Thursday morning came with a cool breeze slipping through Michelle’s window net. A thin line of sunlight fell across her bed, catching her on messy hair. She looked completely wiped out, half-asleep with her head buried under her pillow like she was trying to mute the sounds of her alarm. It went off for the fifth time and rang out again.

She groaned, reached out blindly, and smacked the alarm till she hit the stop button…it rang again, two seconds later.

‘Are you kidding me…’ she muttered,

  • Hate To Love You   CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

‘Hey guys,’ Michelle smiled, noticing their awkward glare at her. She forced a smile and tried to sound friendly, but the humor they gave made it uncomfortable. A quiet tension settled over the group and it wasn’t welcoming anymore. ‘Hey guys. I’m…’ the guy, stepped forward to speak. ‘Who is this?’ Diamant cut in, his voice flat.Michelle hesitated for a second, then answered. ‘This is Jeffrey. He is my friend.’ ‘Okay… friend…?’ Jace dragged, making it obvious that ‘friend’ was not a title she could fit on Jeffrey, especially when Diamant was present.Jeffrey went on ahead, even after noticing the hard glare on Diamant’s face, to stretch his hand out for a handshake. ‘Nice to meet you.’Diamant looked at his hand, then looked at him. He didn’t move and his coldness was really discomforting. Michelle frowned slightly. ‘Come on, don’t be rude.’He leaned back instead ‘He was not invited here.’ ‘Come on, it’s not that deep. Please.’ She said.Jeffrey exha

  • Hate To Love You   CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

The evening was calm and silent, in a way it made everything feel slower – the soft rustle of trees, distant voices and the quiet hum of cars passing outside the estate.Laura walked beside Jace along the road, leading out of his villa. Diamant was with them, as they decided to walk instead of taking a car, maybe because it felt better that way. Laura had come over earlier, and surprisingly met Diamant there too. Jace came down shortly after, and now the three of them were heading out together, for the small evening hangout they had planned with the others. Jace walked close to her, his arms crossed on her shoulder as they talked in a low calm voice. ‘And yeah… Stacy won’t be coming to school for a while,’ he said.Laura glanced at him. ‘What do you mean?’ ‘She’s been suspended,’ he replied. ‘Until graduation. She can only come for exams and maybe prom night. No activities.’Laura didn’t say anything although she was glad hearing that. Somehow, that would make things te

  • Hate To Love You   CHAPTER SIXTEEN

TUESDAY.Laura came to school as usual but today, she looked different and had a warming spark in the way she talked, walked and interacted with her classmates. It was a weird positive energy that surprised her friends too. They wondered what made her this active but she shrugged and promised to tell them everything later. After Jace had left yesterday, she checked out the gifts he got her – a necklace, tops, chocolates, sweets, a new perfume which she wore today, a pretty black dress, and a letter that asked if they could be friends. Literally, she cried. It felt fake, like it isn’t the same Jace that hated her who did this, yet, it was real. And it made her feel lighter. So, she pleaded with Cynthia and asked that the case against Prisca and Stacy should be closed. But she also didn’t fail to tell her what had transpired between her and Jace that evening. Cynthia was against it, but since Laura really insisted, she had to bring down the case before the next morning. Although, Laur

  • Hate To Love You   CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Laura sat by the window, her eyes fixed on her phone as the streets of Canada blurred past. People walked along the sidewalks, the shops glowed behind glass, but she barely noticed any of it.She played Jace’s voice note again. Over and over for the tenth time since she left school. His apologies filled her ears and her eyes burned with tears no matter how hard she tried to stop it. She just let them fall, if it would make her feel alright, because she really needed to be okay once again.By the time the car pulled into the villa compound, she felt a rush of relief, making her way out of the car – straight inside and she even ignored Lisa’s greetings. Her bag slipped from her shoulder and landed on the floor as she headed straight for her room. She entered the bathroom, turning on the shower without taking of her clothes and let the chill water run down her body. She stood there, breathing slowly, trying to steady herself but her thoughts wouldn’t stop. The apology, stares, kneeling

  • Hate To Love You   CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Jace woke up around eleven, his head pounding as if someone had been knocking inside it all night. For a few seconds, his vision stayed blurry, the ceiling spinning faintly above him while his mind struggled to remember where he was and why his body felt so heavy. The smell of alcohol still clung to the air, and the memory of the previous night crept back slowly, bringing a dull ache in his chest. He groaned and sat up, raking his messy hair before standing unsteadily. The jacket he had slept in slid off his shoulders and landed on the floor. He didn’t even bother looking at it – all he wanted was to feel clean again without his aches. In the bathroom, cold water met his face, and he leaned over the sink for a moment, breathing deeply. When he finally raised his head and glanced at the mirror, he barely recognized himself. His eyes looked tired, darker than usual, his jaw tight as if he had been clenching it in his sleep. He changed into something comfortable and stepped back into the
