Chapter 4

Author: Amber Fleck
I stared at Candy silently, then started unbuttoning my shirt.

"Grace!" Isaac yelled.

However, before he could say anything else, Candy's eyes reddened.

"Isaac, I knew you still had feelings for this old woman. You said you stayed in this city for work, but really, you stayed so you could keep sneaking around with her, didn't you? If that's the case, maybe I should just leave!"

Isaac rushed to stop her. Turning his back to me, he couldn't even bring himself to look at me.

Ignoring their argument, I continued unbuttoning my shirt. As my clothes fell to the ground one after another, Candy's smile grew wider, and Isaac's expression grew darker.

"Who said you could stand here watching? All of you, get lost!" he roared at the butler and staff.

When I was down to just my underwear, Isaac suddenly grabbed my wrist, saying, "That's enough. I didn't buy that."

A cold gust of wind swept over me. Clenching my teeth, I carefully dug up the last surviving sunflower and transferred it to a pot.

I had no phone or wallet. Barefoot, I walked out of the mansion. Ignoring the strange looks from passersby, I replaced my bank card and SIM card.

The moment my new phone powered on, I tried to find the text message I'd been waiting for. Before I could, endless news alerts flooded the screen. Every single headline featured zoomed-in photos of me leaving the mansion half-dressed.

"Former Mrs. Jones Strips to Win Ex-husband Back, But Fails. The Sunflower in Her Arms Sparks Speculation About a Secret Message."

The comment section was filled with sarcastic remarks.

"Old women like her really have no shame."

"They're already divorced, but she still won't let go. I guess she'll do anything to stay in high society."

"After making a fool of herself like this, who's ever going to want her again?"

My nails dug into my palms. I forced myself to take a deep, calming breath. I reminded myself that once I left, all of this would be over.

Then, I suddenly remembered that all my personal documents were still inside the suitcase that Candy had confiscated.

A text message appeared on my screen.

"If you want your documents back, come to this location."

When I arrived, Candy was standing on the edge of a bridge. Half her body was hanging over the railing. When she saw me, she laughed softly. Holding my plane ticket between two fingers, she waved it at me mockingly.

"What? Have you finally realized that clinging to Isaac doesn't work and plan to disappear? Until now, do you still not know your place?"

I had no interest in talking nonsense with her.

"Give it back," I said.

Candy tossed my documents onto the pavement at her feet. "Come get them yourself."

At that moment, my phone buzzed with the reply I'd been waiting for.

"Grace, everything's arranged. Should I pick you up and head to the airport?"

Without hesitation, I walked over to retrieve my documents.

That was when Candy cried into her phone, "Isaac, help! The crazy old lady is trying to push me into the river!"

Before I could react, she grabbed me and threw herself backward, dragging me into the water with her.

The raging river swallowed us whole. Water surged into my nose and lungs. My chest burned.

I desperately fought my way back to the surface and tried to swim toward the shore. Then, I realized that at some point, Candy had slipped heavy weights into my pockets.

Her voice drifted through the water like a ghost.

"Running off overseas won't change anything. Even if you die, Isaac's heart will only belong to me!"

Just as the last bit of air left my lungs, a figure jumped into the water. It was Isaac. Seeing me sink deeper into the water, he frantically swam toward me.

However, Candy wrapped herself around him, coughing dramatically and screaming, "Isaac, help me! I can't swim!"

Isaac instantly pulled her into his arms and swam toward the shore.

After helping Candy cough up the water she'd swallowed, he barked an order to his assistant. "Get her to the hospital!"

"But Mrs. Jo—Ms. Stewart is still in the river."

Isaac replied impatiently, "She knows how to swim. As if trying to frame Candy wasn't enough. Now she's pretending to drown? She needs to learn a lesson! You stay here. When she comes out, bring her straight to Candy to apologize."

When Candy was discharged from the hospital, she never received an apology from me. However, she did receive a marriage proposal from Isaac.

That same night, Isaac finally got exactly what he'd always wanted. The untouchable woman he'd been chasing for years was finally his.

As he got out of bed afterward, he accidentally kicked something that was lying on the floor. He bent down and picked it up. It was a pregnancy test with two lines.

"This isn't your first time?"

Candy immediately pointed at the streak of blood on the bedsheets and asked, "Isaac, isn't that proof enough?"

In that instant, a thought flashed through his mind.

Without waiting for dawn to break, he threw on his coat and rushed to the hospital. He searched everywhere, but I was nowhere to be found.

Then, he spotted Dr. Lawson and called out to her. "Doctor! Has my wife been here recently? She fell into a river two days ago. Will that affect the baby?"

Dr. Lawson stared at him in confusion.

"The baby? The last time you were here, she had just undergone an abortion…"

I'm not selling it to anyone!"A property manager was thrown out the door, along with his contract."Isaac." I picked up the document and walked inside. At the sound of my voice, he spun around in disbelief. "Grace?"He rushed toward me, opening his arms to pull me into a hug. However, I stepped aside, leaving him embracing empty air."Grace, I've been looking for you this whole time. Where have you been?"His eyes were bloodshot, and his jaw was rough with stubble."Dr. Lawson told me what happened. She said you aborted our baby. I was a bastard. I didn't know you were pregnant. I already got rid of Candy. From now on, I'll stay by your side, and we'll live a good life together, alright?"He eagerly began gesturing around the house and continued, "Look here—and here. I restored everything to exactly how it used to be. I never threw away your

Instead, he stood quietly beside me in front of my parents' new graves. The sunflower I'd saved had already been planted beside my mother's headstone."My family has owned this land for years. I had it prepared in advance," Skylar said. "When this sunflower produces seeds again, I'll have the gardeners collect them and replant the field."After removing his gloves, Skylar gently ruffled my hair. "By next summer at the latest, your sunflower garden will be back.""Thank you."The moment I spoke, tears spilled down my face. A loud ringing filled his ears.Dr. Lawson's lips continued moving, but he couldn't hear a single word she was saying. With trembling hands, he dialed Grace's number, but the call wouldn't connect. He immediately called his assistant instead. "After Grace came out of the river, which hospital was she taken to? Was she seriously injured?"The assistant sounded startled as he said, "Mr. Jones… We waited by the river all afternoon that day. Ms. Stewart never came back up. We were afraid something had happened, so we called a search and rescue team. "We practically searched the entire river, but we never found her… And later, when you told us to prepare the proposal venue, we stopped searching…"By then, Isaac was gripping his phone so tightly it looked ready to shatter."Search every hospital in the city! If you don't find Grace, you're all fired!"After hanging up, Isaac sped toward the house Grace's parents had left behind. If she

When I opened my eyes again, an IV was hooked up to my arm. Isaac sat beside the bed, gripping my fingertips. His eyes were bloodshot. The moment he saw that I was awake, he hurriedly handed me a glass of warm water. However, I shoved it away in disgust and immediately looked around for my phone."Grace, are you still having trouble breathing? I put ointment on all the hives. The itching should be gone now, right?"My phone wasn't anywhere nearby. I pulled the IV needle from the back of my hand and got up from the bed. That was when I felt something was wrong."Where am I? Don't tell me you gave my parents' house to Candy too."A flicker of guilt crossed Isaac's face as he tried to explain, "Candy never sleeps well at our place. It's quieter here and better for her recovery. I just let her stay for a little while…"My entire body began to shake. I looked around my bedroom. The vanity my father had handcrafted for me was gone, ripped apart and turned into a doghouse. The doll m
