KHALID

The next morning, sunlight filtered through the windows, rousing me. I stretched, muscles still sore, and headed for the bathroom.

Splashing water on my face, I met my gaze in the mirror. I looked smaller than I remembered, my eyes holding a rare lightness. For the first time in what felt like forever, they truly held a spark. A grin touched my lips, revealing white teeth, and a wave of unexpected hope surged through me.

I was going to get back my mate soon.

This was my first full day in the human world. I had to make it count.

Quietly, I walked to June’s bed and tapped his shoulder. We needed to move, and quickly.

“June. It’s morning, get up!” I tapped his shoulder, desperate to move on from this place.

No response.

I leaned closer, placing a hand on his back. It felt still… cold. My brows furrowed. My heart began to thump a frantic rhythm. His chest wasn’t rising.

“June?”

I jerked upright, body rigid. “June,” I called again—louder now, shaking him. His head tilted slightly wi

Last chapters continuation… MIA“What?” asked Dilan.“H-hurting me… trying to make it stark clear that you will never accept me. That I’ll never be good enough for you? You told me something different… but you’re doing the opposite. Tell me, how long have you been sleeping together?”“W-we haven’t done—““Shut up, Mia. I wasn’t speaking to you. Know when to retreat back into your shell!”I just stood there, shocked and dumbfounded, a rush of emotions surging through me all at once.“Quite long—““Dilan! You know that’s a lie—““She asked you to shut up. So shut up, sister Omega,” Dilan snapped.“Sister Omega” sounded familiar. Then I remembered. Eva had called me that right after she taught me how to bring Bell back for a run—back on that night in the woods.Dilan faced Eva again. “I told you to move on. Find your mate and make up with him. You can keep crying from now until the world ends—I don’t care. I’ll still not accept you. So hit your head on the wall if you have to. But leave

MIAEva’s mouth hung wide open as she stared at us. She didn’t scream… didn’t cry… didn’t utter a single word. She just fixated on Dilan and me, sprawled on the bed.I saw her shaking, and a sharp throb of guilt pierced my conscience. Instantly, I pulled away from Dilan’s grasp and straightened my clothing. I slid off the bed and started towards her, but my legs felt numb. Guilt and shame danced in my mind, and I desperately wished I could rewind time.I wasn’t sure about this. I had never been sure about doing this. Eva and Dilan might not have been romantically involved, but I knew she loved him. She’d come to me in the middle of the night, weeping, to confront me about kissing him. And I’d defended myself… firing back at her.And now…Eva’s lips trembled, as if she was trying to form words, but none would emerge. Then, abruptly, she stormed out of the room.“Crazy,” Dilan muttered under his breath. “Why barge in like that? I don’t know where that girl gets her nerve.”Slowly, I tur

MIA“Come in,” I said. I knew it was Dilan. The door handle twisted, but the door didn’t open. I suddenly remembered that I had bolted it the night before.“Oh damn!” I rushed over to the door and removed the bolt before opening it.Dilan stood outside, a smile on his face. He looked like a different person. His hair wasn’t scattered as it was last night—nor was he as pale. He didn’t appear angry or in pain or frustrated either. Instead, there was a glint in his eyes. He looked like an entirely new person. He stepped into the room, his head turning, scanning as if looking for something. He wore a white shirt and khaki knickers.“You locked me out, huh?”“Oh… no,” I laughed nervously, pressing my palm to my forehead. “Just thought to bolt the door for extra privacy. I know it’s your house, but it’s still my room.”Dilan laughed. For the first time, it sounded genuine, not from the dark corners of his mind. Our eyes met, and we just stood there for a full minute. The clock ticked in my

MIAAfter my morning bath, I toweled dry and slipped into fresh clothes. Then I settled on the bed, my mind lost in thought.Last night, after I’d said yes to Dilan, he’d left almost immediately, telling me to rest and come down if I wanted to eat. I had a feeling he'd exited so quickly because he thought I would change my mind. But the truth was, I wasn’t even sure if I’d truly decided. Perhaps I’d given that answer simply because of the emotional whirlwind I was caught in.I felt so confused. He had opened up for the first time, yet everything still felt hard to believe. For instance, it was certain an Alpha would favor his first son. But Dilan hadn’t been shown love at all. To have stayed in the human world without his family even knowing felt utterly unreal. He was definitely stronger than me, to have endured all of that. And I pitied him so deeply. No wonder his eyes always held so much pain. No wonder Eva had spoken those words to me back at the mansion. She must have watched hi

NORAIt was nearly noon. The pack was dead quiet. It felt like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for the final calamity to strike. No one spoke, yet everyone seemed to know what the next person was thinking.I stood at Beta Logan’s funeral, head bowed as I paid my respects. The few people in attendance were scattered. Some were sobbing. Some sniffled into handkerchiefs. Others stared up at the sky like they were waiting for a sign from the Moon Goddess — silently begging for mercy.A few pack members had started to sing an elegy.Everyone was dressed in black. But the Beta’s mate, his wife, wore white. She wouldn’t stop crying. Her hands pressed tightly against her chest as she stared at his lifeless body in the open coffin. She shook violently, like her pain had taken physical control of her. Her hair fell over her face as the tears streamed uncontrollably.Despite my status as an Omega, I felt an overwhelming urge to comfort her. But it was forbidden — even her own children
