Arriving home, Wendy crashed into the couch as she came into terms of her marital status. She realized Hilton wasn’t at home and immediately, the thought of him begging around to have people pity him crept into her mind.

Thinking of diverse ways to tread her new path, she eventually dozed off.

Wendy couldn’t tell for how long she slept but she woke up when she heard footsteps approaching.

Hilton looked at her deeply and for minutes, it was as if everything was still. Wendy couldn’t explain why she felt something different about her husband. However, she quickly spoke to divert her thoughts.

“Where are you coming from?” Wendy questioned with a tightened expression.

Hilton shook his head and attempted to walk away. To his surprise, Wendy blocked his way and had her arms crossed over her chest.

“What’s all this? Excuse me.” Hilton said with a deep and cold tone.

“Exactly what it seems. Where did you go? I demand an explanation from you, Mister Hilton. From the day we got married, you have to be accountable to me about all your movements.” She glared at him, making him throw a surprise glance at her.

“That won’t be possible, Miss Carter. Move away before you see the other side of me,” he said.

“It will be my pleasure to remind you that I am now Mrs. Hilton. You have to be accountable to me.” Wendy yelled.

Hilton hissed and pushed her away, making her fall on the couch. “You don’t know what you are saying, little girl.”

“What?!” Wendy widened her eyes. “You feel I am little? You have no idea what this little girl is capable of.” She pointed at him.

He ignored her and went into his room, ensuring the door was locked from inside.

“How dare you walk out on me? You are not just disfigured but also disrespectful. Where are your morals? Is that how your mom taught you to treat ladies?” Wendy went to his door and slammed her hand against it severally.

Hilton who had fell flat on his bed abruptly stood up and opened the door, wearing a frown.

“Are you ready to leave this house? Did I hear you refer to my mom?” He asked in a cold voice but Wendy remained undaunted as she folded her arms and stared at him.

“I won’t leave this house. Yes, I did.” She replied resolutely.

“Wendy!” Hilton said in a low voice.

Hearing him mention her name made butterflies roam in her belly. “That’s my name,” she said with an arched brow.

“In all you do or say, never mention my mom. You might not be lucky to see my soft side next time. Leave my presence this moment.” He uttered with a deep baritone.

Her boyfriend and best friend cheated on her but she remained calm. To save her sister, she offered herself willingly. To make people happy, Wendy had always danced to the tune of others but not any longer.

“If he really respects his mom and she taught him well, he wouldn’t have gotten hitched to me forcefully.” Wendy said inwardly.

Wendy proposed in her heart to do what pleases her, be resilient and show her strength henceforth.

She can’t let anyone trample on her and go freely; she is no longer weak. She had always been the victim; it is time to be the victor.

“Hold it right there!” Wendy pointed at Hilton, leaving him baffled.

Wendy continued, “As long as we stay in this house together. We both make the rules. Don’t speak to me like I am your maid or you picked me up from the gutter. The same way you feel about this union is what I also feel, I never dreamt of getting into a loveless marriage. Therefore, when I demand an explanation from you, you have to explain. You can’t be living like a bachelor when you are married. Do you understand?”

“I also just got a job with Darnold Enterprise which means I will foot the bills in this house. You have to accord me the respect I deserve as your help-meet. I won’t tolerate you moving about aimlessly or begging from rich folks.”

Wendy paused. She stared at his hand as she remembered the black bracelet she had seen with the chairman of Darnold Enterprise.

Following the direction of her eyes, Hilton deciphered what was on her mind.

“I have seen you with a black bracelet. Where is it? Who gave you?” Wendy queried.

Hilton remained indifferent, he had predicted that such a thing will come up so he left the bracelet at the office. The bracelet was a customized gift, given to him by his mom.

Only him had the bracelet!

Reading meaning to his silence, Wendy concluded that Hilton’s bracelet was different from her boss’ own.

“We have exchanged our marital vows, I don’t expect you to love me as the priest said at the altar. However, you must not do anything that will bring shame to me.”

Wendy said a lot. Hilton had an unreadable expression but she felt he was moved by each word.

Hilton’s lip parted slightly, he was shocked. After what seemed like forever, he sighed.

Hilton never expected to see this side of Wendy!

Wendy walked away with her head high, with the feeling of satisfaction visible on her face.

Hilton had his gaze fixed on her till she entered her room and shut the door.

Taking few steps backwards, Hilton returned into his room and locked the door. He couldn’t help but stare at the mirror. All what Wendy displayed earlier was the opposite of the feedback he heard about her.

He pulled off his mask and glanced at it. For minutes, he couldn’t stop thinking about Wendy.

“It seems she is breaking out of her shell now.” Hilton whispered.

To take his mind off Wendy, Hilton scrolled through his phone to know his schedule for the next day. He fell flat on his bed to sleep, but he felt restless. Drowning in the ocean of various thoughts, Hilton eventually drifted to sleep.

I can see that you want to continue from where you stopped yesterday.” Hilton heaved. “I don't have time for this.”His words made a surge of anger flow through Wendy's veins.“Who does this man think he is?” Wendy said inwardly.Hilton couldn't explain why he felt reluctant to throw Wendy out of his house despite all her troubles. That must be because of the goal
