LAURA’S POV

I didn’t flinch when Ivy stepped closer.

She stood just inches from me, her perfume stinging my nose, her eyes narrowed with icy precision.

“You’ve taken what isn’t yours,” she repeated, as if she were the gatekeeper to Elijah’s soul. “You don’t belong here. You never did.”

The rage that boiled in my chest was slow and steady. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I just stared her down.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I said calmly. “You don’t get to erase me.”

A twitch flickered in her lips. “You think that because Elijah kissed you, he loves you? Don’t be naive. He was drunk. Weak. Men like him always regret chasing broken things.”

“I’m not the broken one,” I whispered. “You are.”

That made her falter—just for a second. But it was enough.

“You locked Richard away,” I added, my voice rising, “because you needed someone to blame. Someone to pay for your family’s mess. You chose him... and you tried to throw me into the fire, too.”

Ivy’s mask cracked. Just a flicker. Just enough.

Laura's pov I don’t know what was louder—the sirens howling through the hospital or the thundering inside my chest. Luna was gone. I could still feel her scream vibrating in the air, like a ghost refusing to be silenced. Her name echoed in my mind, over and over, until it became a wail I couldn’t stop hearing. I clutched the blanket tighter around me, the trembling in my hands refusing to settle. “Please,” I whispered, “please let her be okay.” “Elijah!” I shouted as soon as I heard footsteps burst into the room. He looked wild—his shirt half-untucked, jaw clenched, eyes full of fear. “She took Luna,” he said, like the words were knives in his throat. “Elane took your sister.” My lungs seized. “No.” “I’ll get her back,” he swore, coming to my side, sinking to his knees. “I swear to you, Laura—I’m not letting her win. Not this time.” I stared at him. This man who once believed the worst of me. This man who now looked like he’d burn the world to put it right. “I told you not

Elijah’s POVThe scent of antiseptic lingered in the hospital corridor, but all I could focus on was the faint rustle of Laura’s blanket as she stirred in her bed.She was awake again. Barely. Her eyes fluttered open, those deep pools of wariness that once looked at me with trust now studied me with guarded distance.“Laura…” I stepped closer, heart thundering like a kid who didn’t know how to undo the chaos he caused. “Please. I know I don’t deserve it. But I’m asking anyway. Just one chance.”Her lips parted, but no words came. Her gaze shifted away, like she couldn’t bear to look at me.I exhaled shakily, my hand gripping the side of the bed. “I know what you think. That I chose Astrid. That I let you suffer while I believed lies. And I did. I believed everything that wicked woman fed me.” I clenched my jaw, swallowing the bitterness of my own stupidity. “But if I could go back... God, Laura, I would burn down the world to stop what happened to you.”Still, she didn’t look at me.H

Elijah’s POV"The Snake Behind the Curtain"“You think Scarlet’s your biggest threat? She’s just a decoy.”And then—Silence. As if the voice knew that dropping that single sentence was enough to upend everything I thought I understood.I lowered the phone slowly, staring at the screen as if it would explain the chaos now crashing through my veins.Blocked number.Of course.Whoever she was—she didn’t want to be found.Didn’t need to be.She’d already won the moment I answered the call.“Elijah?”I turned sharply. Laura was trying to push herself up from the bed, her body trembling from the effort. Her lips were pale, her chest heaving like she’d just run a marathon. But her eyes—they were awake. Alive with fear. With instinct.“What’s wrong?” she asked, her voice thin but urgent.I rushed to her side. “You need to lie back—”“Don’t do that.” She grabbed my wrist, surprising me with how tight her grip still was. “Don’t shield me. What did the caller say?”I looked into her eyes. Glass

Elijah’s POV“Untouchable”The steady beep of machines filled the hospital room, but it was Laura’s breathing I listened for. Not the rhythm of technology, not the endless buzz of doctors outside the door—but her.She looked so small in that bed, wrapped in white sheets, her skin far too pale. It was like watching a star dim before it could finish burning. And sitting beside her, clutching her hand with silent defiance, was Luna—her sister. No tears, no questions, just a steely silence only a soul too young should never know.I didn’t want to say it.I didn’t want to break the fragile calm of the room with the truth that felt like poison in my mouth. But Laura’s eyes fluttered open, her gaze hazy but sharp enough to cut through me.“Elijah...” Her voice cracked. “Tell me... is she behind this?”I sat down gently on the edge of the bed. “Yes,” I said, without flinching. “It was Scarlet.”Laura’s breath caught in her throat, and Luna’s grip on her hand tightened.“She orchestrated every

Richard’s POV The prison guard gave me a silent nod, sliding the iron door open with a groan that echoed like death itself. The stench hit me instantly—damp concrete, rusted metal, and the faintest trace of bleach failing to mask the rot. It was poetic, in a grotesque kind of way. Fitting for the woman inside. Elane. The snake. She sat hunched on the metal bench, her greasy hair clinging to her face, eyes sunken with sleepless nights. But she wasn’t alone. A figure stood before her—tall, poised, dangerous. It took me a second to recognize her from the faded photographs Laura once kept in a hidden drawer, the ones she thought I’d never seen. Mrs Jones. Retired FBI. Laura’s mother. The woman who vanished. The woman Elane tried to erase. Her eyes snapped to mine with lethal precision, as if she could read the entire history of my sins in a glance and still find Elane’s worse. “You must be Richard,” she said calmly, stepping forward with the kind of confidence that made even the

"The Devil You CreatedLAURA'S MOM'S' POV There’s a certain kind of silence that follows a threat— Not fear. Not grief. But the stunned silence of a woman who realizes too late that she never knew the enemy she created. That was the silence Elane wore when I left her in that visitation room. And I carried it with me like a trophy, tucked beneath my coat, just beneath the spot where my ribs once bruised from days chained in that man-cave. The next day, I came back. Not for justice. I already had it.But for closure. For a reckoning. “Back again?” the guard muttered, flipping through the visitor log. I didn’t answer. I didn’t need to. The fury in my eyes said it all. He led me past steel doors and glass eyes in the ceiling. Past women who screamed at walls and women who stared blankly at nothing. Past hopelessness wearing state-issued shoes. They didn’t know me. But they all watched me. And some of them—God help them—moved out of my way like they did. Elane was already t
