Chapter 4

Author: Noorie
Ethan’s footsteps echoed against the marble floor, deliberate and heavy, as he walked straight past the frozen crowd.

The oppressive silence in the hall stretched so thin it felt ready to snap.

Lorenzo’s face contorted into a mask of pure rage. He shoved Rosaline aside—nearly causing her to stumble—and stepped into Ethan’s path, his chest heaving.

“You’re out of your mind, Ethan,” Lorenzo spat, his hands balling into tight fists. “Lucy is my fiancée. The wheel’s outcome is void. She isn't going anywhere with you, let alone to that island.”

Ethan didn't even slow down. He stopped just inches from Lorenzo, towering over his younger brother with an air of absolute, suffocating dominance. His gray eyes were cold, amused, and utterly devoid of fear.

“Void?” Ethan asked softly, a low chuckle rumbling in his chest. “Since when does the ruler of the empire break the sacred law set by himself? You insisted on the rule yourself, Lorenzo. ‘A Moretti never breaks his word.’ Isn't that the motto you used to keep her waiting for seven long years?”

Lorenzo’s jaw twitched violently. “This is a trap. She staged this!”

“She spun an open wheel that you provided,” Ethan replied smoothly, bypassing Lorenzo as if he were nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

He stepped onto the elevated platform, his gaze fixing entirely on me.

For seven years, I had seen Ethan only in distant family portraits and whispered rumors. He was the exiled heir, the man who built his own bloody empire across the seas after Lorenzo seized power at home. Up close, his presence was overwhelming—sharp cheekbones, a shadow of stubble, and eyes that saw through every mask.

He reached out a gloved hand, offering it to me with surprising gentleness.

“As per the rule, if both the persons- the one spinning the wheel and the one whose name appears- agree to the term, no one can stop them from visiting Lucy Island for a night,” Ethan said, his voice neutral, yet carrying a weight that made my heart hammer against my ribs. “I agree with this term, Lucy. Are you? Will you come with me?”

“Lucy, Don't!” Lorenzo barked from his place. Shoving Rosaline aside, he came to me. “Don’t agree to this. Spin the wheel again. If you spin my name, I’m going with you.”

“Lorenzo…” Rosaline yelled from behind, “I spun your name first!”

“Shut up!” he yelled without even turning to look at her. His gaze remained fixed on me. “Spin the wheel, Lucy. Spin my name.”

I stared at his desperate eyes and then Ethan’s outstretched palm. A single word from me would ignite a full-scale war between the brothers.

But as I glanced over Ethan’s shoulder, I caught sight of Lorenzo—his collar displaying a lipstick mark, the same shade Rosaline was currently wearing; the last remaining piece of my hesitation turned to ash.

I placed my hand in Ethan’s. His fingers wrapped around mine, warm and firm.

“Lucy! Don't you dare!” Lorenzo roared, pulling a sleek black handgun from beneath his jacket.

The crowd screamed, scattering toward the exits in absolute panic. But before Lorenzo could raise the barrel, six red laser dots appeared on his chest. From the upper balconies, Ethan’s elite snipers racked their bolts in ominous unison.

Ethan didn't even bother to turn around. He simply drew me closer to his side, his arm wrapping securely around my waist.

“Put the gun away, little brother,” Ethan warned, his tone casually lethal. “You played your game for seven years and lost. Lucy’s Island belongs to her—and tonight, so does her partner.”

“It's your fault!” Lorenzo turned to his assistant, his eyes red with fury. “How could she draw any name? The mechanism should have let her land on the blank section. You messed it up!”

As soon as these words escaped his lips, the crowd once again erupted into whispers and snickers. But this time, those were all directed at him.

He confessed!

Now everyone knew he had been cheating for seven years despite appearing to be the strictest and most disciplined man.

“The mafia Lord had been playing his own fiancée? For seven years?”

“Serves him right!”

“She should have left him years ago.”

Ethan only shot a short glance over Lorenzo’s assistant before he turned and led me straight past the paralyzed guards toward the heavy double doors.

As we stepped out into the crisp night air, where a matte-black chopper waited on the landing pad, I heard Lorenzo’s frantic, desperate scream echo from inside the hall.

“Lucy! You’ll regret this! You belong to me!”

I didn't look back. I climbed into the helicopter beside Ethan, the wind whipping my hair as the blades roared to life. For the first time in seven years, I wasn't waiting for permission to live. I was taking control.

One year later “Two hundred dollars!” Rosaline said excitedly, counting the money she had robbed by falsely accusing a youngster of molestation in the dark alley. Beside her, Lorenzo smirked reading a cut out from the newspaper lying on the trash can.He was unrecognizable. The tailored Brioni suits were gone, replaced by a threadbare coat he’d bought off a street vendor in Naples. The sharp, imperious jawline that had once commanded boardrooms and terrified lieutenants was now buried beneath a ragged, salt-and-pepper beard. His hands, perpetually tremulous, fumbled with a damp cigarette."He's taking the vessel out today," Lorenzo muttered, his voice a dry rasp. "The Valeria. My ship. He renamed it the Lucia.""Shut up, Lorenzo," Rosaline hissed, not turning her head. "You’ve said that every morning for a week.""It was mine," he insisted. "Everything was mine.""And now you're a ghost living on my money and stolen cash," she snapped, her voice breaking with bitter exhaustion. "You

The silence in the foyer hung heavy, stretched taut like a piano wire ready to snap.Down below, Lorenzo stood with the open velvet box held high, his bloodshot eyes fixed on me with a desperate, suffocating intensity. He looked like a man drowning, offering me a gold anchor to save us both. Beside him, Ethan remained motionless, a shadow carved from ice, offering nothing but the quiet, terrifying freedom to choose.I looked at Lorenzo. For seven years, I had survived under his thumb, enduring his cold neglect, his casual cruelties, and the constant reminder that I was nothing more than an accessory to his bloodline. He didn't love me. He loved the idea that I belonged to him, and the thought that his brother had touched what was his had driven him past the brink of sanity. Then my gaze shifted to Ethan.Ethan, who had unspooled me in the dark. Ethan, who had challenged me, provoked me, and given me the one thing Lorenzo never had: a choice.I took a slow, deliberate breath, letting go

The next morning, as the harsh sunlight swept through the window and fell on my eyes, I found the bed beside me was empty. The heavy silk sheets still held the faint heat of Ethan’s body and the scent of cedarwood. From behind the frosted glass door of the adjacent bathroom came the steady, rhythmic hiss of a hot shower.I sat up, wincing slightly as my body reminded me of the frantic, possessive hours that had passed between midnight and dawn. Ethan hadn't lied. The quiet restraint he’d displayed down in the living room had burned away the second his lips hit mine, replaced by a deep, breathless intensity that had left me completely unspooled.I looked down at my hands, no longer trembling.“Get pregnant and have someone whom you can call your own after I’m gone.”My grandmother’s final wish echoed sharply in my mind.‘F*ck this monster!’ I thought, ‘He really went for seven rounds!’ Considering my ovulation, I must have gotten pregnant. I had done it. ‘Grandma wishes me to bui

The rotors of the helicopter beat a steady, hypnotic rhythm against the night sky, drowning out the lingering echoes of Lorenzo’s frantic, echoing screams. I leaned my head back against the leather seat. My hands, resting in my lap, trembled slightly. Seven years of quiet compliance, of standing in shadows and swallowing humiliation, had ended in a single, irreversible moment."Cold?"Ethan’s deep, quiet voice broke through the noise of the engine. I opened my eyes to find him watching me, his gray eyes devoid of the harsh dominance he had displayed in the hall. He reached across the small aisle and draped his heavy wool coat over my shoulders. The garment smelled faintly of cedarwood and sea air, wrapping me in a solid, grounding warmth."No," I said softly, meeting his gaze. "Just... realizing it's over.""It’s not over," Ethan corrected, a subtle, sharp edge in his tone. "It’s just a new beginning."Miles away, on the private tarmac behind the mansion, a second helicopter sat wit

The moment those words escaped through my lips, the hall erupted with another gasp of laughter. Those Moretti estate women stopped at nothing to mock me. “What's the point of spinning the wheel? Mr. Moretti’s name has already landed on Rosaline’s spin, as always.” “At this point, you should already give up and let Mr Moretti marry Rosaline instead.” “Another bad omen waiting for you…” “What a loss of time!” “Silence!” Lorenzo commanded, taking a step closer to me. His voice softened as he shot a deep glance over my quiet expression and turned to face the crowd. “The rules state only a night; it never says I should get married to the woman who spins my name.” “Besides, Rosaline and I are only friends. I never intend to marry her.” He held my hands gently. “Next year, I’ll definitely marry you, Lucy.” Too bad.I don't have that much time. I pulled my hands from his grasp and faced the crowd. My voice was laced with confidence as I spoke, “Who says I’m going for Lorenzo’s name?”
