After I leave the coffee shop, my stomach is filled from the apple pie and latte and my strength renewed from the rest. It is a little after five pm now and I decide to tour for an hour more before going back to the hotel. I walk around the town and even visit a pawn shop, a junk shop and spend five minutes listening to a street musician sing Another love by Tom Odell, it was a beautiful rendition and I loved every second of it. Iโm trekking back to the hotel when a teenage boy around fourteen or so bumps into me nearly knocking me down the floor. โShitโ I grab the wall me to stable myself and by the time I am back in my feet, I notice Iโm missing my purse. I look around me and at the ground, thinking it might have fallen when the boy bumped into me but the ground is empty safe for a wrapper of a chocolate bar carelessly tossed. I turn around just in time to see the teenage boy that knocked into me round the corner with my white handbag in his fisted grip as he runs like the flash
Here we goโฆ He runs his eyes through me, noting the lack of pockets on my loungewear. โCookieโ His voice has a compelling warning tone. โRoman drop it, pleaseโ I beg Rather than do as I have asked, he leans even closer as if to read me properly. โDid you forget your phone at the hotel? No you wouldnโt. Did you lose it?โ Frustrated, I pour it all out. โNo, I didnโt lose it or forget it. It was stolenโ I mutter with embarrassment. โWhy were you so careless!?โ Roman scolds me so abruptly I startle and my fork slips from my grip and falls to the floor below me. I blink up at him. โWhy are you yelling at me? Itโs not my fault a little badly raised kid nearly knocked me down and robbed me of my purse. Iโm the victim hereโ I reply defensively. I expected pity or sympathy not a lecture. Roman looks downright frustrated with me. โYou shouldnโt have gone out on your own. You donโt know this place or how people here actโ He continues with his lecture. I glare at him, Iโm n
Who knew I would confess my feelings to Roman on a suburban street in Connecticut eating barbecue kebab in a local food stand? Life sure is unpredictable. But even now, there is still one thing that troubles me. One thing that I need clarity on if not, we will soon be right back to where we were, fighting. And I donโt want that so I speak up. โRomanโฆโ I start and I see him become more focused donning on a serious expression. โThere is something that has bothered me and I havenโt told you about itโ I close and toss the half eaten plate of kebab in the rubbish bin. Itโs way past sunset now and we should be on our way to the hotel before curfew but I donโt need a reason to postphone this conversation Iโm about to have with him. It is way too important. โTalk to me, Cookieโ Roman urges me on. I nod before saying, โIโve met your dadโ Roman gives me a confused look at first, โYeahโฆ I assumed you couldโve on the night of my birthday party although it is sad that I wasnโt abl
It is after ten pm at night when Roman and I finally get to the hotel. There are no students looming around and I just know it is because the curfew has kicked in. โRoman, itโs after curfew already. Donโt you think we will get in trouble if any of the staffs find us coming in now?โ I ask him, worry filling my tone. Roman glances around as we board the elevator to take us to our floor. He looks absolutely unbothered, he never is but I am. Iโm not used to breaking the rules. โItโs fine, donโt worry about itโ Roman responds in a cool tone. Okay. I think about how Cassie and Robyn must be so worried about me by now, they mightโve even tried to call my phone but I doubt the boy that stole it would have answered and informed them that the phone had gotten a new owner. A frustrated tone leaves my chest as we step out of the elevator causing Roman to glance at me. โWhat is wrong?โ He asks me. Whenever I express so much as a tiny bit of displeasure he wants to be informed of it. It is
The next day I get ready for our class tour of the Connecticut museum in sluggish movements and with sleepy eyes. By the time I had been done giving Cassie the run down of the day last night, from the coffee shop, exchanging numbers with the barrister, Matt. To getting mugged, nearly gotten run over by a speeding vehicle, Roman saving my life to us having the best heart to heart and making upโฆ it was three AM. We had to wake up by six AM so we could only get three hours of sleep hence the sluggishness. I get dressed in a cute jumpsuit and put my hair in a sleek ponytail paired with sneakers as my outfit for the day. It is a few minutes after eight AM when we leave our hotel room in a rush because a general email is sent to everyone by Mr Kevin that the last person to show up in the hall where we are meeting, will be in trouble. When we get to the hall, we see Robyn standing ahead and leaning by the wall. Facing her with their backs to us are three guys I just can tell itโs Roman,
It has been two weeks since our school trip to Connecticut and since Roman and I got back together. It has also been two weeks of spending time with him, my family and friends as well but mostly with him. Everything has been so perfect, sometimes I feel like Iโm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, for something to go wrong. Iโve relayed my fears to Roman because we really are in the no secret between us phase of our relationship, a phase I hope we never leave, and Roman did so well in putting the sad thoughts out of my mind by assuring me he wonโt let anything or anyone come between us and he wonโt let anyone hurt me as well. I have also been scarcely going to Romanโs house. I am not yet ready to face his father. It pisses Roman off that Iโve told him to give me time before we broach the topic of getting his father to apologize to me. I only go to his house whenever his father is away on a trip and I never stay over no matter how much Roman begs me to, it only aggravates
โWe are in deep trouble, Romanโ I tell Roman. I find a bit of reprieve from whatever is coming knowing that I wonโt be facing mom alone, if I would be getting a scolding, I know Roman will get one as well, I just hope it wonโt be worse than a scolding. Mom can be unpredictable. โLetโs dress up and go downstairs before she loses her patience from waitingโ I speak again, hurrying to my closet. Roman doesnโt move and I turn back to him. โRoman?โ I call out to get his attention. He jerks as if he forgot I was in the room with him. He hadnโt moved or said a word since mom appeared. Finally he says, โDo you think sheโll be angry if I escape through your window?โ He winces. He wants to leave me to deal with this alone? Like hell no. I smile a dangerous smile at him, โIf you think my mom is what youโll have to worry about if you leave me here to deal with her alone, consider yourself single from his momentโ I warn him threateningly. Instantly, Roman recovers his confidence. He starts p
On thanksgiving day, my mom had to move the dinner she had fixed for 6 pm into a late lunch instead. This morning the hospital had gotten swarmed with patients and so she was told she would have to come in for an all night shift. I was tasked with informing everyone about the change in schedule and apologizing for any inconvenience. No one took it to heart however mom keeps feeling like she has disappointed my friends. โThey donโt mind, momโ I reassure her once more as I slice the onions and garlic for the turkey dressing. She shakes her head, โI wouldโve refused the shift if I could but they need all hands on deck at the hospital tonightโ She explains again. I donโt know how else to reassure her so I just give her a smile and focus on preparing the best roasted turkey ever made. ***When we are done preparing the food for our thanksgiving dinner- now lunch, I leave the kitchen to my room to go take a shower and get dressed before our guests start arriving. Earlier I had call
Romanโs POVI have decided to have the talk with my father today. No more postponing, no more hesitating. Iโm damn tired of not being able to bring my girl over to my house because she is afraid of my father.I walk over to my fatherโs office and knock once, then twice. Iโll knock a million times until he lets me in, I know he is inside.โCome in, sonโ I hear him call out.I chuckle as I twist the handle and step in. He knows it was me just because no one else would ever interrupt him in his office. No one but me.My father sits behind his expensive mahogany desk in his huge as hell office. I hardly come here unless when absolutely necessary, like today. It reminds me of my future, that one day I will likely become a workaholic like him, spending nearly every hour, alone and working.โFatherโ I say in greeting. I always call him father, never dad for many years and weโre both used to it now.He points at the chair in front of his desk for me to take a seat and I do.I donโt waste a mom
Romanโs POVI search for Lindsey all around and everywhere on school grounds but I canโt find her. I ask our friends and her brother but none has seen her since classes before lunch and because I donโt want anyone being privy to our private business and I know how private Lindsey is, I donโt tell them whatโs happened.I want to go straight to her house and console her and fix this problem but there is still one last thing for me to settle. It is time for Rixon High athletes to train so I know where he must be at, being captain of the basketball team. I walk straight to the basketball court and when I open the double doors and enter inside, I see him. Going about his life like he didnโt just play a major role in a pathetic plan to ruin my relationship. Like hell if Iโll let him get away with it.I walk over to Collins who doesnโt see me but is focused bouncing a basketball on the courts smooth floor while going over plays with our teammates.I ignore our coach calling my name.โRoman,
CHAPTERRomanโs POVIโm on my way to the cafeteria after class to meet up with Lindsey when one of the janitors walks up to me and tells me that my girlfriend instructed him to find me and tell me to come help her out in the library because she is not feeling well.I give him a look of suspicion but consider his words, although I texted Lindsey to meet me at the cafeteria after her test she never responded. While I had concluded it was because she was in class it could be something else.Maybe something went wrong and she went to the library instead.Iโm filled with worry that I donโt interrogate the janitor further but instead take a different turn to lead me to the library. When I get to the library, I realize I donโt even know exactly where Lindsey is at because the library is so huge. I consider calling her to ask but decide to check the literature section first, she is likely to be there because it is her favorite section in the library.I get there and in fact there is a girl th
Lindseyโs POVI am walking to the cafeteria alone after writing one of the most difficult tests Iโve ever written when Collins approaches me.โHey prettyโ He greets with his signature boyish smile.I smile back but my smile is a bit restrained. I know how Roman feels about Collins and I together, even though I donโt know why as I consider Collins a good friend, but I donโt want to do anything thatโll annoy Roman so I keep my distance.โHey Collinsโ I respond and he comes and stands in front of me.โI need your help with somethingโ He tells me.Iโm confused as I donโt know what I could possibly help him with but I nod, urging him to go ahead and ask.He does, โIโve been searching for an important textbook in the library for a while now and Iโve not been able to find it, can you come and help me check?โWhat? I give him a look of confusion. Is he joking? He must be. I laugh a bit just in case then reply, โThere are librarians in the library, Collinsโ I mention the obvious. He grins but
On Monday after Christmas break, I drive my new new car to school. For the first time in months, Iโm alone in a car. Iโm driving myself rather than getting driven around like an invalid and itโs all thanks to Roman.Just like he had told me, he spoke to my mom and yesterday she even took me to shop for car accessories for my new car. Since I no longer have to worry about her feeling some type of way about Roman buying me a car, I enjoy the feeling of driving the sleekest car I have ever been in, except for Romanโs cars. When I get to school, I park my car and from the tinted glass of the windshield and windows, I can already see the students of Rixon High surrounding me, wondering who is in the car. Nearly everyone knows what everyone drives and so, a brand new expensive car such as this is bound to draw some attention.I shouldโve made Roman come with me for the first day but Iโm a big girl and I thought I could handle all the looks and whispers on my own. When I open my door and exi
My hand holding my phone shakes as I find Romanโs contact to call him. As my finger rests about an inch away from dialing Roman, I hesitate.I donโt know how to do it, not call him but tell him Iโm refusing his gift. Even though I told mom that Iโm not rejecting the gift because of her, I think I was lying. A brand new Mercedes Benz car that looks like that must cost a lot, too much. But, the thought of finally owning my own car after always having to beg Leo and ask Cassie for rides all the time feels so good. Sadly I canโt keep it. I harden my mind and call Roman. He answers on the first ring as if he has been waiting for me to call. โDo you like your car?โ Is the first thing he says to me. He sounds so anxious like he canโt wait for my answer and hopes I say yes. โIโฆ I doโ I answer after a moment of hesitation. I hear Roman breath out with relief. โThank God. I was getting worried that you didnโt like it, babeโ My throat hurts as I force out the words I know he wouldnโt li
Lindseyโs POVOn the morning of my birthday, I wake up feeling all sorts of special. The night before, I had gotten both Christmas and birthday gifts from my mom, Leo and my friends. Leo had gotten his as well but Iโm already used to sharing my birthdays with him. I gave him his gift as well. Last night, after I had unwrapped all my gifts, Roman had taken me out to dinner and while he didnโt say specifically that he was taking me out because of my birthday, I assume it was my birthday present. I loved it because the food was awesome and the company, his presence, was even better. I rise from my bed and do a little twirling on the floor, Iโm just so happy. My mom yells my name from downstairs and when I quickly rush down, I see mine and Leoโs birthday cake ready with candles on the dinning table.I smile at the sight. It has always been a tradition for as long as I can remember. Mom always bakes a blue and a pink cake for Leo and I for our birthdays, the pink one for me and the blu
I turn to my cousin with a frustrated and doubt filled look. Damon raises an eyebrow at my facial expression. โDo you want my help or not?โ I grunt, โYeah I do. What type of car do you think I should get for her?โ I ask him hopelessly. Damon shrugs, โA lambo or somethingโ He replies. My jaw drops in shock, โA Lamborghini? Are you insane!?โ My cousin snorts, โDonโt tell me you think itโs too expensive, she is your girlfriend whom I know you love so donโt tell me youโre deciding to be stingy with her giftโ I ignore him saying Iโm in love with Lindsey, I am but Iโve never told him or anyone, I havenโt even said the word to Lindsey and I should, I plan to tell her on her birthday, but that is not the point of my conversation with Damon right now. A lambo? Iโm groan out, โPlease where is Cassie and Robyn? I need them back.โ I shake my head in exhaustion. Damon gives me a glare for doubting the reasonability of his idea which is an absolutely ridiculous idea. โCall Cassie and ask h
Romanโs POVIt is a few days to Christmas and even fewer to Lindseyโs eighteenth birthday. I have been in a bind all week contemplating a birthday gift for her. I have even brought in Damon, Robyn and Cassie to help me out with ideas and while they have tried by presenting me with numerous options, Iโm not satisfied. Iโm not very good at gift giving. Having so much money usually means I buy the most expensive things for my friends and family as gifts, but with Lindsey I can not exercise the same level of indifference or carefree attitude. I want to get her a birthday gift thatโฆ has meaning. Being with Lindsey Jordan has changed me. She has shown me that money isnโt everything, I mean I always knew that but now I have lived it. The picnic date she had organized for me the night before my birthday as my birthday gift sure didnโt cost anything close to a thousand dollars if I were to wager a guess, but I wasnโt lying when I told her it was the best birthday gift Iโve ever gotten. The
