As I marched towards the kingdom’s clinic, I wondered if what I was doing was right. It was quite rude to conclude that going straight to the kingdom’s clinic was the immediate action to take after speaking to Kareem. What he had said about Masoma had stayed with me, very few people had been nice to me since I got to the Berg kingdom and I was also quick to realize that Masoma was part of them.

I vividly remembered the day my former roommates had beaten me after they had starved me till I had fainted. I remembered her words at the clinic that day as I drifted in and out of consciousness. I also remembered wondering what her words would mean, if it meant that she was on my side or not or if she was just waving me away. But now, I knew she was on my side and I’m suddenly realizing that she might have even spoken like that so intentionally so that Jonathan would take action but it was a speculation, she also didn’t somehow speculate that Jonathan would ask me to move to the palace, did sh

“You sent him over” Serena complained but I doubted she was complaining. A small smile crawled up my face as I shrugged.“Are you complaining that I did?” I asked and Serena immediately shook her head, “Not at all” she replied chuckling.“When I saw him what did you expect me to do? You've been sulking for the past few days now, so of course I had to ask him to do some explanation but I figured out that it was also going to be better for me to do the explanation in person” I added and Serena chuckled.“Alright, alright” She replied and I nodded, feeling affected by Serena’s bustling mood.“So what did he say?” I asked and Serena sighed, getting serious.“The war aftermath was serious, the council of elders are throwing a fit, they are attributing the win as a loss because of the way things turned out and now they are implementing more strategies against wars and everything” Serena replied and I leaned on my back.“What strategies, this is a rogue kingdom, independent of every kingdom

A lot of questions swirled in my head as I approached Jonathan’s room, I didn’t know where to start from, I didn’t know what to ask. Serena's words from the day before were yet to leave me. It was hard to believe that Jonathan had actually asked me to clean his mother’s store. Why? Was he hoping to torture me? Why would he want me to clean the store?I didn’t tell Serena that Jonathan had asked me to clean the store, I didn’t know what her reaction would be like, I didn’t even know how I was feeling either.I pushed the room door open and stepped inside, “Good morning Your Highness” I greeted him and Jonathan merely nodded at me, his face blank. My stomach churned at the look on his face, it told me that he was in a bad mood and insanity knew that I had to be careful myself. I couldn’t afford getting into his bad books anytime soon.I immediately washed my hands and walked towards the table, bringing out everything I needed to change his bandage and his herbs.“Masoma said you will be

I watched Jonathan exit the room and I walked towards the store, standing in front of the door not knowing what to do. I was feeling apprehensive whether to open the door or not. I had almost asked Jonathan what was behind the door and I had stopped myself. If he wouldn’t tell me what the store and I found out on my own, I didn’t think he was going to like it so a better option was to keep quiet and allow him to tell him myself but I have a feeling that If i stepped into the room it was going to be obvious that the room belonged to is mother.I sucked in my breadth and backed away from the door staring at the door. I dangled the rusted keys in my hand, swallowing hard. I had no idea when last they cleaned the room, if it would be dirty or how it was going to look like. Jonathan had gone for a council meeting so I knew that he was going to take a long time before he came back but something also told me that he had intentionally found an excuse to leave the room because I was going to c

I quickly packed my tools out of the room and took a glance at Jonathan. He had a blank face and an unreadable expression and I tried to think or guess about what could have gone wrong but he didn’t look like he wanted to talk.“Lock the door and take the key with you” he said in a soft voice and I glanced at him and nodded as I locked the door.“You can leave” he said as he climbed into the bed and closed his eyes. I stared at him wondering what was going on. He slowly opened his eyes and turned to me.“Do you need something?” He asked and I opened my mouth to speak and I shook my head at the end.“Nothing of such your Highness. Please rest well, I’ll prevent anyone from disturbing you” I replied as I grabbed my tools and walked out the room closing the door on my way out.I walked out of the room, my back covered in sweat. The footsteps had made me jump in fright and I was scared that Jonathan would see me. I didn’t know why I had hidden the journal back and then I secretly hoped th

I stared into space thinking about Juniper's words, “She killed herself?” I whispered and Juniper nodded. “Yes. The whole kingdom was thrown into turmoil. Our King and Queen had departed just like that” he continued explaining while I just listened.“I thought your people didn’t like the Queen?” I asked and Juniper laughed.“Not at all. The council of elders had an elder who had a daughter who wanted to marry the king so he was bitter and besides it was against the laws of the kingdom but King Avery? He bent the law for her and Queen Tera was a beautiful Queen. She was kind and thoughtful and we all love her. Our people loved the King and Queen because in every way, they were amazing and they were kind. They loved us and we loved them in return” he replied as my eyes softened.“So imagine the kingdom when they both died, a little more than one week to each other” Juniper continued softly.“The whole kingdom was thrown into the morning, we couldn’t understand it. It was a speculation in my heart and all of a sudden it had taken root. I shook the thought away as I headed straight to the clinic. I was finally starting at the clinic and I was excited for everything I would learn and do, everything that I would be there. It felt like I finally somewhat had a purpose. I wasn’t just slaving myself away here.I kept walking towards the clinic and when I arrived, I stared at the front, remembering the first two times I came by and for the first time, I was coming solely for myself. I easily found my way in. Masoma and her other clinic attendants were already working by the time I arrived and she immediately left them and came to me.“You are late” she said and I winced.“I’m sorry. I’ll be earlier” I replied and Masoma nodded.“It’s not a big deal. You can inform me if your chores are a lot and you are going to be late” she replied and I nodded.“Thank you” I said softly.“So it’s your first day and I’ll ask someone to take you around later. The fact that I had known the basics had stunned everyone in the room and all of the healers stared at me with wide eyes including Masoma and I enjoyed the feeling for a long time. I loved surprising people especially when they treated me like someone who knew nothing because I was a Princess.“How do you know them?” One of the healers asked with an unfriendly gaze, “These aren’t the usual types of herbs you would find anywhere, they are wild types” she added and I scoffed.“They are wild types so because I am a Princess but there’s no way for me to know right?” I asked and the girl immediately looked away.“You shouldn’t judge me or underestimate me please” I said turning to Masoma, “All you know about me is that I’m a princess whose father killed the father of your king and I caused my father’s death too. Asides that, you know nothing and that is enough for you not even to come to a conclusion about me” I said and the first healer snorted.“Caused your father’s death? And you can st

“Take her to her room” Jonathan’s voice cut through my tears and I raised my head to stare at him.“Why won’t you let me go?” I cried as one of the guards slowly pulled me up and dragged me away. I sobbed softly as he took me to the room and I crawled into my bed facing the wall.“Do you need anything?” the guard asked but I didn’t reply and just continued sobbing. It was a long time since I had missed home. Missed the weather, missed my father, missed my mother, missed my room and missed my life, literally everything. For so many reasons, I didn’t understand why Jonathan was keeping me here. My life was already a hell. He already killed my father to take revenge, if he wanted complete revenge, he could have killed me but he didn’t. I have suffered and wished that I was dead. I was dead inside already and it was only a matter of time before I was dead physically.“Dad” I whispered as I sobbed incessantly.I wanted to go home. I wanted to leave this place. Night had fallen before any of the women in the room decided it was time to go back to their houses. They slowly walked out of the room talking and laughing, their voices filling the ears of everyone around while the rest of them looked on with both respect and healthy envy.“So have you decided how you are going to host the bouquet?” Masoma asked and Amira shrugged.“Well I have no idea yet but we never can tell” she replied rubbing her chin. The Berg kingdom had a lot of traditions, traditions that Amira wanted to bring back, there was an upcoming bouquet where everyone in the kingdom would eat together, dance and laugh together. It was more of aftering bonding kind of festival and event and it was always richly enjoyed and Amira wasn’t about to stop that anything soon but planning it had been proving a little bit hard for her as she wanted to try something different.“You know we’ll always be available to help,” Serena said and Amira smiled.“Yeah, like I would forget that” she rep

Masooma frowned as she slowly dubbed the wound in front of her with care. She had spent a really long time trying to stop the incessant bleeding. The man in front of her had a frown on his face and even though he wasn’t saying anything, his face told her that he was showing great restraint and she knew because she had opted for an herb that stung the blood cells but was the fastest way to stop the bleeding and make it heal.“Can you be more careful?” he finally spoke and Masoma turned to him with a frown.“Careful?” she barked at him, “More like you are the one who needs to be careful because how do you use your sword to very conveniently slice yourself? Weren’t you looking?” she barked back at him and he stared at her speecles.s'I injured myself and you are blaming me?’ he questioned and Masoma was the one who was now speechless. She dropped the herbs in her hands and glared at him.“Who asked me to be careful?” she yelled at him, suddenly irritated.“You injure yourself and you wit

THIRD POVKareem’s hand slowly slid away from the door and he turned to see that the Queen was right, Serena was standing right behind her, based on how she was looking, she had obviously been tricked there as well.“Kareem” she whispered and ehr voice carried so much pain and hurt that it almost made Kareem crumble.Amira’s words echoed in his head and he didn’t know what to do. What happened between the two of them was something that no one had seen coming, it was something that neither of them could control. It had been over four months since he found out Serena's true identity and he still couldn’t wrap his head around it. Not that she deceived him, contrary to what everyone and including her believed he was way past that.He could see clearly that she didn’t look good, her voice was so small, so quiet that he could barely hear it. He knew that his actions had also hurt her and on the spot he regretted it. He had been avoiding her, refused to speak to her or even do anything with

AMIRA’S POV“Is it ready?” I asked and Elora nodded her head.“Ready my queen” she replied and I smiled mischievously.“They have to settle whatever is wrong today” I said and Elora shook her head.“Hopefully it doesn’t backfire” she commented and I snorted.“More than anything what they both need is this. He needs to listen to her, that’s how they get past what happened” I responded.Holding a crying Serena in my arms two days ago that totally broke my heart. I knew she was hurt and I also knew that Kareem was hurt and I also knew that they loved each other. I had caught Kareem throwing a few glances at Serena in the throne room during meetings each time she wasn’t looking so I knew that he didn’t hate or despise her, he was just angry and maybe there was some other emotions for him but that exactly wasn’t my business, the both of them could sort it out themselves.Serena had been a support and pillar for me, while I was a slave, in my earliest days here as a girl who loved and as Jo

THIRD POVSerena closed her eyes as Julianna kept fanning her. She was tired, metally, physically and emotionally. There were a lot of things happening with her but the most important was Kareem’s obstinate decision not to speak to her unless he had no other choice and all of her efforts had proved abortive. She didn’t think that hiding her identity from him would cause something like this and would make him so angry. It wasn’t her choice to keep or hid her identity is secret, It was something that was very important to her, it was for her safety, for the safety of Jonathan so that no one would think she was trying to usurp the throne, she was also trying to protect herself, she just didn’t know that this was what was going to happen. She had thought several times about how she was going to tell him but the time was never right and besuche f what happened to Amira, she had to come out and show her true identity and surprisingly, Amira hadn’t even bothered to hold it against her, it h

I left the Zadok kingdom with the greatest fanfare anyone could leave with. Everyone was both excited and elated to see me go, it was such a beautiful sight and by the time the carriages were rolling out from the gates of the Zadok, I had tears in my eyes and Jonathan merely held my hand tightly and tighter.“You can always come back whenever you want” he said softly and I nodded my head softly. It is very comforting to hear people tell me that I could always come back. It had been a long time since I left home but luckily for me I experienced how it felt for home to be called home. It was a sweet feeling and I loved it but luckily for me, I have more than one place to call home.I used to think that whenever I got married, I wouldn’t cry when leaving Zadok, that my parents wouldn’t cry or even be bothered but I saw my mother’s red eyes as I left, I knew her status was the only reason why she was trying her best to hold her composure and I didn’t blame her, deep down we both knew the

I was now a married woman. The feeling was too much and I just couldn’t help but keep smiling, my smile was about to tear my mouth to the back. The wedding lasted till late in the night where I and Jonathan danced so hard and we retired to our beds in the early hours of the morning. I snuggled into Jonathan’s arms as we slept as husband and wife. It was beyond my imagination, the excitement I was feeling as Jonathan’s wife.By the next morning, we were done packaging and we were about to leave. I walked back to my room to stare at the place I had lived for so many years. I didn’t know how hot it would feel to leave. Of course I knew that Zadok would always be home but leaving in this way made it look as though I wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon and it made me laugh. The Zadok kingdom held a lot of memories for me and I was going to leave those memories behind. Luckily for me, the last few months I had lived in Zadok were full of happy memories and my terrible and worse memories w
