LOGINThe hospital room was silent, except for the soft beep of the machine and the drip droplets.
Alicia’s eyes open slowly. Her vision was blurry at first, but the soft beeping of the machine and the slight pain she felt on her tummy reminded her she wasn’t home. She blinked a few more times, trying to be in charge of her breath. Her body felt weak and heavy, but she was alive.
“Hey… you’re awake,” Amaya said, sitting up in the chair in the corner of the bed. Her voice came out as a whisper as she stood and moved closer. “Thank God. I thought you wouldn’t wake up, you scared me.”
Alicia smiled faintly, her lips dry and ashy. “I’m okay.”
She carefully sat on the bed, brushing a strand of hair from Alicia’s face. “You scared me.”
Alicia’s voice was still not audible. “Where’s Maya?”
“She’s with your sister. Becky brought her here earlier, but I told her to take Maya home to rest. It was too much for her.”
Alicia nodded slowly. Her eyes went to the drip beside her. “Is Lucas… okay?”
Amaya hesitated. “He’s recovering. The transplant was successful. They moved him to a separate room last night.”
She closed her eyes for a moment, her chest rising slowly. “Good.”
Amaya reached for her hand and held it gently. “You shouldn’t have done it, Ali. But… you did. And I respect you for that.”

8 days later, Alicia was discharged.
Lucas helped her gently into the house, one hand around her waist, the other holding her bag. She was still weak, but stronger than before.
To her surprise, the living room was filled with the scent of something sweet, and the fragrance was that of a familiar one. On the couch sat a man in his late fifties, tall, bearded, with sharp features that resembled Lucas.
“Dad,” Lucas said, dropping the bag and helping Alicia to sit.
Mr. David stood, his eyes resting on Alicia. “You’re finally home.”
Alicia smiled faintly. “Yes, Dad. How was your trip? Didn't know you were back.”
Mr. David walked closer and held her hand with both of his. His voice was calm, deep. “I just got back from London this morning. Lucas told me everything. This son of mine hid such major surgery from me for such a long while.”
Alicia tried to sit up straighter. “I just did what I thought was right.”
“No,” Mr. David said firmly, “what you did was beyond right. It was rare, I have no doubt now that you are meant for my son.”
Lucas looked down, saying nothing, he had nothing to say, his father’s presence always had a way of intimidating him..
“You gave him a second chance at life. You gave my son a second chance,” Mr. David continued. “I’ll never forget that, and I'm sure he wouldn't either.”
Alicia blinked fast to fight back the tears.
At that moment, the front door opened.
Becky walked in, holding Maya by the hand. The little girl rushed in, screaming happily, “Mommy!”
Alicia opened her arms, and Maya jumped into them. “My baby,” she whispered, holding her tight.
Lucas stepped back and gave them space. Becky stood by the door, watching the scene. Her jaw tightened slightly as her eyes moved toward her sister, sitting on the couch, looking fragile but surrounded by affection. She masked her anger with a smile.
Mr. David turned to Becky. “Thank you for looking after Maya.”
Becky forced a smile. “Of course, Uncle.”
Lucas walked over to Alicia and kissed her forehead. “You need to lie down. I’ll take Maya upstairs.”
“Okay.”
Becky’s eyes were red with envy, but she had gotten so used to masking her feelings and true identity.
She watched as Lucas carried Maya gently, whispering something that made the little girl giggle.
Mr. David sat beside Alicia and began telling her stories about Lucas as a child, smiling fondly and laughing softly. The living room felt warm again, like it hadn’t in years.
Becky stood there, arms folded.
It should have been me, she thought. I’ve always been the one he wanted.
But now, Lucas wasn’t even looking at her.
***********
The next morning, the house phone rang.
Mr. David had left earlier to attend a quick business meeting across town. Alicia was still in bed, and Lucas was preparing Maya for school.
The call came through the landline.
“Hello?” Lucas answered casually.
There was a long pause on the other end. Then a voice spoke like it had been rehearsing the words for days.
“Is this the David residence?”
“Yes, this is Lucas David. Who’s this?”
“This is St. Luke Hospital. I’m afraid… there’s been an accident.”
“What?”
“Mr. Benjamin David. He was involved in a car crash. He was brought in this morning, and it is a critical one, if I must say. You need to come quickly.”
He didn’t hear anything else.
The phone dropped from his hand, and he rushed upstairs.
ALICIA/DANIELLA’S POVTWO YEARS LATERI can't believe it’s already been two years. I never imagined myself owning a diary, but here I am, writing it all down. The therapist I’ve been seeing for the past year recommended journaling, and honestly, it’s helped. I’m in a much better place now.A whole lot happened two years ago, dearest diary. Becky’s body was found close to Ethan’s house. From the investigation, it was linked to a girl named Soso, who apparently planned everything with Lucas. The judge was lenient enough to give Lucas life imprisonment. Who would have thought things would end like that?I don’t know why, but I felt sad when I learned about Becky’s death. She was someone I considered a sister for years. But she chose that path. I was tired of living in anger, so I forgave both my mum and dad. Oops! I love the sound of that. And yes, Zoe did the same. Diego acts all tough, but I know he deeply cares about our mum. I now have two step-siblings: Diego and my little pumpkin,
Alicia couldn’t tell how long they had been tied to the chairs. Her whole body ached, but it was nothing compared to the heaviness in her heart. She kept staring at Captain Smith, her mind swarming with questions. He looked too calm for the deep mess they were in. Then, the door opened.Larry walked in and said to the two men watching over them, "My father asked that I show you two something in that smaller room. Come with me."The men followed him, unaware of what was coming. Larry slowed down, let them go inside the small room, then quickly slammed the door shut and locked it. The room had been laced with chemicals strong enough to knock any human unconscious. He wasted no time pulling a small table knife from his back pocket and cutting Captain Smith loose.Captain Smith immediately began untying Alicia, who looked at Larry, confused."We have to leave now, Captain," Larry said urgently. "Before the boys outside come back. I don’t know how long my father will be gone."Captain Smit
"You are surprised to see him, right? I know. He is my son. You know, when he told me that you specifically instructed him to make sure that Daniella was shielded during the summit, and that you even made him impersonate you as the CEO..."Scar's voice echoed through the empty room."I said to myself, why would Captain Smith go to this extent to protect someone? I don't want to bore you two with long stories. But I had a DNA test carried out. Larry here made that happen, and it confirmed my suspicions."He paused, watching their reactions."He has a daughter, all along. I also know that she had her face changed and that she is a twin… Zoe."Alicia kept looking at Scar, then turned her gaze to Captain Smith, who hadn’t said a word to deny any of it. The expression on his face told her everything she needed to know. It was true. All of it.Every day felt like a discovery. Her identity, her child’s paternity, everything around her felt like a lie. What else was left? Another child? More
“They have who?” Tim asked, his voice mixed with panic. He had been watching Captain Smith’s face since he picked up that call. The expression on his face had completely shifted, darkened. Tim could tell something serious was wrong.“Scar,” Captain Smith said finally. “He has Daniella. I’ve had my men watching him for years... how could this happen? The idiot wants to see me. If he so much as touches a strand of her hair, I’ll make him join his brother.”The way he spoke, so fierce, so unlike the man Tim had known for years, sent a chill through his spine. He swallowed hard, struggling to match the calmness in his voice.“Who are these men? Who is Scar? Uncle, how did you get involved with them? They sound dangerous, and you... I’ve always known you to love peace. What do they want with Daniella? None of this is making sense. And you’re not helping by keeping me in the dark.”“I’m gradually losing my mind too, Tim,” Captain said. “It doesn’t make sense to me either. But I need you to
Alicia opened her eyes slowly to a room filled with unfamiliar faces and an even more unfamiliar atmosphere. Her head felt heavy, like she had been out for days. Then, the memory started returning, Mr. Peter, the apology, and the sudden blackout. She sat up slowly, taking in her surroundings.A man with a large scar stretching from his eyebrow to the bottom of his cheek stood nearby. The scar had been stitched up so finely it almost looked like a birthmark. His presence was unnerving."Seems like you needed the sleep," he said with a smirk. "You slept through the whole night. It’s 10 a.m. already. I must say, you are really beautiful. Took after your dad’s good gene, huh?"Alicia furrowed her brows, confused. Who was this man? She eyed him warily as he dragged a chair close to the bed and sat."My name is Scar. You are Alicia... also known as Daniella Smith."She scoffed. "You must be one of Lucas’s goons. Sent to scare me? You’re wasting your time. If you know what’s good for you, le
Bryan didn't know what to say to the woman who gave him life, and was now gradually draining it from him. Mrs. Judge was still on the floor, wailing so hard. None of the maids dared go close to them. They all stuck to their chores, pretending like they saw nothing.Just then, Judge walked in, his chauffeur carrying his suitcase behind him. He stopped abruptly when he saw his wife sobbing on the floor."What is going on, son? Why is your mum crying like this?"Bryan didn’t answer immediately. He stared hard at his father, trying to keep his voice steady."Ask your wife. She has all the answers. And while you're at it, tell her this: she should never show her face at my door or office again. If she dares, I’ll get her arrested for trespassing, and I mean every single word I just said now."Even though his tone was low, the seriousness in his words was undeniable. Both his parents felt it. He didn’t wait for a response; he left without another word.Judge hurried to his wife, helping her
