Chapter 6

Author: Faye Z
Ian's POV

Three days passed, and Ian was still waiting for Fiona to come back. He sat in his office, staring at the necklace she'd left behind.

A text came in from a mutual friend.

He opened the message and was stunned to see footage of Fiona's wedding.

Fiona was standing on the stage in a couture gown.

Next to another man.

Her smile was confident and dazzling.

The phone slipped out of Ian's hand.

The calm he'd forced for days shattered.

The color drained from his face, leaving him ashen.

  • He Delayed Our Wedding, So I Married My Childhood Rival   Chapter 8

Six months after the wedding, I officially took over the family company without a hitch. My years of experience gave me a keen sense of the market.Under my leadership, the company kept growing.Hayden still ran Quinn Holdings. But he turned over all his earnings and shares to me.He often said I could do whatever I wanted and that he'd always have my back.Little by little, my feelings for him began to change too.In our second year of marriage, just like he'd promised, he invited Ian to our anniversary party. He just made sure Ian wasn't seated with Rex.When I saw Ian again, I barely recognized him.The confident, high-flying guy was gone. He'd become quiet and withdrawn, and he looked years older. There was nothing left of the industry hotshot he used to be.He just stood quietly in a corner. His eyes, heavy with regret, never left me.When a former coworker came over to toast me, she quietly filled me in on how Ian had been doing. After his company bailed him out, Sophie went look

Five days after the banquet, I went home to my parents' house. My assistant called to tell me Ian's company had decided to post his bail.Hayden had asked her to find out what I wanted to do about it.I picked up my cup and took a sip of coffee."Leave it alone."I'd just hung up when the front door swung open.Sophie walked in, her expression grim. When she saw me, she forced a smile. "Fiona, you got married and didn't even tell me?""I figured seeing me get married might be too much for you."Her smile froze."Fiona, don't be silly."Ian and I both really miss you. Especially Ian..."I set my coffee cup down on the table, cutting her off."I'm done with Ian. There's no need to bring him up around me anymore."Is there anything else you want to say?"Sophie's expression slowly darkened, and she put a newspaper down in front of me."Fiona, I want to ask you something."Is what the paper says true?"Were Dad's shares in the company transferred to you?"I glanced at the paper."Is there

She must have blocked his number.Only then did he believe Fiona. When she'd said it was over, she hadn't been bluffing to force his hand. She'd really married someone else.Fiona's POVThe next time I saw Ian was outside a banquet hall.I'd just finished giving a speech as the company's incoming CEO and newest board member. My father was still running the handover, which would take six months.A cold wind blew. Ian stood in the shadows ne

Ian stared at the invitation, and his face darkened."Fiona, how many times have I told you I hate it when you and your family pressure me to get married?"And now you've gone so far as to print wedding invitations to force my hand? You really think you've got me cornered?"My hand paused as I reached for the invitation. Then it clicked, and I let out a humorless laugh. But Ian didn't give me a chance to explain."That trick won't work on me."Walk away from the deal with Mr. Kessler right now. Then go home and tell your parents to cancel the wedding."Otherwise, don't blame me when your whole family ends up humiliated on the wedding day."I put the invitation back in my bag.I studied the face of the man I'd loved for ten years.Any urge I had left to explain disappeared. There were truths he would never understand through words alone. He'd have to see the truth for himself.I turned, knocked, and walked straight into Robert's office. After we discussed business, I handed Robert a wed

When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed. There was no one with me.The nurse said a hot guy, about five-eleven and all legs, had rushed into the ER carrying me in his arms.Five-eleven, huh.It has to be Hayden's... bodyguard. After all, Hayden was already six-two in high school.Looks like he's still busy planning the wedding. Thanks to Hayden's man getting me to the hospital in time, the cut wouldn't leave a scar. The young nurse marveled at my luck. "It would've been such a shame if you'd been left with a scar on such a pretty face."Ian, on the other hand, had been completely fooled by Sophie, and he still thought he was the good guy. What an idiot.I stopped caring about them, but some news still reached me.Sophie hadn't been hurt at all.And just as I'd predicted, the dinner she planned had offended Robert. He'd cut ties with my former company and taken a large number of influential New York clients with him.So I contacted Robert and arranged a meeting. While I was at it, I'd h

Sophie covered her cheek and looked at me, her eyes red."F-Fiona..."Ian stepped in front of her almost instinctively. He stared at me, anger burning in his eyes."Fiona, have you lost your mind?"I ignored him and kept my eyes on Sophie."Did you tear up my certificates?"She avoided my eyes, her voice betraying her guilt."What certificates? I don't know what you're talking about."I set a box full of shredded certificates in front of her.Ian stared at them, stunned. He knew how hard I'd worked to earn those certificates. For years, I'd worked during the day and studied at night.I'd nearly passed out more than once. Now he saw how pale I was. Some of his anger faded."Hey, calm down."He came over and reached for my hand.I stepped back, out of reach.A flicker of irritation crossed his face when his hand closed on empty air."Your certificates were in the safe. Even I don't know the code."How could Sophie possibly know it?"I looked at Sophie hiding behind Ian and smiled.Of cou
