Chapter 7: Chapter Seven: The Car Accident

Although Toby was very perceptive, its appearance would scare anyone seeing it for the first time. Coupled with Maria Conrad's deliberate attempt to make Toby look fierce, Gloria Vaughan was naturally frightened by Toby, her face turning pale.

"Hey, ugly woman, what are you doing knocking on our door?" Maria Conrad looked at Gloria Vaughan, who was wearing a delicate makeup, with disdain.

Maria Conrad's insult of calling her an "ugly woman" made Gloria Vaughan forget about her fear of Toby. "You little brat, how dare you call me ugly! Do you even know what beauty and ugliness are!"

"Hey, auntie, your half-inch thick foundation can't even cover up your rough skin. I suggest you stop putting on makeup; such expensive cosmetics are just wasted on your face."

Gloria Vaughan, who prided herself on her looks, was furious at being belittled by Maria Conrad. "You little brat, say that again!"

"Woof!" Toby barked at Gloria Vaughan, baring its teeth, which scared Gloria Vaughan into taking a step back.

"Auntie, even Toby looks better than you. If you're this ugly, you shouldn't go out and scare people. What if you scare the flowers, grass, and children? Toby, see her off and close the door." Without waiting for a response, Maria Conrad turned and walked away.

Toby, looking ferocious, took two steps forward, scaring Gloria Vaughan into retreating several steps. Then, Toby turned around, went back inside, and slammed the door shut.

"You little brat, just wait and see!" Gloria Vaughan shouted at the closed door, seething with anger.

"Hey, Mom. We were indeed deceived. That slut Phoebe Conrad did give birth to the child. I saw her in person."

"I know. I'll send someone to deal with it. Don't stay there too long. Lambert Vaughan has people protecting Samuel Vaughan."

"Okay, I'm going back now."

"By the way, keep the information sealed. Don't let your mother-in-law know about the illegitimate daughter."

"Got it."

After Phoebe Conrad returned home, Maria Conrad told her how she had chased away Gloria Vaughan. Phoebe Conrad felt that Samuel Vaughan had stayed at their house long enough. Although she liked Samuel Vaughan, since his mother had come to find him, it was better to send him back.

"Phoebe, I don't want to go back!"

"Yeah, Phoebe. His family treats him terribly. Can't we just keep him here?"

"Shut up," Phoebe Conrad glared at Maria Conrad. "Little Master, it's not that I want to drive you away, but your mother has already come to find you. You should go home. If you really want to play with this stinky Maria Conrad in the future, there will be opportunities." Phoebe Conrad patted Samuel Vaughan's head.

Samuel Vaughan knew that if he continued to stay, Gloria Vaughan would cause more trouble. He didn't want Phoebe Conrad to have a bad impression of him because of Gloria Vaughan, so he nodded obediently.

"Don't worry, I'll convince Phoebe to bring you back in a few days," Maria Conrad whispered in Samuel Vaughan's ear while Phoebe Conrad was packing.

"Okay."

"Let's go. No cooking today. I'll take you both out for some good food, and then I'll send Little Master home." Phoebe Conrad finished packing and led the two out.

"Phoebe, can we go for hotpot? Little Master has never had hotpot before!"

"Really?" Phoebe Conrad was surprised that Samuel Vaughan had never eaten hotpot.

"No, I haven't."

"Oh, rich kids are so pitiful. Little Master, as your sister, I feel sorry for you for three seconds." Maria Conrad patted Samuel Vaughan's shoulder seriously.

"It's okay. Phoebe will take you. Order whatever you want."

The three of them chatted and laughed in the car, completely unaware that danger was approaching. It wasn't Phoebe Conrad's fault; she knew that Lambert Vaughan had people secretly protecting Samuel Vaughan, so she assumed the car behind them was also part of the protection and didn't pay much attention.

Just as Phoebe Conrad was about to turn, the car behind them suddenly accelerated and crashed into her car. Everything happened so fast. Phoebe Conrad instinctively turned the steering wheel, but the other car kept accelerating, crashing into the back seat, which was deformed. Maria Conrad and Samuel Vaughan were knocked unconscious by the impact.

Phoebe Conrad, enduring the pain, pulled the two children out. Passersby rushed to help, and although it was chaotic, Phoebe Conrad recognized the driver as the one who worked for Gloria Vaughan years ago.

When the ambulance arrived and took the two children, Gloria Vaughan realized her sleeve was soaked with blood.

Phoebe Conrad sat outside the emergency room, her wounds bandaged, but Maria Conrad and Samuel Vaughan were still in critical condition.

"You shameless bitch, if anything happens to my grandson, I'll make you pay!" A woman in her forties rushed over and slapped Phoebe Conrad.

"Mother-in-law, please calm down," Gloria Vaughan, with red eyes, tried to soothe the woman. She then turned to Phoebe Conrad. "What do you want? Why are you harming my son! If you want money, I'll give it to you. Why do this!"

"Huanhuan, why are you talking to this kind of woman? Call the police! If anything happens to my grandson, I won't let her off!"

Gloria Vaughan had timed it perfectly. After the accident, she went to her mother-in-law, crying and acting wronged, and brought her to the hospital.

Phoebe Conrad grabbed Lambert Vaughan's mother's hand and pushed her away.

"Phoebe Conrad! How dare you be so disrespectful to my mother-in-law!" Gloria Vaughan quickly supported Mrs. Vaughan.

"Why not? I didn't even slap her back, which is already showing respect for the elderly!"

"You... you gold-digger, you'll end up in jail!" Mrs. Vaughan, supported by Gloria Vaughan, pointed at Phoebe Conrad, her face red with anger.

*Smack!* Phoebe Conrad slapped Gloria Vaughan across the face. "Gloria Vaughan, I warn you, don't think I don't know about the dirty things you've done. If anything happens to my daughter, I'll make you pay!"

"Phoebe Conrad, how dare you hit me!" Gloria Vaughan wanted to hit back but restrained herself, thinking of Mrs. Vaughan.

"Hit you? I tell you, Gloria Vaughan, if anything happens to my daughter, I'll settle old scores and new ones. Not just you, but your wicked mother and your father, who only cares about money. Everything you've done to me, I'll repay, bit by bit. Just a slap, and you can't take it. Compared to your ruthless mother, you're far from her level!"

Phoebe Conrad looked at Gloria Vaughan with a cold smile. She would make sure that Gloria Vaughan and her family paid for the wrongs they had done to her, her grandmother, and her mother.
