Fading light

As the tragic night neared its end, the bright rays of the morning sun flooded the room, driving away the remnants of darkness.

Yet, for her, the shadows enveloping her life remained impenetrable, indifferent to the sun's feeble attempt.

Only if these rays could diminish the dark that had besieged her life too.

Nothing however could make it happen, she knew. No light, no matter how brilliant, could breach the depths of sorrow that had burdened her heart and soul.

Frail and broken, she lay beneath the silk sheets. Her puffy eyes fluttered open, only to be blinded by the streaming rays of light. Blinking in confusion, Emma wearily rested her head back on the pillow for a few seconds allowing her blurry vision to slowly adjust to the dazzling morning light.

With her cheek still gently pressed against the silk pillow, she looked around dumbfounded.
