Masuk“Hi my angel,” “Hi baby,” I spoke into the speaker, Matteo on the passenger seat as I drove us home. It had been a battle giving my driver a few weeks off so I could drive my Brabus. I was still in shock. Every morning I saw her, I was left in awe all over again. “I miss you.” Ryan said, my eyes running to Matteo who probably wished he could disappear. “I miss you more honey. You're coming home, right?” He left Tuesday morning. “I am on my way, I have an event tonight that I want to attend.” I frowned but quickly smiled because I would still have him all to myself all weekend. “How about you join me?” “Nope, I have my evening already planned out. Get home, take a long warm bath, bake some cookies, watch a movie, eat Ana’s lasagna.” It was just the perfect evening after a long week of none stop work. “I want you to meet someone, I think you will like her.” Ryan said back with me already shaking my head. In my head I was weighing my options. On one side, spending the evening in
Hendrix came to our rescue. All the other couples were gone, leaving Hendrix and Ryan. They were dirt drunk and Ryan kept insisting they go to a club. Hendrix shut it down and stood up to leave with his family. The fatigue had me by my neck. I had nearly passed out on that table. My feet were also still throbbing.“We can go,” Ryan turned to me.I shut it down hard. Any other night, yes, but that night I needed sleep like three hours ago. It was definitely past one in the morning. They were so drunk we literally had to carry their weights to the car. The cars were running, our guards having opened the door for us. I gave Ruth a good bye look, finding her struggling to get Hendrix to the passenger seat, he wanted to drive. I chuckled then followed Ryan in our car, the door closing. The cars began moving and I sighed, shifting to Ryan and lay my head on his shoulder. He lay his on mine. “Shh… baby.” He whispered in his drunken state. I was shocked he was still conscious. He had prob
The restaurant had been evacuated in a matter of thirty minutes. By the time we arrived, only the staff was there. Our table was set with a few balloons here and there along with a large happy birthday sign. I don’t know how they pulled it off but the staff and management needed a fat bonus. I was sure Ryan had scared and threatened them with everything he had. I stared back at him. He was really amazing and he was all mine. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We took our seats, and dishes were soon rolling out. Apparently, they were serving all of Hendrix’s favorite dishes, a whole menu whipped up fast with Hendrix’s special. I wanted to ask about Hendrix’s wife but didn’t want to trigger Ryan, he seemed to have finally relaxed. Hendrix also did not mention her, just saw him trying to call a few times but other than that, nothing. We ate, from starter to dessert, then the cake came out. As soon as the staff walked out, holding the large cake and so many sparklers we all stood up
I stared down at the baby still in my arms. My heart was full and I was happy. I was ready to be a mom, and I was more than ready to do it with Ryan whom I stole a glance from next to me. I was between these two men, fully dressed for the surprise birthday party. We had told Hendrix we were going out and gave him a lift since he had taken a drink or two while in the house. Blue had taken an afternoon nap and had needed a change after he woke up. I had ran all the way to Hendrix in horror only to watch with intense interest as he changed the diaper with such ease. It wasn’t even disgusting as I thought it would be. Blue had been all happy and kicking feet. Both Ryan and I watched, not missing a damn thing, internally taking notes. We instinctively stared at each other and I wondered if the same thought ran through both of our minds. We definitely had to take baby classes. If it were up to me, I would already be registering. I couldn’t wait for our next doctor’s appointment next week.
I had this new addiction of brushing my stomach while in meetings. For me it felt like I was keeping the baby company, telling them I was there and cooing them. Just after my third meeting, Ryan walked in, the other board members slowly filing the hall. He did not have much time, just checking on me before reassuring me that he would come back to pick me up at eight so we could fly out. “I am going to be fine, don’t stress about me,” I said as he looked reluctant to leave me behind, but where he was going was not a place for a lady like me. We hugged and kissed, he rubbed my belly, and kissed me again before walking out. Lunch was brought up to me in my fifteen-minute break, the city’s best pasta they said, and it was like nothing I had tasted before so yeah, I was sold. I jumped back to meetings with different stakeholders and different teams. I had an hour break at four so I asked the four guards Ryan had left if we could try to visit the nearest mall for shopping. I mean, I was i
I shook the shock off and turned, dashing to unpack my work bag, which had been placed on the desk. I turned it on, logged into the desktop, then extended my laptop screen to the computer, using the computer’s webcam to jump into the meeting. With no time to eat, I went starving. We dived right in, forgetting about food as soon as I was engulfed into the meeting, talking numbers, and planning. Two hours later, I was waving them bye, my next meeting in twenty minutes. I rushed to the coffee station, made myself hot chocolate, and was sad about the pastries cooling down but I did not waste time literally swallowing them fast so I could go check on Ryan. I wanted to see him in an office setting. Was he as goofy, or was he deadly? I swallowed the food down, leaving the hot chocolate halfway because I got too impatient. I took a side plate, carefully picking a few pastries for the love of my life, then I rushed to the door. When I walked out of the office, phone in hand, Matteo followe
RUTH’S P.O.V. The week moved in a blur and in that blur the only thing that snapped me from my panic were the routine calls from my husband. The first call was around dinner so he could facetime with Blue which was basically Blue blowing out bubbles in excitement and licking or shaking my phone.
I knew the moment I opened my eyes that I had overslept. “Hendrix,” I cursed, rolling out of the bed. I quickly made it and ran to the bathroom. Why hadn’t he woken me up? I did my deeds then jumped into the shower. By the time I finished dressing up and checked my phone it was half twelve midday.
I could not get my husband out of my head the whole day. It helped drown out the whole prom thing going on. The whole school had been turned to ribbons and balloons in preparation for that friday. Every corner you turned it was prom this, prom that, while I was bouncing around in my head like a lit
The exam kept me busy. I was barely even existing in the same world as everyone. I was in my caged world where nothing but the exam and my books existed. I rarely even ate, just floating through the days until the very last paper. I was exhausted, a shell, hollow, having put everything I had in t
