Chapter Six

Maryanne:

The pain came in waves all over my body. Sharp. Unforgiving, and impossible to ignore.

I gripped the bedrail, knuckles white, breath catching somewhere between a scream and a sob.

Time felt warped, like I was suspended in a world made only of blinding light, walls, and the relentless pressure tearing through me.

I wasn’t ready.

God, I wasn’t ready.

But my body had decided otherwise. It was now nine whole months. It was inevitable.

And in that moment, as another contraction twisted through me like fire, the only thing I could do was hold on and pray I’d come out of this still myself.

This hadn't been an easy journey, and what struck me even more than the pain did was my hopes, my fears, my past, my future.

This was it. I knew this was just it for me. After having this baby, I would be kicked out and neither my sister nor my boyfriend, no, I mean my sister's boyfriend would want anything to do with me again.

Remember, I was nothing but a surrogate mother.

Chapter ThirteenMaryanne:“You're three weeks pregnant!” My heart skipped. Not because of the news but because it rang a bell. A loud bell. One that reminded me of some years ago. Those were the same words that the doctor said to me.The same words that made me realize my purpose. The words that made me a mother and a surrogate mother. The words that made the betrayal cut deeper. My throat ran dry and I gulped, but it still went dry again, as if I just swallowed a handful of sand.I stretched both my hands across the desk, my fingers shivering as I took the result paper from the doctor reluctantly. The same way I took it from that doctor some years ago. That same day when my life changed. She beamed at me, her slips spreading ear to ear. I stole a glance at the paper and quickly looked back at her, as if avoiding looking at the paper. As if scared to see the same results again. The doctor noticed my pale face and her smile melted away. “Are you okay?” She asked, raising a brow as she

Chapter TwelveMaryanne:From that day on, I became good friends with Gabby. Just friends. He gave me accommodation while I tried helping him stop his addiction. Slowly, he stopped drinking and smoking but I still let him do it once in a while. I just had to. I knew it wasn't an easy journey so he needed it sometimes until he wouldn't need it anymore. After some months, I got a job and insisted we move to a new apartment where his friend, Isaac would never be able to locate us.But was that my main plan? No. I didn't care about Isaac. My main plan was to move near the part of the city where Gary and my Sister lived and get my revenge as soon as possible. Not so soon but at least, after some years, just after they forget I exist. After they assume they're living their little happily ever after, I would strike like a thief in the middle of the night.Gabby didn't know anything about my past. I just lied to him and mentioned I was a stripper at a strip club and I was drugged and taken t

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Lust At First Sight: Eleven

Chapter ElevenMaryanne:“How about them?” I pointed at the other ladies. Even though it seemed like they were in a better condition than me. I couldn't just bring myself to think I would just leave them there, just like that without helping them out.I could pass out at any moment and my eyes were starting to close but I fought to keep them open. To keep my legs firm. But I was constantly failing as I watched the man undo the chains of the other ladies.I stumbled and grabbed my pole quickly for support. At this point, he was on the third lady and there were four more to undo.I shut my eyes, taking in a deep breath and letting out a heavy sigh to calm my nerves as my legs shook, blood still running down. The pressure increased and I dropped to my knees, closing my eyes to withstand the pain but it punched even more. What hit me the most wasn't the pain. It was the fact that I didn't know where or what was hurting. My hands kept fumbling around, not knowing where to hold, grab or mas

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Lust At First Sight: Ten

Chapter TenGabby:Without waiting for us to say anything else, Andrew walked out of the living room. I sat there, staring at the closed door while Isaac ranted beside me.Of course, he was the youngest. He was far from mature. It was natural, and when he got older, he would understand that pain shouldn't lead to yapping.Pain should keep one quiet. That way, it could sink in better and deliver its message then slip out. But he wasn't letting it deliver its message, therefore he didn't learn anything from this issue, and everything Andrew said was a waste to him.But who was I to judge him? I was once like that. This pain. It cut deep, deeper than I expected, and just when I was waiting for the pain to slip out, it didn't. It got stuck, and Andrew's voice got stuck in my head, telling me to quit. To stop. To focus on life because I would end up like him. With regret. With pain. Without a healthy family. Without a life. Without a proper job. With no joy. With nothing but organ failure.

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Lust At First Sight: Nine

Chapter NineGabby:I placed the bottle on the floor beside me, my throat expanding as I burped out. My breath let out a thick alcohol smell.I smiled, looking at the small bread in my other hand before taking a huge bite from it.“I'm rich!” I exclaimed between mouthfuls of bread.I still couldn't believe I won the bet earlier this morning. Even though I put a lot at stake, I got over double back and I didn't regret it.Everyone at the bar knew I was unlucky when it comes to betting but today was my lucky day I guess. The door slammed open. I didn't have to look up before guessing it was my friends, Isaac and Andrew.“You never invited us, huh?” Isaac mocked.I laughed, waving off his words. “Come on. I just had to enjoy my money alone. Grab a glass, I'd pour you a little.”He walked near me and grabbed the bottle of alcohol from the ground, raising it and squinting his eyes to look at the level of the liquid.“A little? You drank over half already. I'm taking the whole thing. Andrew

  • HIS EX-WIFE, HIS NIGHTMARE   Lust At First Sight: Eight

Chapter EightMaryanne:“Please.” I pleaded, my voice forcing itself out as I gagged. Her grip tightened, almost crushing my throat.A tear slipped down my face and finally, she let go and walked away.I coughed, my head striking the ground as I collapsed weakly. My throat stung with each cough. I held my neck, massaging it gently but it was too late. The lack of oxygen had side effects and my vision was starting to blur.My eyes wavered, and I fought to stay conscious but again, I lost and exhaustion won, enveloping me.—I heard a small muffled noise. Immediately, my eyes fluttered open and the muffled noise constantly turned to rowdy, loud cheers and curses. My eyes scanned through the environment. As it seemed, I was in a bar filled with young, alcoholic men. They all walked past me, some quiet but their presence commanding. While others talked shamelessly, their mouths reeking of smoke and beer.I felt something trickle down between my legs, like a slow, warm liquid dripping down
