The restaurant had been evacuated in a matter of thirty minutes. By the time we arrived, only the staff was there. Our table was set with a few balloons here and there along with a large happy birthday sign. I don’t know how they pulled it off but the staff and management needed a fat bonus. I was sure Ryan had scared and threatened them with everything he had. I stared back at him. He was really amazing and he was all mine.The staff was friendly and welcoming. We took our seats, and dishes were soon rolling out. Apparently, they were serving all of Hendrix’s favorite dishes, a whole menu whipped up fast with Hendrix’s special. I wanted to ask about Hendrix’s wife but didn’t want to trigger Ryan, he seemed to have finally relaxed. Hendrix also did not mention her, just saw him trying to call a few times but other than that, nothing. We ate, from starter to dessert, then the cake came out. I stared down at the baby still in my arms. My heart was full and I was happy. I was ready to be a mom, and I was more than ready to do it with Ryan whom I stole a glance from next to me. I was between these two men, fully dressed for the surprise birthday party. We had told Hendrix we were going out and gave him a lift since he had taken a drink or two while in the house. Blue had taken an afternoon nap and had needed a change after he woke up. I had ran all the way to Hendrix in horror only to watch with intense interest as he changed the diaper with such ease. It wasn’t even disgusting as I thought it would be. Blue had been all happy and kicking feet. Both Ryan and I watched, not missing a damn thing, internally taking notes. We instinctively stared at each other and I wondered if the same thought ran through both of our minds. We definitely had to take baby classes. If it were up to me, I would already be registering. I couldn’t wait for our next doctor’s appointment next week.

I had this new addiction of brushing my stomach while in meetings. For me it felt like I was keeping the baby company, telling them I was there and cooing them. Lunch was brought up to me in my fifteen-minute break, the city’s best pasta they said, and it was like nothing I had tasted before so yeah, I was sold.
