After all the documentation, Wendy left and headed to see her father and sister.

“In two days’ time, we will move to the new apartment. This job is a life saver.” Wendy said happily.

“Hmm, this is good news but…” Greg said.

“But what?” Wendy queried as her smile disappeared.

“I feel less of myself. I should be the one fixing all this out and sorting the bills but you are bearing it all. I wish your mom was still alive to witness all this.”

Wendy lost her Mom to a ghastly motor accident when she was a teenager. They were based abroad but returned to the city when their father couldn't forget about his dear wife.

Greg initially left the city because his family didn't want him to get married to Nancy's mother who was already carrying his child.

It wasn't easy for Greg to manage the family alone, nevertheless, he ensured his children became literate.

At the end of it all, he was proud that Wendy brought him so much joy.

“Mom will be proud of me wherever she is. Come off it, Dad. By the way, where is Nancy?” Wendy uttered.

“Nancy didn't return after she left angrily that night. I am worried about her,” said Greg.

Wendy wasn't happy about this and blamed herself for not opening up about her marriage to Nancy.

She was about to say something when her phone buzzed indicating a notification.

Wendy pulled her phone out of the bag and was frightened by the notification she got.

[You have no idea how cruel the man you got married to is. You won't go scot-free if you try anything stupid. Divorce him now so you can have peace. You've willingly entered the confines of the devil. Watch your back!]

To worsen the case, it was from a hidden number.

“Dad!” Wendy yelled. Who could be behind this.

Her gaze darted between Greg and the phone.

“What is it, dear?” Greg uttered worriedly.

Wendy was short of words. With shaky hands, she gave him the phone, displaying the message.

“Since I got married, I haven't had peace for a day. Don't I deserve to be happy?”

“My joy over my new job has been cut short by this threatening message.”

Wendy couldn't help but pour out her pains.

“Don't be scared, I am with you. If the person has the courage, he or she should appear in person and not hide behind anonymous messages. Keep your emotions under control.” Greg said after noticing the fearful glint in Wendy's eyes.

“Keeping my emotions under control will be difficult.” Wendy took a deep breath.

“You have to try. Letting your emotions get the best of you will have an adverse effect on your productivity at your place of work. That will send a bad signal to your employer.” Greg advised.

“I will try, Dad.”

“If you make up your mind to divorce your husband, I will give you the support that you need. You are all I have left and you mean a lot to me.” Greg uttered

Wendy heaved and made her way home.

The ride seemed longer than usual as Wendy’s mind drowned in the memories of the threatening message.

Quietly, she entered her room. Wendy was famished but was so weak to do anything, so she fell flat on the bed.

“Who could be behind this?” Wendy whispered.

Drowning in her thoughts, she dozed off.

Meanwhile, Hilton was attending to the stack of files on his table when someone knocked on the door. Before he could answer, the person was before him.

Only Jerry was capable of entering his office in such a manner.

“The bracelet on your hand struck her attention. You must have pressed the video icon by mistake. You have to take care of that.” Jerry uttered.

“I noticed too, it’s a small thing to worry about.” Hilton said with a sly smile.

“I believe your words.” Jerry smiled.

“Ensure Wendy is closely monitored. She is now in my world which means bad things can happen to her.” Hilton instructed and Jerry gave a nod.

Hilton diverted the discussion. “When will the latest orders arrive?”

“In the next five hours.” Jerry replied.

The duo went on to discuss the next project they plan to embark on. They also talked about the companies that want to partner with them.

Jerry touched his jaw as though he had remembered something. “Caleb sent several proposals both soft copies and hard copies, on behalf of the Julius Company to show their interest in partnering with us.

A devilish smirk was evident on Hilton’s face and he said. “I am glad that their desperation will lead to their destruction.”

“Do you have a new plan?” Jerry asked.

“None for now. The initial plan is still valid.”

Just then, Hilton’s phone buzzed.

Staring at the screen, he hissed. It was a message from Caleb, his half-brother.

“Speak of the devil.” Hilton said angrily.

He read the message aloud.

[Hilton, has your disfigured face also led to loss of memory? I’ll be so kind as to remind you. Today is our grandfather's birthday. He has requested that you and your wife should come over. Be present, take this as a golden opportunity because none of us want to have anything to do with a pauper like you and your wife.]

Hilton pushed the phone away and clenched his fist. How dare Caleb drag his wife into all this?

Anger was still brewing within him when he received a call from an unknown number.

“Who is this?” Hilton queried.

“Who do you think you are to answer a call so coldly. Miserable yet proud.”

Recognizing the voice as that of Caleb, he asked coldly.

“Why did you call me?”

“Just a reminder, be present at Grandpa's birthday tonight.” Caleb ended the call.

Jerry stared at his furrowed brow and said within him. ‘This is more chaotic than I had thought. The Julius family won’t be able to withstand the destruction that is ahead of them. If only they knew the true identity of the chairman of Darnold Enterprise.’

Hilton leaned on his seat, his expression cold and unreadable.

“They will all pay, none of them will go unpunished. The game just started.”
