Arriving home, Wendy crashed into the couch as she came into terms of her marital status. She realized Hilton wasn’t at home and immediately, the thought of him begging around to have people pity him crept into her mind.

Thinking of diverse ways to tread her new path, she eventually dozed off.

Wendy couldn’t tell for how long she slept but she woke up when she heard footsteps approaching.

Hilton looked at her deeply and for minutes, it was as if everything was still. Wendy couldn’t explain why she felt something different about her husband. However, she quickly spoke to divert her thoughts.

“Where are you coming from?” Wendy questioned with a tightened expression.

Hilton shook his head and attempted to walk away. To his surprise, Wendy blocked his way and had her arms crossed over her chest.

“What’s all this? Excuse me.” Hilton said with a deep and cold tone.

“Exactly what it seems. Where did you go? I demand an explanation from you, Mister Hilton. From the day we got married, you have to be accountable to me about all your movements.” She glared at him, making him throw a surprise glance at her.

“That won’t be possible, Miss Carter. Move away before you see the other side of me,” he said.

“It will be my pleasure to remind you that I am now Mrs. Hilton. You have to be accountable to me.” Wendy yelled.

Hilton hissed and pushed her away, making her fall on the couch. “You don’t know what you are saying, little girl.”

“What?!” Wendy widened her eyes. “You feel I am little? You have no idea what this little girl is capable of.” She pointed at him.

He ignored her and went into his room, ensuring the door was locked from inside.

“How dare you walk out on me? You are not just disfigured but also disrespectful. Where are your morals? Is that how your mom taught you to treat ladies?” Wendy went to his door and slammed her hand against it severally.

Hilton who had fell flat on his bed abruptly stood up and opened the door, wearing a frown.

“Are you ready to leave this house? Did I hear you refer to my mom?” He asked in a cold voice but Wendy remained undaunted as she folded her arms and stared at him.

“I won’t leave this house. Yes, I did.” She replied resolutely.

“Wendy!” Hilton said in a low voice.

Hearing him mention her name made butterflies roam in her belly. “That’s my name,” she said with an arched brow.

“In all you do or say, never mention my mom. You might not be lucky to see my soft side next time. Leave my presence this moment.” He uttered with a deep baritone.

Her boyfriend and best friend cheated on her but she remained calm. To save her sister, she offered herself willingly. To make people happy, Wendy had always danced to the tune of others but not any longer.

“If he really respects his mom and she taught him well, he wouldn’t have gotten hitched to me forcefully.” Wendy said inwardly.

Wendy proposed in her heart to do what pleases her, be resilient and show her strength henceforth.

She can’t let anyone trample on her and go freely; she is no longer weak. She had always been the victim; it is time to be the victor.

“Hold it right there!” Wendy pointed at Hilton, leaving him baffled.

Wendy continued, “As long as we stay in this house together. We both make the rules. Don’t speak to me like I am your maid or you picked me up from the gutter. The same way you feel about this union is what I also feel, I never dreamt of getting into a loveless marriage. Therefore, when I demand an explanation from you, you have to explain. You can’t be living like a bachelor when you are married. Do you understand?”

“I also just got a job with Darnold Enterprise which means I will foot the bills in this house. You have to accord me the respect I deserve as your help-meet. I won’t tolerate you moving about aimlessly or begging from rich folks.”

Wendy paused. She stared at his hand as she remembered the black bracelet she had seen with the chairman of Darnold Enterprise.

Following the direction of her eyes, Hilton deciphered what was on her mind.

“I have seen you with a black bracelet. Where is it? Who gave you?” Wendy queried.

Hilton remained indifferent, he had predicted that such a thing will come up so he left the bracelet at the office. The bracelet was a customized gift, given to him by his mom.

Only him had the bracelet!

Reading meaning to his silence, Wendy concluded that Hilton’s bracelet was different from her boss’ own.

“We have exchanged our marital vows, I don’t expect you to love me as the priest said at the altar. However, you must not do anything that will bring shame to me.”

Wendy said a lot. Hilton had an unreadable expression but she felt he was moved by each word.

Hilton’s lip parted slightly, he was shocked. After what seemed like forever, he sighed.

Hilton never expected to see this side of Wendy!

Wendy walked away with her head high, with the feeling of satisfaction visible on her face.

Hilton had his gaze fixed on her till she entered her room and shut the door.

Taking few steps backwards, Hilton returned into his room and locked the door. He couldn’t help but stare at the mirror. All what Wendy displayed earlier was the opposite of the feedback he heard about her.

He pulled off his mask and glanced at it. For minutes, he couldn’t stop thinking about Wendy.

“It seems she is breaking out of her shell now.” Hilton whispered.

To take his mind off Wendy, Hilton scrolled through his phone to know his schedule for the next day. He fell flat on his bed to sleep, but he felt restless. Drowning in the ocean of various thoughts, Hilton eventually drifted to sleep.

After all the documentation, Wendy left and headed to see her father and sister.“In two days’ time, we will move to the new apartment. This job is a life saver.” Wendy said happily.“Hmm, this is good news but…” Greg said.“But what?” Wendy queried as her smile disappeared.“I feel less of myself. I should be the one fixing all this out and sorting the bills but you are bearing it all. I wish your mom was still alive to witness all this.”Wendy lost her Mom to a ghastly motor accident when she was a teenager. They were based abroad but returned to the city when their father couldn't forget about his dear wife. Greg initially left the city because his family didn't want him to get married to Nancy's mother who was already carrying his child. It wasn't easy for Greg to manage the family alone, nevertheless, he ensured his children became literate. At the end of it all, he was proud that Wendy brought him so much joy.“Mom will be proud of me wherever she is. Come off it, Dad. By the

Wendy arrived at Darnold Enterprise at exactly seven. She heaved in relaxation. With the help of the receptionist, she headed to the ICT room where the test will be taking place.Just then, Wendy stumbled on a man who was walking out of the room and had his phone glued to his ear.“Who are you? Do you want to push the chairman down? Get lost!” A young man scolded her.“I am sorry, I never meant it that way.” Wendy bowed her head. The man moved his phone from his ear and looked at Wendy who was fidgeting. He gestured to the man to let her be.“Come in,” the young man uttered.Within the twinkle of an eye, Wendy walked in. She turned back to see if the chairman would still be by the door but unfortunately, he wasn’t. She wished she was more composed earlier then she would have exchanged pleasantries with the chairman of Darnold Enterprise. The person everyone desired to curry favor from because of his great influence in the business world.“Next time, be more careful and conscious.” We

The next day.Refusing to apply makeup, Wendy got dressed in a white flowing gown that belonged to her mother. Her mother wished to see her daughters wear them too. Unfortunately, she was snatched by the cold hands of death. Wendy was excited that her mother’s wish was coming to pass but it was heartbreaking that she was wearing it to exchange marital vows with a stranger; someone she didn’t love.Only a few people were present at the cathedral to witness the joining. “Are you sure about this?” Greg whispered as he walked her down the aisle to meet her husband.“Yes,” she replied confidently.Facing the strange man, her heart raced against it cage. The man was really disfigured and he had a cold expression. Scars and scary patches dominated his face. She had signed up for this so she kept her cool. The priest came over and began the process. At the end, they both uttered I DO.“Let’s go to your new home.” Hilton uttered and led the way to a cab.Wendy complained inwardly. This was s

They had fun and talked about their memories when they were in college.“This is more fun than I had imagined.” Wendy said to her fiancé, Jason.“Yeah right,” Jason replied.Wendy was about to say something but was interrupted by Jason’s buzzing phone.Hurriedly, he picked up the phone and said. “I have to attend to something urgent. I will be back in a jiffy.”It's over thirty minutes and Jason hasn’t returned. Wendy picked her purse and went in search of Jason. They have been courting for three years and she loved him so much. She called his mobile line, it rang but there was no response. She went out, with intentions to wait by his car side till he came over.As she approached the car, her gaze was etched with confusion as she saw the car swaying gently. At that point came a feminine seductive voice.“Give me more! Faster!”Wendy’s heart beat rate tripled. She quickly opened the door and the ground before her sank. She beheld
