After all the documentation, Wendy left and headed to see her father and sister.

“In two days’ time, we will move to the new apartment. This job is a life saver.” Wendy said happily.

“Hmm, this is good news but…” Greg said.

“But what?” Wendy queried as her smile disappeared.

“I feel less of myself. I should be the one fixing all this out and sorting the bills but you are bearing it all. I wish your mom was still alive to witness all this.”

Wendy lost her Mom to a ghastly motor accident when she was a teenager. They were based abroad but returned to the city when their father couldn't forget about his dear wife.

Greg initially left the city because his family didn't want him to get married to Nancy's mother who was already carrying his child.

It wasn't easy for Greg to manage the family alone, nevertheless, he ensured his children became literate.

At the end of it all, he was proud that Wendy brought him so much joy.

“Mom will be proud of me wherever she is. Come off it, Dad. By the way, where is Nancy?” Wendy uttered.

“Nancy didn't return after she left angrily that night. I am worried about her,” said Greg.

Wendy wasn't happy about this and blamed herself for not opening up about her marriage to Nancy.

She was about to say something when her phone buzzed indicating a notification.

Wendy pulled her phone out of the bag and was frightened by the notification she got.

[You have no idea how cruel the man you got married to is. You won't go scot-free if you try anything stupid. Divorce him now so you can have peace. You've willingly entered the confines of the devil. Watch your back!]

To worsen the case, it was from a hidden number.

“Dad!” Wendy yelled. Who could be behind this.

Her gaze darted between Greg and the phone.

“What is it, dear?” Greg uttered worriedly.

Wendy was short of words. With shaky hands, she gave him the phone, displaying the message.

“Since I got married, I haven't had peace for a day. Don't I deserve to be happy?”

“My joy over my new job has been cut short by this threatening message.”

Wendy couldn't help but pour out her pains.

“Don't be scared, I am with you. If the person has the courage, he or she should appear in person and not hide behind anonymous messages. Keep your emotions under control.” Greg said after noticing the fearful glint in Wendy's eyes.

“Keeping my emotions under control will be difficult.” Wendy took a deep breath.

“You have to try. Letting your emotions get the best of you will have an adverse effect on your productivity at your place of work. That will send a bad signal to your employer.” Greg advised.

“I will try, Dad.”

“If you make up your mind to divorce your husband, I will give you the support that you need. You are all I have left and you mean a lot to me.” Greg uttered

Wendy heaved and made her way home.

The ride seemed longer than usual as Wendy’s mind drowned in the memories of the threatening message.

Quietly, she entered her room. Wendy was famished but was so weak to do anything, so she fell flat on the bed.

“Who could be behind this?” Wendy whispered.

Drowning in her thoughts, she dozed off.

Meanwhile, Hilton was attending to the stack of files on his table when someone knocked on the door. Before he could answer, the person was before him.

Only Jerry was capable of entering his office in such a manner.

“The bracelet on your hand struck her attention. You must have pressed the video icon by mistake. You have to take care of that.” Jerry uttered.

“I noticed too, it’s a small thing to worry about.” Hilton said with a sly smile.

“I believe your words.” Jerry smiled.

“Ensure Wendy is closely monitored. She is now in my world which means bad things can happen to her.” Hilton instructed and Jerry gave a nod.

Hilton diverted the discussion. “When will the latest orders arrive?”

“In the next five hours.” Jerry replied.

The duo went on to discuss the next project they plan to embark on. They also talked about the companies that want to partner with them.

Jerry touched his jaw as though he had remembered something. “Caleb sent several proposals both soft copies and hard copies, on behalf of the Julius Company to show their interest in partnering with us.

A devilish smirk was evident on Hilton’s face and he said. “I am glad that their desperation will lead to their destruction.”

“Do you have a new plan?” Jerry asked.

“None for now. The initial plan is still valid.”

Just then, Hilton’s phone buzzed.

Staring at the screen, he hissed. It was a message from Caleb, his half-brother.

“Speak of the devil.” Hilton said angrily.

He read the message aloud.

[Hilton, has your disfigured face also led to loss of memory? I’ll be so kind as to remind you. Today is our grandfather's birthday. He has requested that you and your wife should come over. Be present, take this as a golden opportunity because none of us want to have anything to do with a pauper like you and your wife.]

Hilton pushed the phone away and clenched his fist. How dare Caleb drag his wife into all this?

Anger was still brewing within him when he received a call from an unknown number.

“Who is this?” Hilton queried.

“Who do you think you are to answer a call so coldly. Miserable yet proud.”

Recognizing the voice as that of Caleb, he asked coldly.

“Why did you call me?”

“Just a reminder, be present at Grandpa's birthday tonight.” Caleb ended the call.

Jerry stared at his furrowed brow and said within him. ‘This is more chaotic than I had thought. The Julius family won’t be able to withstand the destruction that is ahead of them. If only they knew the true identity of the chairman of Darnold Enterprise.’

Hilton leaned on his seat, his expression cold and unreadable.

“They will all pay, none of them will go unpunished. The game just started.”

“Don’t mess things up. I won’t spare anyone who does.” Caleb muttered coldly and hung up.Engrossed in his anger, he didn’t know when his mom walked in.“Who was that?” Betty questioned after noticing his anger.“Don’t worry, just some personal stuff.” Caleb replied, feigning a smile.“Don’t you dare lie to me. You had better not complicate things further otherwise, you will lose you inheritance as your father’s heir.” She uttered with a warning and displeasing tone.“Mom!” Caleb squealed, “Those are just empty threats, no one can take my inheritance.”“Don’t be too sure! We have taken Hilton away from the line but it doesn’t mean your father cannot will his assets to the orphanages. He mentioned it earlier! I have to be involved in everything that concerns you!” She spoke but the warning in her voice didn’t go unnoticed.“Enough of the long sermon.” Caleb sighed, “It was Susan. She will help me to accomplish our mission.”He went on to reveal Susan’s identity to her. Betty arched he

‘I have to play along to get what I want. It is just a matter of time and Wendy will abandon this disfigured man and become mine.’ Caleb said inwardly. Hilton felt like giving Caleb a kick that would send him flying meters away but he couldn’t because of Wendy. “Hilton, I am here to talk to your wife so that the chaos between you and the family will end once and for all.” Caleb said with a pretentious smile. “I know you better than you think, you don’t have to lie. Why are you here?” Hilton asked coldly and his voice made Caleb slightly scared. “If you know me better then how well do you know your wife?” Caleb said with a chuckling tone. Caleb smiled as he thought of putting Hilton and Wendy at loggerheads so much so that they resort to a divorce. “What do you mean?” Hilton queried. “Why don’t you tell your wife to tell you what’s between her and Jerry, her boss?” Caleb smiled evilly. “Are you insane?” Wendy yelled at Caleb but Hilton remained indifferent. Caleb looke

Meanwhile, Caleb and Susan stood outside Darnold enterprise. “Aren’t you going to use your power and influence to deal with Wendy. She must be feeling like a hero now.” Susan said angrily. “I have the power and the influence but I don’t want to use it because I need her to convince her husband to get something done.” Caleb said to her. “I see…” she muttered. Susan cleared her throat and rolled her eyes as she recalled the wealth Julius’ family possessed. “We met in an unusual manner but permit me to say I am delighted to meet you.” Susan said sweetly. Her tone irritated Caleb, he had read her mind and concluded that she was a gold digger seeking for luxury and ease. He knew a lot about Susan and her family but she knew little or nothing about him. ‘Just carry out my plans, I will play along. You are not worth being my friend.’ Caleb said within him. “I will help you to get whatever you want from Wendy.” She added, trying to win his trust. “I will appreciate that.” He

While Susan was having a phone conversation, Caleb approached Wendy’s desk. Wendy stared at him with her expression tightened.“Why are you here?” Wendy asked coldly.“Is that how you welcome your brother-in-law?” Caleb gave a sly smile. The word brother-in-law caught Susan’s attention after her call. She looked at the man from head to toe. That instant, she had a crush on him.“I didn’t invite you here.” Wendy responded indifferently.Caleb gave a sly smile. “I am here because you have to help my family secure the partnership with Darnold enterprise. If you want Hilton to get his inheritance, you have a part to play.”“Don’t try to play games with you. Hilton has given you his conditions and if you cannot abide by it, forget about Darnold enterprise.” Wendy said to him fearlessly.Caleb’s eyes reddened immediately as he felt insulted by Wendy’s words. However, he had to cover up his anger so that his mission can be accomplished.“Name your price? Do this for me and I will ensure you

The weekend was over and Wendy was seated at her desk, attending to her job. Just then, Jerry summoned all the staff to pass an important announcement.“It is no longer hidden that Darnold Enterprise will be sixty years old in a few days’ time. We will be celebrating this milestone in a grand way. We must work together to make it successful. All of us must attend.” Jerry said a lot.Ten minutes later, all the employees returned to their desk except for Priscy who was discussing with Wendy.“I heard the event will be held at Mr. Darnold mansion.” Priscy lowered her voice.“Alright,” Wendy remained indifferent and stared at her.Priscy continued, “I have to look my best. You never can tell if I will meet my soulmate at the event. A lot of dignitaries will attend the event; I need to look my best.”“Hey girl, come out of your lullaby! Keep your expectations low so that you don’t get disappointed.” Wendy told Priscy with a slight smile.“I am optimistic. Wendy, why don’t you look excit

You have to deal with her.” Ketura said with widened eyes, pitying him.Jason was embarrassed to tell them that he kidnaped her to forcefully get married to her so he didn’t give a reply.Silas read meaning to his silence, “We know you are in pain. You don’t have to talk now, you are still recovering.”“Pearl and I have decided to be on the lookout for Wendy and her husband. They must be punished for this.” Susan said angrily.“Tread carefully, you don't know who is helping her.” Jason managed to whisper. He knew that whoever sent those men to save Wendy must be wealthy and influential. Ketura informed Susan that Hilton and Wendy were currently at Greg’s residence. She also told them all that happened and the conditions Wendy gave them.“So stupid of her, I will deal with her.” Susan uttered confidently.“A lot has changed about Wendy since she got married.” Pearl added coldly.“All I know is that she must be punished.” Ketura s
