For a moment, I just stared at his outstretched hand. Part of me wanted to ignore it after the way he had dismissed me earlier. But then I remembered that the collision had been partly my fault. I had been too distracted and wasn't paying attention to where I was going.

Taking a slow breath, I pushed aside my pride and accepted his hand.

“Ms. Vida Elene Moretti,” I introduced myself politely. “I'm a scholar here.”

His smile widened.

“Wow. That means you're intelligent.”

Heat crept up my cheeks

The silence after my words stretched longer than I expected.Samantha’s smile twitched, like she was trying to force it back into place but failing. Her friends shifted uncomfortably beside her, suddenly unsure whether this was still entertaining or if it had crossed into something they couldn’t control anymore. For a moment, I thought she would leave. But then she laughed.A short, sharp sound.“And what exactly do you think that means?” she asked, tilting her head as she looked at me like I was something amusing again.I didn’t answer immediately. I simply tightened my grip on the bucket and stood still, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing me flinch.Emilia, however, stepped closer to me, her voice low but firm. “It means you should stop before you embarrass yourself further.”That made one of Samantha’s friends scoff.“Oh please,” she said, rolling her eyes. “Look at her. She’s literally cleaning toilets. What pride is she even talking about?”Another girl laughed, nudg

The laughter hadn’t even fully faded from the hallway when a familiar group of voices echoed again, sharp and mocking.I tensed immediately.Emilia noticed it too, because her grip on my arm tightened slightly as she turned her head toward the sound. “Don’t tell me…”I didn’t need her to finish.Samantha and her group were already walking toward us, their heels clicking confidently against the floor like they owned every inch of the university. Samantha led them with a smug smile, her arms swinging casually as her eyes landed on me holding a mop near the maintenance area. Her lips curved upward almost instantly.“Well, well, well,” she said slowly, dragging each word as her gaze traveled from my face down to the cleaning supplies in my hands. Her friends snickered behind her, exchanging amused looks like they were watching a live performance made just for them.I tightened my grip on the mop handle but forced myself to stay still.Emilia stepped slightly in front of me, her posture st

That means you're intelligent.”Heat crept up my cheeks as I shifted my weight awkwardly.“Not really,” I replied with an awkward laugh.Jacob chuckled softly and shook his head.“Trust me, earning a scholarship isn't easy.”For the first time since being summoned to the guidance office, I found myself relaxing slightly. The knot in my chest loosened a little, and I almost forgot about the humiliation waiting for me.Then I remembered his question. My brows furrowed as I looked at him.“Wait,” I said. “What did you mean earlier when you asked if you

My stomach dropped when I saw him step out of that room, Khaelon Dravik. Tall, expressionless, and colder than I remembered. His eyes, so sharp and calculating, immediately locked onto me, making my heart race faster than I could control. I clutched my notebook tighter, feeling the weight of everyone’s gaze, the whispers swirling around us.He paused, as if weighing whether I deserved his attention. Then, in that calm yet terrifying voice, he spoke.“You argued and insulted the daughters of the families who pay big money to this university, the ones your kind looks up to,” he said, voice low and dangerous. “Because of that, you’re going to be punished.”My eyes widened, dread pooling in my stomach. I had only defended myself against their sneers, their mocking words. I didn’t think I’d done anything wrong. If anything, I’d only stood up for myself. But his expression told me he saw it differently.Khaelon’s gaze hardened as he took a step closer, voice low but deadly.“They pay a lot

“I’m sorry,” I whispered softly while avoiding his eyes.Jacob frowned immediately as if my apology annoyed him even more. His sharp gaze stayed on me, making my chest tighten painfully. He looked like he wanted to say something. But before he could even speak.....“Jacob! Sweetheart!”A feminine voice suddenly echoed behind me.I froze slightly before turning around.A beautiful woman wearing expensive clothes walked toward us confidently. Her long curled hair bounced perfectly behind her while the students around us immediately stared in admiration.Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around Jacob’s neck and kissed him directly in front of me.My fingers unconsciously tightened around my books.I quickly looked away. The woman then noticed me standing there awkwardly. Her perfectly shaped eyebrow lifted before she looked at Jacob curiously.“Who is she?”For a brief second, Jacob’s eyes landed on mine again.Cold.Unreadable.Then he answered carelessly.“Nobody.”The word hit

VIDA’S POVThe room went dead silent.Every pair of eyes turned toward the doorway where Khaelon stood, tall and unreadable, his broad shoulders blocking half the light from the hallway. The air shifted the second he entered, heavy and sharp like a storm rolling in.The two girls who had been mocking me instantly straightened. One of them, the blonde from the cafeteria, recovered first. Her glossy lips curved into a slow smile as she crossed her arms. “Mr. Dravik,” she said sweetly. “We were just talking.”Khaelon’s icy gaze slid toward me.For one stupid, humiliating second, my heart actually leaped.Because somewhere deep inside me, the foolish part that had admired him for years still believed he would step in again. Like he did in the cafeteria.Like maybe that version of him was real.I hated myself for hoping. The brunette laughed softly. “Your little scholar looks upset.”My grip tightened around the worn book in my hands.Emilia shifted beside me, clearly uncomfortable. “Maybe
