his eyes roaming me. As soon as I raised my head, his eyes darted away. “This seems okay so far but I can't go through all the pages now. I'll be taking this with me and will let you know if I'm okay with the terms. If I am, I'll sign it and send it back to your company.” I nodded, closing the file. “I guess I should take my leave now, or is there anything else you'd like to discuss?” “Mikaela,” He called, but I already knew where this was going to and I wasn't going to take that. At least, not now. I was already having a bad day, he shouldn't make it even worse. “No, Ethan. We can't talk about that now. I have other things to do.” I raised my body, about to leave. “I understand but can you just give me some time. I swear it won't take that long.” He stretched his hand across the desk, grabbing my arm. “Just listen to me at least.” My neck tilted down to look at his hand in disgust. Without having to say a word, he got the message and quickly took his hands off me. I pointed my index at his face. “Next time, keep you filthy hands and don't even think about touching me.” After shooting him a death stare and making sure he felt it in his bones, I took my leave without turning back for another glance.Chapter OneMikaela:“Mikaela Abrams Selene, this is not a smart move to make. I'm not letting you give the family's art conglomerate to Ethan! Because you're the heir doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. If you go ahead, then I'm cutting you off!”“Oh really, Mom? Really? You're cutting me off because I'm deciding to give the company to Ethan? Because I'm deciding to love him? Does that sound smart to you?” I scoffed, turning away as I approached the stairs.“He will shatter you. You're too young for that, I don't want you to taste the bitterness I struggled with as a young adult. You're just nineteen!”I halted, my body going stiff.“Well, I heard that a million times already, but he hasn't broken my heart, has he? And We've been together for five months. Your words are invalid. Try again.""Your Father already had a deal with the Davidsons before he passed away, you are to marry Mr Davidson's son, Kevin. What has Ethan done to show that he loves?”I let out a sigh, my shoulde
Chapter TwoMikaela:“Ethan.” was all I managed to say. What followed was silence. Heavy silence. One that weighed down my shoulders. And all I could hear was my own heart thumping in my chest. His jaw tightening and his hot glare pinned me in place, slicing through me. There was something his gaze held. Something heavier than rage– hatred. “You were the last person with her. And now, she is…” He choked on his next word as if he was avoiding it. He raised his body, and I stepped closer. “Don't.” He spat, his voice barely above a whisper, but I could tell he was restraining himself from doing something reckless. His shoulders were rising and falling rapidly as his apple bobbed up and down. His eyes tore from mine. Then, he dipped his hand into his pocket, and fetched his phone out.“Ethan.” I mumbled, my lips trembling. I blinked rapidly, trying to hold my tears from falling, but with each blink, the burn of the hot tears intensified. He brought the phone to his ear. “Danny, we hav
Chapter threeMysterious Savior:“Here's your drink, Mr. Davidson.” The housekeeper said as she handed a glass of juice to me.I hummed, gesturing for her to leave the room. She turned and exited the room. I remained at the edge of the bed, swirling the glass in my hand gently before bringing it to my lips to take a small sip.Letting out a sigh, I pulled my phone out of my pocket. As I scrolled through social media, my eyes scanned through alarming news.‘Mr. Vinny’s Wife, Mikaela Abrams/Mikaela Vinny, has been locked up due to accusations of the murder of Mr. Vinny's Mother'My eyes widened. Mikaela Abrams? There was only one Mikaela Abrams I knew, and it was the one who fell in love with Ethan Vinny. The only Ethan Vinny I knew was the man who stole Mikaela Abrams from me.The dots were connecting. It's been four years since I had set my eyes on Mikaela, the one and only lady I have fallen in love with for such a long time. There was a difference between infatuation, lust and love
Chapter fourKevin:The man turned, his eyes pinned on mine and we both remained stiff like that for some seconds until a ringtone snapped the tension. He pulled out a phone from his pocket.“Yes, sir.” He communicated with the person on the other end of the call. “Oh. Alright sir.”He ended the call, letting out a sigh.“The OIC said you're here to bail her out.” He began. The evidence of fear was written all over his face and I could tell he had realized his mistake.“He says you're his good friend.” He added.I stepped further into the cell, closing the distance between us. Just when we were an inch apart, I nodded gently, pointing at his face.“Just as promised, I'll make you lose your job, you fucking bastard.”“I'm…sorry.” He whispered, and I could tell the consequences were already dawning on him.I smirked. “Sorry? You're saying that not to lose your job, aren't you? You were just here enjoying every bit of this a few minutes ago.”“Li-”“Call the ambulance.”He pulled out h
Chapter fiveMikaela:My eyes wavered open, the brightness of my surroundings casting radiant light into my iris. I blinked rapidly, still trying to recognize the setting. The place looked unfamiliar but there I was, lying there, a little too comfortable than I should be.I tried raising my hands but they felt heavy. Too heavy. In dread, a ball of saliva traveled down my dry throat.“Are you okay?” I heard a soothing masculine voice bounce against the walls of the room.My neck slowly tilted to the left, my eyes squeezing shut from the discomfort I felt. I assessed the silhouette of the man approaching me from the other end of the room. He raised a brow even though it was evident that he was trying to hide something on his face. Something similar to longing, pain or worse.Thin strands of his ruffled black hair fell slightly over his forehead, looming over his deep emerald green eyes that radiated subtly as if they were assuring me that this man was loyal and trustworthy. The corner
Chapter sixMikaela:“Take your hands off my woman!” A sharp masculine voice cut through the heat in the air.THOSE WORDS.THAT VOICE.They rang a bell in my head, but I could almost swear I've never heard or seen this man in my life before but my brain refused to believe it.Jet black hair. Thin lips. Blue eyes. Tall and fine. Nice chiseled jaw that matches the chill of his blue eyes. His gaze was pure fire and nothing could compare.I felt Ethan's hands pull away from mine, and my neck snapped at him. His face was as hard as a rock as he stared at the other man who was storming towards us.“What are you doing here, you bastard?!” The man spat, finally halting when he was a few inches away from us. I could see anger boiling in her eyes.“What am I doing here? I should be asking you that!” Ethan retorted. “Isn't it the daddy's boy who was rejected by her multiple times. She chose me as her husband, not you.”“And that was a fucking mistake she made. You do not deserve her.”“She love
Chapter SevenEthan:“I can't lose my chance.” My fingers quivered as they dug into my hair, ruffling the strands.I turned, resting my forehead against the cold wall.I heard the door double clicking and I didn't need to guess before knowing it was Kevin.I raised my head, glancing at him. With his hand still grasping the knob, he shot me a nasty look.“You already had her, then you left. That says everything, doesn't it?” He challenged. My lips parted, before I realized I didn't have a comeback. I had messed up big time, and I didn't have an excuse for that.“You let her get tortured. You had assumed she killed your mother, and now you're here claiming to be a loving husband? What changed? Who changed your mind?”In a flash, his hand lunged forward, clutching my collars, almost as if he wanted to rip it off my shirt. His knuckles grinded hard on my chest. “You think this is just about love? Keep pushing, and I’ll show you what war feels like.”—FLASHBACK—The phone buzzed, sending s
Chapter EightMikaela:“Are you okay?” The voice of the other man, Kevin, broke into my thoughts.I hadn't realized when he came in.I flinched, sliding the file back under the bed quickly.“What's that?” He asked.I shook my head. “Nothing. Why are you here?” I shifted a little, cautious of every muscle he moved.“Do you not trust me?” He stepped closer, his legs pressing on the edge of the bed.I gulped, my mind running like a headless chicken as my eyes ran over him.As if he noticed my fear, he stepped back, smirking. “It's not in my plan to traumatize you or make you fear. I'm just asking, do you trust me?”“Why should I?” I shook my head.Nodding, he blurted, “That's what I thought. But if there's anyone you should trust the least, that should be Ethan.”“My…husband?” I stuttered, unsure if that's what to call him or not.He scoffed. “He doesn't deserve that title. He deserves to be your ex. The only mistake you made was passing out before being able to sign the divorce papers h

Chapter sixteen–FIVE YEARS LATER–Mikaela:I adjusted my glasses, my gaze fixed on the computer.“Ah, my eyes are tired. I didn't get enough rest last night. It's going to be a long day. Adeline, what's the schedule for today?” I asked, glancing at my personal assistant who was standing nearby. She quickly opened her schedule book, tracing it with her fingers. “A meeting at E.T Arts.”“What's the meeting about again?”“They've been outshined by D’arts and they're trying to get back so they wish to sign a contract with us where they get the most unique arts to capture bidders’ interest.” She nodded firmly while speaking.I massaged my forehead. “Wait, go back. D’arts?” I wanted to be sure if it was the D’arts I knew which was Kevin’s art conglomerate. Kevin and I had been in a contract for five years and I had learned how to paint. My paintings were not the only thing making his conglomerate flourish. The fact that I was the CEO of White Fine Arts and I supplied him with the best, ex
Chapter fifteenMikaela:“What?” I whispered in shock.“Yes. That's how your mother died. Your mother's sister, Mirabel managed to escape with major injuries, although she passed away after a few weeks since she wasn't recovering from the injuries and she was more than traumatized.” The old lady said, placing a hand on my shoulder. “That's how we lost both females of the White family. You were the only female left but at that moment, we didn't consider anything else but to put you up for adoption and that was it.”“Who adopted me?” I raised a brow.“The Abrams family of course. Don't you remember?”Kevin chipped in. “She lost her memory actually.”She nodded. “I see.”She remained quiet for a moment.“The white family might be a bit complex, but here is how it works. In the White extended family, we have five nuclear family. One runs a clothing brand business. One is a family of lawyers. One is a family of doctors. One runs a valuable mining company. While your family runs an art supp

She looked so cute and adorable, and if I could hold her like this forever, I would. But then I had my own family, my own home, and it was late. I needed to take her back to her mother, and leave for my house.I glanced at the clock on the wall.It wa
Chapter ThirteenMikaela: What? What the fuck?Bastard!“I want her to come with me.” He added, clarifying his words“You want her to come with you?” Kevin asked, probably confused as I am or more than.“Yes. There's something I need to talk to her about, and we can't discuss it here. You need to come with me.” He responded, his voice reverberating in the mansion. Was he even listening to himself?I took a small step back before regretting it. I shouldn't have shown him I was scared.“Come on, don't be scared.” He gestured for me to come.He even recognized fear in ladies. He must be a fucking pervert from the poisonous look in his eyes as if he has just hit a jackpot finding me.I took my eyes off him for a split second, looking at Kevin's face for something. A reaction. A nod. A brow raise. Something. Just anything!!Kevin gave me a slight nod, and his eyes asked me to trust him.I took in a sharp breath, moving closer to them slowly.Step by step. Each fiber of me wanted to flee b
Chapter TwelveMikaela:I sat at the edge of the bed, looking at my face in the mirror that stood across the room.Just as I was about to lay back down, I heard a knock on the door.“Kevin?” I called.“Yeah, it's me.” “Sure. You can come in!” I invited and waited for him to enter but he didn't. “Is there anything wrong?” Worry etched on my face.“No actually. I actually wanted to show you something. Can you come?”“Alright. Just a sec.” I got up immediately, my toes curling at the cold temperature of the floors.I headed towards the door and swung the door open. His face lit up immediately when he saw me. I stepped outside, shutting the door behind me.“I hope you enjoyed dinner?” He asked, his eyes as huge as saucers.Honestly, he wasn't the best cook, but it was okay. I didn't want to be a killjoy. At least he put in some effort to impress me and that alone was enough.I grinned. “Come on, it was great!”He let out a sigh, scratching the back of his neck— an habit I noticed.“Come
Chapter ElevenMikaela:It's been over a month now, and yes, it has been a difficult journey to recovery. I thought I had recovered but at some point of my recovery, my energy sucked itself out of me and I was back to scratch, fighting for my life.I couldn't be more glad that I could now move around by myself. Even at that, the doctor recommended lots of sleep and rest and barely any work.It was understandable that he was only trying to do his job, but I wouldn't appreciate him as much as I would appreciate Kevin. He was always there to tell me he'll always be there. He was always there to whisper reassuring words to me when I needed them the most. Always there to make sure I felt more than safe. He would stay up all night to ensure I slept well.He was not just a friend. He was more than a supporter in fact. I couldn't thank him enough and if there was anything I could do to repay his kindness, I would definitely do it. I would trade anything in fact, even my own freedom to ensure
Chapter Ten Kevin:“Sit her up to ease breathing and guide her!” I knew it was the doctor and nurse coming so I pulled back and quickly went to hold the other nurse who was struggling to get back on her feet and escape.“Alright, doc.” The other nurse responded as she rushed to the bed.Harshly, I grabbed the lady's hair and pulled her up while the nurse gently helped Mikaela sit upright to make her breathing stable.“You bitch! Who do you think you are?” I spat, my grip tightening even more on her hair. She winced, wrinkles gathering at the corner of her eyes. “Trust me, you'll lose your job, your certificate and everything that makes you a nurse.”“I sincerely apologize.” The doctor's voice interrupted.I tilted my head, shooting him a death stare as he stepped closer.“Apologize? What would have happened if I wasn't here earlier? She would have murdered her. A nurse stabbing a patient who just got out of coma, what do you think that would do on the name of your hospital?”“I apolo
Chapter NineMikaela:Just as I was about to utter the next word, the nurse interrupted.“It seems you need some time to think about it more. You should eat. Please sit upright. The doctor would detach some of these machines from you today or tomorrow so you need some strength to function independently.”I gulped, shaking my head as I pushed myself to sit up. “I'd rather he gets me fast food.”My eyes darted to Kevin, and he smiled, the corners of his lips spreading.“Fries?” He asked.I nodded. The nurse stared at us in disbelief, her face pale. “But you have to eat now.”“I can wait.” I grinned. “Thank you.”.Her brows relaxed in defeat as she mouthed inaudible words.Kevin stepped closer, placing a hand on my head. My muscles went stiff timidly at the feel of his touch.“You'll be fine.” He mumbled before leaning in to press a kiss on my head.Oh, someone fuck his cologne in the face. His fingertips scratched my scalp gently before he pulled away and turned.I watched him exit and
