Last Christmas—in my past life—I was on vacation when the call came. It was Lucy, the family’s new pet capo, and she was in a panic. She’d blown the deal with the Colombians, she said, and now they were threatening to make us pay. I had to rush back and clean up the mess. I saved the deal, but it still cost us a shipment of hardware. And then Lucy, the one who caused the whole mess, pointed the finger straight at me. “It was Madeline! She gave me bad intel! She must’ve set me up!” The truth? The deal went south because she mouthed off to the Colombians and pissed them off. But Henry, the Godfather I’d served loyally for years, didn't want to hear my side. He just branded me a traitor. He kicked me out of the family and put the word out to every outfit that I was a rat. I had a price on my head. I died in some gutter, my body left for the dogs. When I opened my eyes again, it was just before that Christmas. This time, I walked straight into Henry's study and handed over my family signet. "I want out." This time, I can’t wait to see who’s left holding the bag with the pissed-off Colombians.

He Fired Me. Now His Empire Is Burning Chapter 8
Henry completely broke. He just shook his head, muttering, “Impossible… you’re lying…”But he already suspected it. He just didn’t dare admit it to himself—admit that he had destroyed the entire Corleone family and cast out his most loyal advisor for a Russian spy. After leaving the Vitiello manor, Henry went insane. He blamed all of his failure, his humiliation, and the destruction of his family on Lucy’s betrayal. He went to the black market and hired a crew of mercs with a reputation for cruelty. He didn’t want Lucy to have a quick death. He wanted her to suffer. One night, as a torrential rain poured down on New York, Lucy was finally cornered. After a week of desperate hiding, the mercs trapped her in a dark, wet dead-end alley. Her once pretty, innocent face was now a mask of terror and despair. She tried to buy them off with her body and her money, but these were killers for hire. They weren’t interested.Bang! Bang! Bang!Riddled with bullets, Lucy collapsed into a filthy puddl

“Madeline, my child, do you think we should see this fallen Mr. Corleone? After all, that shipping dock is the only card he has left to play.”A sly smile touched my lips. “Of course we should see him, Don. An old friend has come all this way, and with such a generous ‘gift.’ How could I miss the chance to catch up?”The meeting was set for that afternoon in the manor’s grand reception hall.Henry was led in by the butler. In just a few days, he looked like he had aged ten years. His once perfectly tailored suit now hung loosely on his frame. His eyes were sunken and bloodshot. The confident swagger of the Corleone Don was completely gone. The moment he saw the old Don, Henry practically ran towards him, his back bent low, his face plastered with a sycophantic grin. “Don Vitiello, it’s a true honor to meet you! As you know, the Corleone family has always hoped to build the strongest of friendships with you.”The Don just gestured coolly to the sofa across from him, telling him to sit.

A few days later, during a conversation with Don Vitiello, he brought up the Corleone family.“Word from New York is the Corleones took a massive hit in a shootout with the Colombians. They lost nearly half their turf, more than half their core crew is dead or wounded, and Henry himself got shot. The Corleone family is nothing but an empty shell now.”I wasn’t surprised by the news.“He got what he deserved, Don,” I said with a slight smile. “A boss who’s all greed and no brains is bound to run his family straight into the ground.”The old Don nodded in approval, but then his expression grew a little more serious. “However, it seems this Henry isn’t ready to go down without a fight. After failing to get help from other families, he’s started spreading a rumor throughout the North American underworld.”I raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And what’s he saying?”“He’s saying you betrayed the Corleone family. Claiming that when you left, you intentionally leaked the family’s core secrets and trade r

Listening to Henry’s near-hysterical screaming on the other end of the line, I stood on a sun-drenched terrace in Sicily and let a smirk play across my lips.“Henry, I think you’ve got two things wrong.”“First, the intel I gave you was perfect. The Colombians’ bottom lines, their deal-breakers—I wrote it all down in the handover file. Second, my handover is complete. Whether the Corleone family lives or dies is no longer my problem.”“The deal falling apart is Lucy’s problem. You should be calling her, not bothering me,” I said with a cold laugh.“Her? That damn bitch!” Henry’s voice filled with murderous rage at the mention of Lucy. “The second the deal went south and the guns came out, she vanished! I can’t find her anywhere! Madeline, you listen to me. You will get your ass back to New York and clean up this mess, right now! That’s an order!”“An order?” I let out a low laugh, as if I’d just heard the funniest joke in the world. “Henry, are you still half asleep? Let me say it agai

Seeing the malice on their faces, I couldn't help but let out a sarcastic laugh.Five years ago, the Corleone family was just another nickel-and-dime street crew, getting squeezed by the big players until they had nowhere left to run.On a rainy night, Henry, covered in blood, knelt before me, grabb

With the ring on her finger, Lucy was drunk with power and couldn't wait to rub it in my face.“Madeline, I have to say, that ‘soft diplomacy’ crap of yours is ancient history.” She clicked over to me on her stilettos, looking down her nose at me. “This is a new era. You were always so timid, always

I placed an onyx signet ring on the desk. The mark of the Corleone family’s consigliere.“I’m out, Godfather,” I said, my voice calm.Henry froze. For a split second, I saw a flicker of relief—no, joy—in his eyes.“Out? What kind of joke is this, Madeline?” He frowned. “The family is in the middle o
