Chapter 4

Author: Pantaloon
After I left the hospital, I booked the abortion for the next day.

Around ten, just as I was crashing in my apartment, Desmond called.

"There's still some of your stuff here. My girlfriend doesn't wanna see it. Come get it."

I kept my voice chill. "Just toss it. None of it matters."

Anything real? I'd already taken. What was left was either junk or haunted by him.

He scoffed. "Why should I deal with your crap? Get over here or I'll report you for trespassing and theft."

I rubbed my temples. He was exhausting.

When I got to the house, I saw our wedding photos and other photos with five years of his fake smiles.

Desmond grinned. "We looked like we were in love. Who knows, maybe I'll fall for you again."

I forced a smile, but yeah, no. I couldn't play along.

I grabbed a pair of scissors and started slicing through the photos.

Desmond's face changed. He lunged to stop me.

I didn't flinch. The scissors nicked his hand.

He yelped, eyes wide. "You stabbed me with scissors!"

I met his gaze and smiled. "You're the one who reached for it."

Juliet stormed in, full drama. "Rhea Wayne, how cruel can you be? Desmond forgot you, and now you're trying to kill him? Anyone who marries you is cursed!"

Her words hit—just for a second.

But I kept cutting.

Once every photo was split, I grabbed the halves with my face on them.

One last glance to make sure I didn't leave anything behind.

"There's nothing of mine here. Don't ever call me again."

***

Next morning, I went in for the abortion.

Lying on the bed, getting wheeled into the OR, I spotted two people tangled up nearby.

Under a blanket. In birthday suit.

Juliet's voice was all sniffles. "This is your fault, Desmond. You had to try that stuff. Now look—we're both stuck here. It's so embarrassing."

Desmond couldn't stand girls crying.

But this time? He held her close, kissed her forehead like they were some tragic romance couple.

"Relax," he whispered. "Blanket's on. No one can see. Isn't this kinda hot?"

Gross.

I turned my head.

The doctor leaned in. "Ms. Wayne, are you sure you want to terminate the pregnancy?"

Eyes shut. "Yeah. Do it."

Just as they pushed me through the OR doors, I heard Desmond freak out behind me.

"Rhea? Was that you? Are you getting an abortion? You're really pregnant? That baby's mine—I'm not letting you do this!"

What were the ex and new gf doing banging in an abortion clinic? That scene is a little too far fetched.

  • He Forgot Me, I Deleted Him   Chapter 8

What I didn't see coming? Desmond, the same guy who was about marrying into the Kemp family, showed up at my door two days later like it was no big deal.He was limping. The moment he saw me, he just lost it."Rhea, I finally found you. Do you know how much I've been through? I broke my leg jumping outta the villa!"I stared at him, stone cold."Who even are you?"That wrecked him.He limped toward me, reaching for my hand. I stepped back like it was nothing."Mister, keep this up and I'm calling the cops."His eyes were wild, voice cracking as he yelled, "I don't believe you forgot me! Rhea, you said forever! I only forgot you because of that temporary amnesia—but I remember now! I know you're the one I love!"I laughed. Hard. What a clown. Acting like some tragic lover.Would he have "remembered" so fast if I hadn't walked away for good? Doubt it. He'd still be playing house with Juliet and her stupid little props."Yeah, no," I said. "The 'forever' I mentioned? That exp

After I left the apartment, I went straight back to my hometown. The second my parents saw me, they lit up—voices shaky with emotion."Rhea? What are you doing here? Didn't you and Desmond go on your honeymoon after the wedding?"I collapsed into my mom's arms. They'd never been thrilled about the marriage. They knew someone like me—small-town girl marrying into money—was never gonna be treated right. But I thought love could fix it.Biggest joke of my life."Mom, I'm not getting married. I just... want to stay here with you."Her arms tensed around me.She didn't say a word—just stroked my hair gently.Even my dad, who barely ever spoke, chimed in."Then don't. We never took a cent from them anyway. You never have to get married. I'll take care of you."Tears burned behind my eyes. That night, after dinner, I sat on the couch checking my phone. It buzzed—an unknown number.I hung up without thinking.Desmond's number had been blocked long ago.I already had a good ide

I squinted, watching security haul Desmond out.Still clinging to that lame "amnesia" excuse. The online noise picked up after that, keeping him too busy to bug me.Time blurred.Once I got discharged, I headed straight to my new apartment. What I didn't expect?Desmond parked outside the building, holding a bouquet of camellias."Rhea, I think I remembered something. It's your birthday, right? I'm your boyfriend—I wanted to celebrate."He grabbed a strawberry cake off the ground, smug as ever.I already knew what this was: another one of his tactics.Same old game—keep me hanging until he got bored, then pull the "I remember everything" card when it suited him... and waltz back in like he was ready to play husband.I dodged the flowers and the cake."Mr. Arlington, you've got the wrong girl. No reason I'd take gifts from a stranger."His face dropped. He stared at the bouquet, then the cake."No way. You've always loved camellias. And strawberries. I've given you this c

I didn't respond.Right before the OR doors shut, I saw Desmond totally losing it—looked like he was about to jump out of bed.But he didn't even make it up before Juliet clung to him.Tears streaming, voice all wobbly. "Desmond, don't move—it hurts so bad! You must've misheard. That wasn't Rhea. If she was really pregnant, she'd be demanding a wedding, not an abortion!"A nurse rushed over, trying to calm him down. They were still stuck together, thanks to whatever stupid stunt they'd pulled. Separating them too fast could actually cause damage.***After the surgery, they moved me to recovery. The second I turned my phone on, it buzzed like crazy—nonstop calls and messages. Most were from Desmond.First time he'd blown up my phone since the whole fake amnesia act.[Rhea, where are you?][Please answer. Where are you?][Are you at the hospital? Are you getting an abortion?][Answer me. I already agreed to be your boyfriend. Why won't you respond?!]I laughed, cold and d

After I left, I crashed at a hotel for the night.Next day, got an apartment with a realtor's help.I thought that was the end of Desmond. Then I found out I was pregnant.I hadn't even eaten, but I was already throwing up.At the hospital for a checkup, I ran straight into Desmond—and a bunch of his siblings and cousins.Tried to walk past, but my feet froze. They circled me, all smug smiles and nasty stares."You really thought some country girl like you could marry into our family?""Back then, who knows what spell you put on Desmond. He even cut us off for you. Good thing he finally snapped out of it.""Wait—is that an ultrasound in her hand?"Yeah. They never liked me.Not since Desmond picked me over them. One of them snatched the report from my hands and laughed."Rhea Wayne, seriously? Desmond dumps you, and now you're faking a pregnancy?""Still clinging to our family, huh?""As long as we're around, forget it. Desmond's locked in with the Kemp heiress now. You
