Chapter 7

Author: Perfect Timing
Everyone froze, stunned.

Adam jerked his head up, tears still clinging to his cheeks. "What did you say? How could there be no one inside?"

The police stepped aside, signaling for everyone to look into the elevator.

There were indeed dark red stains at the bottom, but there was no body.

"That's great. No one was hurt."

"Thank God. That girl must be incredibly lucky."

"If there was no one inside, then what was all that blood?"

Adam and my coworkers exchanged puzzled looks.

"Yeah, if no one was inside, how could there be blood?"

"Because I didn't die."

I walked out of the emergency stairwell and moved toward the elevator, step by step, stopping before everyone. I was completely unharmed. "I didn't die, so of course it wasn't blood. It was just strawberry jam."

Seeing me alive, something flickered across Adam's eyes. He blurted out reflexively, "You're not dead?"

My coworkers from the 33rd floor stared in disbelief.

"Emma, you're alive?"

"Emma, are you human or a ghost?"

My sharp gaze swept over every one of them.Adam's face drained of color, and panic flashed in his eyes.Zoe's smile froze, and the phone in her hand slipped, hitting the floor with a loud clang. Anna instinctively staggered backward. The other coworkers lowered their heads, too guilty to meet my eyes."What does she mean? Was this accident a setup?""That's terrifying. Is this some kind of horror workplace story?"The murmurs around us grew louder. The police sensed something was wrong and turned to me with grave expressions. "Miss, what do you mean by that? Please explain yourself clearly."Before I could speak, Adam snapped, "Emma, what nonsense are you talking about?"The coworkers chimed in at once. "Emma, we treated you as a colleague. How can you make such vicious accusations?"I let out a cold laugh. "Stop pretending. Do you really think you acted so well? Was the paranormal targeting game fun?"Come on out, my fellow interns!"As soon as my words fell, several me

A few seconds later, a deafening boom echoed through the entire building.People rushed toward the elevator entrance. Someone screamed, while someone else called the police."I see blood seeping out!""Oh my God, the elevator fell! Someone died!""That's terrifying. Who is that unlucky?""It looks like it fell from the 33rd floor. There's no way anyone survived."Voices overlapped in a chaotic wave of panic. The company building wasn't far from the police station or the hospital. Within 20 minutes, officers and paramedics arrived at the scene.Right behind them came Adam. The moment Adam saw the blood spreading out from the elevator doors, his legs gave out, and he dropped to his knees."Emma… Please save her. My girlfriend is inside. I'm begging you! Save her!"His heartbroken cries tore through the first-floor lobby. The officer in charge walked over and helped him up. "Sir, please calm down. How can you be sure the person inside is your girlfriend?"Adam was crying so h

When I woke up the next morning, Adam had already gone to work.I had spent the entire night thinking it over and had decided to resign. Adam didn't fully believe my claim that the company's equipment was targeting me, but he respected my decision to quit.I took the resignation letter I had written and was about to head to the office to handle the paperwork when my landlady showed up.She handed me a statement. "Emma, this is the breakdown of this month's rent, utilities, and gas. Take a look. If everything is correct, transfer the payment to me."I took the paper. The total came to one thousand dollars. When I thought of the one thousand dollars left in my account, I hesitated and asked, "Ma'am, could you give me a few more days? Right now, I only have—"Before I could finish, she cut me off. "Emma, I'm not trying to lecture you, but when you're young, you should be working hard. How can someone your age not even have one thousand dollars?"After that thinly veiled jab, she co

After Mr. Tucker said that, I had no choice but to endure the freezing air for the entire morning. I shivered nonstop, my teeth chattering. When noon finally arrived, I went downstairs to buy some cold medicine. As I passed the coffee machine, I barely raised my hand. I wasn't even touching it when it suddenly sprayed scalding coffee at me, just like in my last life.I tried again and again, cautiously reaching out. Every time my hand got close, the machine would fire with uncanny precision, splashing boiling coffee onto the back of my hand.On the verge of losing my mind, I stepped aside and watched. Other coworkers walked past the coffee machine without any problems at all.Seeing scene after scene where I was the only one targeted and rejected, memories from my previous life flooded back. The toilet flush had hated me, too. Whenever I pressed the button, it would either refuse to work at all or suddenly erupt with violent force, splashing water and filth all over me.Coworkers

After the clock-in issue was temporarily resolved, I walked to my workstation. The moment I sat down, a chill crawled up the back of my neck.I jerked my head up and looked at the air vent above me. Cold air blasted straight down, and I sneezed several times in a row.Anna Underwood, who sat nearby, turned at the sound. After glancing at what I was wearing, she spoke with the same well-meaning concern she had shown in my last life. "Even if the office has air conditioning, it's easy to catch a chill on the way to work. You should dress a bit warmer."I sniffed, forcing myself to endure the cold. "Anna, do you feel like the office temperature is a little low today?"She reached up and tested the air above her own seat. "It's warm. It's always this temperature. Besides, this is a central system. Every vent should be the same."The moment she finished speaking, I stood up. "Anna, could I trouble you for a few minutes? Can you sit at my desk and help me check the temperature?"She l
