Chapter 4

Author: Tempest
Before opening the door, Charlotte pointed her finger at my forehead with a warning. "If you get back together with him this time, I'm seriously cutting you off for good."

I laughed and agreed. Only a fool would take him back.

My father was the one who opened the door.

Ethan had brought several bags and packages, which my father promptly threw out. Undeterred, Ethan kept picking them up and trying again.

After several rounds of this, neighbors from several doors down came out to watch the spectacle.

Only after Ethan repeatedly apologized in a subdued voice did my father, still looking grim, finally let him in.

Once inside, Ethan headed straight for the kitchen, making himself at home.

My parents exchanged bewildered glances, while Charlotte muttered "shameless" under her breath and started texting furiously.

Watching his back, I felt a mixture of emotions.

It was not until our fifth year together that our relationship had begun to feel stable.

That was when we exchanged anniv

  • He Gave My Wedding Dress Away   Chapter 10

The elevator stopped at the first floor, where we ran into Charlotte. The moment I saw Charlotte, I let go of Seth's hand.I did not mind if it was anyone else, but in front of Charlotte, I felt somewhat awkward about the fact that I had "snagged" her brother.Fortunately, Seth only gave me a quiet glance before striking up a conversation with Charlotte about other topics.I chimed in occasionally. As we chatted, Charlotte nudged Seth aside to show me some gossip on her phone.Seth suddenly spoke up. "Char.""What?" Charlotte replied impatiently.Seth asked, "Do you know what I did today?"Charlotte looked bewildered. "Do I have to know it?"Remembering the document Seth had "accidentally" dropped earlier, I sensed trouble brewing and was about to interrupt.Nonetheless, Seth had already pulled out the marriage certificate. He examined it under the elevator light, completely capturing Charlotte's attention.Meanwhile, I covered my face. That was when I heard Charlotte's sh

  • He Gave My Wedding Dress Away   Chapter 9

Walking home, I kept feeling a tickling sensation on my fingers. When I glanced over, I caught Seth's hand stealthily reaching toward mine, then quickly withdrawing. His hands were large with slender wrists. The veins were faintly blue, and stood out just right. They were exactly my type. After several tentative attempts, he noticed me watching. He turned his head away, and his ears quickly turned red.He casually stuffed his hands into his pants pockets.Gosh. This guy's ears turned red so easily.I slipped my hand into his pocket and grabbed his hand.He did not dare look at me, but secretly gripped mine in return. We walked awkwardly like this all the way to our building. When Seth saw who was standing by the entrance, his face fell.Ethan stood there holding a bouquet, his gaze lingering on our joined hands.I instinctively started to pull away until Seth tightened his grip on my hand. That was when I remembered that Ethan was not anyone to me anymore.Ethan looked som

After Ethan had completely disappeared, I beckoned to Seth."Come down now and stop acting. It's dangerous."Seth's energetic face turned bright red with embarrassment, and he climbed back over the railing with surprising agility.Charlotte's eyes widened. "You had it figured out all along?"I laughed. "Not from the very beginning — just from when he started reciting his lines like a robot."Charlotte glared at her brother, puzzled. "Then why did you play along with us?"I glanced at Seth. "If I hadn't gone along with it, how would you have ended the scene? Was he really going to jump?"Charlotte coughed, seemingly caught off guard.I put my arm around her shoulders reassuringly. "I know you meant well, and I appreciate it. This time, I really, absolutely will not get back together with him."She looked uncomfortable. "As long as you know what's good for you."As Charlotte and I were about to leave the rooftop, Seth suddenly said from behind us, "Not all of it was acting."C

Seth glanced at Ethan. "That's one year longer than he's known you."Ethan looked completely bewildered, having no idea what was happening.Seth continued, "I was prepared to confess my feelings to you, but you told me you already liked someone."I was momentarily stunned. He was talking about the year when Ethan and I had just gotten together.Seth had gotten into my university and often asked me for advice. Ethan had been jealous numerous times.Later, I used my busy coursework as an excuse to distance myself from Seth. Thinking about this now made me feel a twinge of regret.Did Ethan truly not understand boundaries between people? No, that was not it. He had simply been constantly testing my limits.Seth's voice carried on in the wind, gradually becoming more natural."I thought he would make you happy, so I watched silently as you prepared to marry him. However, he humiliated you at the wedding, and you're still considering making up with him!"His voice grew more agitat

I then returned home, briefly explained things to my parents, then retreated to my apartment where I slept until late morning. When I woke up, I unsurprisingly saw news of Anna's successful surgery on social media.I gave it a like as I was genuinely happy for her. However, I had barely taken two bites of breakfast when Ethan showed up at my door. The apartment my parents bought for me was right above theirs, with the Sanders siblings — Charlotte and Seth — living next door. The moment Ethan rang my doorbell, Charlotte heard it too. Then, after some commotion came the sound of arguing and I opened the door to find Ethan soaking wet and looking utterly miserable.Seeing me, he managed to suppress his anger. He smiled at me as he said, "I brought you breakfast."I glanced at the food in his hand. "Has Anna eaten yet?"Ethan sighed. "I know I handled this badly. Anna's surgery is over now, so there's nothing standing between us anymore. Can you forgive me?"His words were earnest

Anna clearly had not expected me to come. The moment Ethan approached her bedside, she eagerly threw herself at him in a bear hug. Ethan caught her almost reflexively. The concern and worry in his eyes could not be faked. Then Anna planted a loud kiss on his cheek.Only after Ethan stood there awkwardly, neither embracing her fully nor letting go, did she notice me standing in the doorway.I had just put away my phone after sending the video of their little kissing and hugging scene to Anna's father.I had also forwarded him a package containing Anna's threatening messages to me and the videos she had sent from our wedding. The Bedford family was overall well-educated with decent moral standards. From our first meeting, I could tell they were good trees that had produced bad fruit.Anna's parents had not appeared at the wedding, confirming that they were not aware of what was happening. So how could I not let them see how their precious daughter had humiliated someone else?A

The lengthy ceremony finally ended. The door to the waiting room opened, and Ethan stood in the doorway. He pressed his fingers against his temples, looking strained. "I'll make this up to you. I'll also go explain things to your parents..."I cut him off. "Don't bother. They're my parents, not yours.""They have nothing to do with you anymore, so don't bother," I continued. He looked stunned.Ethan's face showed exhaustion as he said, "Don't say things you don't mean. You know Anna's illness has been hard on her. What's the harm in making a small concession?"Even now, he still believed he had done nothing wrong. He was still defending Anna. For a moment, I did not know what else to say to him."Think of it as just anger if you want," I said, "Today I'll pack my things and move out. I'll have someone sell the apartment. If you don't want to sell it, just transfer my family's portion of the money to my account."As I finished speaking, I spotted my parents standing not far aw

Perhaps the air conditioning temperature in the waiting room was set too low, as I felt increasingly chilled to the bone the more I thought about it.When Ethan reached for my hand, I yanked it away.I looked up at him steadily. "Get the wedding dress back. I don't want her wearing it."Ethan frowned. "Don't be difficult, Lou. It's just a ceremony. We can have ours anytime."The downturned corners of his mouth and the irritation in his eyes cut me deeply.I said to him, "The dress is one thing, but if she wants to hold a wedding ceremony, does the groom have to be you?"Was Anna merely making outrageous demands using her serious illness as leverage, or had he been emotionally detached all along and was just looking for an excuse?Perhaps stung by my bluntness, his expression darkened.Ethan pulled away from me and walked toward the door, tossing his final words over his shoulder."Dating you has become completely exhausting. You never consider my dignity and just always insist
