Chapter 1

Author: Living Beings
I looked at the woman standing outside the car. She had slightly curly hair that fell to her waist, and her makeup was exquisite. She had also doused herself in so much perfume that I felt like I was choking on the overwhelming scent.

She didn't look poor at all.

My husband, Sean Clifford, looked a little troubled as he glanced at me. "Sorry, but my wife and I are on our honeymoon trip. We just got married, so it would be inconvenient for us to bring you along."

The woman's demeanor turned even weaker and vulnerable, and she looked like she was on the verge of tears. "I won't bother you, sir. I'll just sit quietly in the backseat and keep to myself.

"I've been waiting here for more than three hours. Your car is the only one that has passed by in that time. I won't know what to do if you don't help me. I don't want to spend the night here by myself."

I looked at the road we were on. It did look a little desolate.

Sean turned to look at him. "The sun is going to set soon, Maria," he said in a softened voice. "Leaving a young woman like her out in the wilderness like this…"

He let the rest of his sentence trail off into silence, but I understood what he was trying to say. "Get in the car," I told the woman.

A joyous expression appeared on the woman's face. She was about to pull open the backseat's door when she suddenly paused. She then ran over to the driver's side, where Sean was sitting. "I've had motion sickness ever since I was a child, sir. Can I sit in the front passenger's seat?"

Anger began to simmer within me. I assumed that Sean would reject her request and was caught off guard when he looked at me and suggested, "You should sit in the backseat, darling. We should help her as much as we can since we've decided to lend her our aid.

"We can't just stand by and do nothing if we already know that she gets motion sickness, right?"

I wondered if he had forgotten that I had taken some motion sickness medicine right before getting into the car. I inhaled deeply. I felt incredibly upset, but I still got out of the car.

The woman looked at Sean again and said, "It's really cold, sir. Can you lend me your jacket? I forgot to bring one with me."

"I have one. You can wear mine," I said as I offered my jacket to her.

However, the woman ignored me completely. "Is that okay, sir? I promise to keep it clean."

Sean didn't hesitate for even a second when he stripped off his jacket. "What are you saying? I don't think you're dirty. Here, go ahead and put it on. It'll be bad if you catch a cold."

"You're such a good man, sir. Why would someone like you get married so young?"

The woman then glanced at me. She didn't look apologetic in the slightest when she continued, "You won't get angry at me, will you, ma'am? I'm just joking around. I don't mean anything by it. I just want to praise your husband for being so nice."

I bit down on my lip as I listened to her blatantly insincere words. I was about to retort when Sean suddenly cut in, saying, "Of course, she's not angry. She's not that petty, right, darling?"

I was struck by the realization that something was amiss. Just then, I received a notification that the thread I had been reading earlier had a new update.

"I've successfully picked up my mistress. That stupid woman doesn't suspect a thing."

The new message immediately received hundreds of replies.

"Oh my God."

"You're truly a man amongst men," someone said, adding a sticker of a thumbs-up with his reply.

"Do you have the guts to be even more intimate with your mistress?"

As the other men urged him on, the person who posted the original post replied, "Just you wait."

"I love him," I had said at that time. "That is the reason."I had been such a fool.Sean's eyes were reddened and swollen as he explained, "I saw everything. You begged the doctor to hide the truth just to protect my pathetic pride."I glanced at him before saying, "You know, Sean, I really loved you so much. You were a part of all my life's plans. I always dreamed that the three of us would live a happy life together once I gave birth to our child."I was always looking ahead and carefully planning our future. I had even mentally prepared myself, even if we ended up being unable to conceive a child. I thought that as long as I was with you, I wouldn't mind growing old together—even if it was just the two of us."Sean's eyes reddened even more. He grabbed my shirt, pleading, "I'm begging you, Maria. I've really learned my lesson. Please forgive me this one time. We'll definitely have a child together. We'll have everything, and we'll also live a happy life together.""It's too l

A few moments later, someone began banging furiously on the door."I know that I was wrong, Maria. Felicity was fired from her job because of what happened. She doesn't dare to leave the house and just stays home all day."I'm also in a similar situation. My boss told me that he's going to fire me if I don't take care of this issue properly. Can you please clear my name for me? I'm begging you."I opened the door and stared at Sean mockingly. "Clear your name? But you did do all of that, didn't you? You're the one who cheated, right?"After the relatives and I confronted Sean and Felicity, someone had managed to dig up the video of Sean and Felicity participating in the couple's challenge. It was the main reason why Felicity had been fired. Everyone in the comments section was criticizing and insulting them."Or are you trying to tell me that you didn't participate in a couple's challenge with Felicity even though you had a wife?"Sean's face darkened. "What do you want, Maria? W

"We entrusted Mary to you, only for you to mistreat her like this. Take that mistress of yours and get out right now!" Bethany shouted. The relatives surrounded Sean and Felicity.Felicity was so scared by the sudden turn of events that she curled into a ball in a corner of the room. Meanwhile, Sean eventually lost his balance as the relatives shoved him around, collapsing to the floor in a heap.I stared down at him, asking, "Do you think you have the right to touch this child?"Sean scrambled to his feet and said, "No matter what happened, the child also belongs to me. Just let me take a look at it. It's all I'm asking for."I let out a hollow laugh. "It was indeed your child before. But now... it's not."Felicity ran over and hugged him. "It's okay, Sean. If she doesn't want to have your baby, I'll carry yours instead."I laughed and looked at her. "Do you know why I only managed to get pregnant once, even though Sean and I have been together for such a long time? Take a gues

I pulled out the divorce papers and placed them in front of Sean. "I'm tired. I don't want to talk about this anymore. Sign this," I told him. "We'll go our separate ways. We won't have anything to do with each other either. Also, both houses belong to me, so please get out right now."Panic flickered in Sean's eyes when he saw the divorce papers. "No, I won't sign it. How could you bear to divorce me? I don't believe you'll actually go through with it."He hastily let go of Felicity and tried to grab my hand, but I pushed his hand away."Don't touch me with your filthy hands."Sean glared at me. "I only made a small mistake, Maria. Why do you want to divorce me over something so insignificant?"A small mistake? It seemed that he considered his infidelity nothing but a small mistake.I barked out a condescending laugh. "A small mistake, you say? Well, allow me to share what 'small mistakes' you've committed."Weren't you the one who forced me to sit in the backseat for Felicity'

Feeling amazed at Sean's shamelessness, I retorted, "If I didn't bring our relatives here, how would they know about you bringing your mistress to our new home?"Felicity let out a weak shout when Bethany grabbed her. "Save me, Sean!"Unwilling to tolerate her behavior, Bethany slapped Felicity hard across her face. "How dare you still call him so openly when we caught you red-handed? Watch me beat the crap out of you, you bitch. I've never met such a shameless woman in my life. How dare you have an affair in someone else's home?"Sean stood before Felicity, shielding her behind him. "We're not having an affair. We just happened to meet on the road."He looked at me before continuing, "Maria, you were there too when we saved Felicity. Didn't we meet her on the road? Didn't we save her when she was stranded? At first, I didn't want to pick her up since it's rare for us to go on a vacation together, but you're the one who asked Felicity to get into our car."Now, you're also the one

Felicity continued to update her social media as Sean sent her home. "It's so nice to be able to enjoy a couple's haven. It feels great without a third wheel."Her next update read, "The unloved one is the real mistress."For her last update, she attached a picture with her message. I could tell from a glance that they were in our new home just based on the items in the photo. "I held my head high and proud when I entered. Come and catch me if you dare. I bet you don't even have the guts to hit me."Sean liked her latest update, commenting, "You're so playful."I smiled as I looked through Felicity's updates. I then called all our relatives."Hello, Aunt Bethany. It's me, Maria. Sean locked himself in his room. He refuses to come out no matter what I say. Can you drop by and talk to him for me?""Something happened to Sean, Aunt Giselle," I said after calling another person. "I can't handle it on my own. Can you bring Uncle Isaac with you to help me?"I placed down my phone af
