ログインChapter 8
"Are you okay?" Clarissa asked, suddenly interrupting Davey's thoughts. He was standing at the veranda, a deep scowl on his face. After receiving the call from Nathan, his mood has worsened. He turned to look at Clarissa, managing a smile. "I'm perfectly fine, babe. Just some work related stuff. I might have to go very early to the office tomorrow." He replied calmly. He knew b hadn't been handing the affairs of the company for months now, he'd left his manager in charge. But now that he feels threatened by Suzanne's sudden involvement with S&C, he would go over to his office and check the progress of the strategy team. He must have the Hong Chan contract. "And why? Did something happen?" Clarissa asked with an obvious concern in her eyes. "Huh..." Davey paused, wondering if it was okay to let her know about Suzanne. "It has something to do with Suzanne, right? When will that slut finally get out of our lives?" Clarissa exploded like a ticking time bomb. "I can't even believe you really are delaying our marriage all because she asked for two months? Don't you find it suspicious? What if she's trying to hurt you? What if she's trying to move your assets during this time?" Davey turned to look at Clarissa, and shook his head. "Suzanne isn't like that. She would never do any of the things you just mentioned." He answered with absolutes clarity. Clarissa frowned at him, getting pissed off. How could he say nove things about his ex right in front of her? "I can't believe you just said that," she scoffed. Davey straightened from the cold handles of the railings, and settled his gaze on Clarissa. He smiled on seeing how jealous she looked. "Are you jealous right now?" "Shouldn't I be? Why would you say such nice things about that woman in front of me?" "You don't need to be jealous of Suzanne, babe. You know you've always had my heart right from college. I love only you, and that's why I'm getting ready to get a divorce to be with you." Clarissa rolled her eyes dramatically, and pouted. "Come over here, you pretty little thing." Davey muttered softly, pulling her into his warm embrace. As they both stood together, looking over the busy street, Davey still couldn't get his mind off Suzanne. He couldn't stop wondering what her plans were. He was impatient. He was impatiently waiting for her to get home. And for the first time since their marriage, he realized it was the first time he would be waiting for her to get back home. Heck, it was the first time she was getting him this worked up. ************** "What do you say about coming over tomorrow to my penthouse?" Michael asked as soon as he halted the car to a stop in front of the house where Suzanne shared with Davey. She turned to look at him, blinking. "We... aren't in our characters now, Mr. O'Connor. Can we save this act for tomorrow's view?" Suzanne replied, and chuckled. But the look in Michael's handsome face narrowed, becoming more serious. She stopped laughing, and cleared her throat. "Call me Michael, even when we're together alone like this." Michael ordered, his vioice full with authority. Suzanne nodded, scared to annoy the young man. "Okay," "And about coming to my place, you are only coming to sign the contract papers. Don't get funny ideas in your head." Michael added, and ever briefly, he ran his eyes over Suzanne's lips. The way they curved up in a warm smile at his words. "I understand." Suzanne replied. She picked up her bag from her lap, getting ready to exit the car. "Tomorrow then," she added, and was about to open the door when it suddenly pulled open on it owns. Outside, one of Michael's guards waited. "Go on," Michael muttered, watched silently as Suzanne got out, and walked towards the building. "Get in, Harley," Michael ordered the guard outside as soon as Suzanne was out of sight. Harley got in, banged the door close, and turned to look at his boss whose face was suddenly displaying a casual nonchalant smile. "Isn't this perfect?" He drawled, letting his eyes rest on the building which Suzanne has just disappeared into. "It is, boss. I never thought she would walk up to you herself and propose such a deal. I never expected her coming to you herself." Michael smiled again, and relaxed back in his seat. Who would have thought the woman he has been gathering informations about for the past four months would come to him? It was indeed a miracle. ***************** "Where have you been?" Davey queried immediately his eyes found Suzanne walking into the house. "Did she leave already? Your lover?" Suzanne returbed, looking all over the house. "She's not just my lover, Suzanne. She's the woman I am in love with, and that didn't answer my question. Did it?" Davey retorted.. "I can't remember the last time you concerned yourself with wherever I go. You've totally ignored my existence. Why do you care now?" Davey got up from where he sat in the living room, feeling pissed already. "Well, that's because you've never gone out so early only to arrive this late." Suzanne stared at him as he approached her, and chuckled silently within her. She could see the insecurities all over his face. He must have found out she was at Michael's office. "Well, I had to look for work, you know. Soon, you will be throwing me out of your house, and I need something to be able to sustain my mother and I. I can't sit back and do nothing." "And who the hell said you need to work? Didn't I tell you that you could take over the spa after the divorce? Isn't that enough to sustain you?" Davey questioned. "Even I take over that management of the spa, I still need to equip the spa with all the necessary facilities, services and products. I need to be able to maintain it." "I will give you all the amount you want. Just tell me how much you will be needing, and quit whatever work you've gotten yourself into." Suzanne looked at Davey for a while, and shook her head. She didn't need to think about his offer. The last thing she would want was to be indebted to her ex-husband. "That won't be necessary, Davey. I don't need a penny from you. You just told me right now to my face that you're in love with another woman. You didn't consider how that might hurt me, and now, you're offering me money? "What sort of human would I be if I shut accept? I don't want a single penny from you, Davey." Suzanne stopped when her voice began to quiver, the wife's of her eyes were getting pricked by tears. God, when will she stop getting affected by what this man says to her? When will she finally be able to move in? Davey looked away, hands in his pockets. He could see Suzanne was getting emotional, and a part of him suddenly felt bad. He quickly shrugged away the feeling, and resumed looking at her. "I'm only going to tell you this because we once shared a home together, and even if the love wasn't mutual, I still considered you a wife. Michael O'Connor is dangerous. He's a very dangerous business man who can go at any length to achieve his goals. You don't want to associate yourself with someone as deadly as Micheal O'Connor." Suzanne's eyes quivered as she stared at Davey, but letting him think hus words had gotten to her was the last thing she wanted. So, quickly, she brushed off such betraying feelings, and shrugged her shoulders. "Let me worry about that, Davey. I think you should worry more about your... wedding which is taking place very soon." Suzanne replied dismissively. She excused herself, and walked past him to the stairs. Once in the guestroom, her back pressed against the cold frame of the door, Suzanne let her mind wander. She thought about what Davey had said about Michael, and one part of her started to get worried. She thought about her recent interactions with Michael, trying to remember if anything about him seemed out of the ordinary. Was Davey trying to dissuade her from working or Is the man really dangerous? Suzanne couldn't tell.Chapter 8"Are you okay?" Clarissa asked, suddenly interrupting Davey's thoughts. Chapter 7Naomi backed towards the mirror, trying to conceal the burning rage in her eyes. "Me? No. Did you hear me say that?"Suzanne smiled, then stopped on noticing how swollen and red Naomi's eyes were. "Are you okay? You seemed to have been crying.""Me?" Naomi blinked, and shook her head, letting her short bob hair dance around her neck. "Why would I cry? I'm perfectly fine, it's just fatigue." Suspiciously, Suzanne reached out and felt Naomi's temperature. Immediately, she withdrew. "My God, Naomi, you're boiling up." "I'm fine! Let go of me!" Naomi snapped loudly, startling Suzanne in the process. After she'd realized what she had done, Naomi quickly calmed her nerves. "I'm...sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you." With the shocked expression still on her face, Suzanne managed to smile, and nodded. "It's okay. I... just hope you're fine." She told her and went into one of the restrooms. Few minutes later, she came out, and saw Naomi still waiting in front of the window. "
Chapter 6The exclusive hospital room smelt of strong disinfectant that stuck the air in the room heavily. Beeping sounds from the monitor and the oxygen machine circulated the room as well, breaking the silence that stepped in every now and then. On the bed was Arlan Hawthorne, soft gray hair splattered over the pillow behind his head. His eyes which were tightly closed quickly shot open as soon as the door creaked open. He could barely move his paralysed neck, but out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Leah, Davey's mother walking in, holding a basket of fresh fruits. "You're awake, grandpa." She smiled brilliantly, making a stop by the bedside. She dropped the basket on the drawer, turned to inspect the connecting wires from the oxygen machine. "You seem to be doing well." "What...are you doing here?" Arlan struggled the get the words out from one corner of his mouth. Half of his face was paralysed, but it didn't stop him from talking. "Oh, wow. I can see you can talk now." Lea
Chapter 5The air in the car was cooling with the undeniably expensive scent of a crisp, woody cologne. The chairs were fluffy and comfortable, and as Suzanne sat, she couldn't help but got too comfortable even though she knew her presence there was all a fake. Soft music began to play from the stereo of the car. An old blues that appeared to be Suzanne's favourite. She concealed a smile, closing her eyes. "You look like you like the music," Michael muttered, giving her a sideways glance.Suzanne quickly sat up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm sorry you had to come all the way there to get me...""We're playing a game, Suzanne. I thought I should make it too real to be doubted. I'm taking you to my company. I want to introduce you." Michael replied flatly, his eyes on the road. He swirled the car around to the next bending corner, glancing at the rare view mirror. "Introduce me...to who?" Suzanne stammered. "The strategy team. I think you will be overseeing the new
Chapter 4 The next morning came bright and clear with Suzanne getting up from bed in high spirit. She moved around the guestroom, getting ready for the day, and her appointment with Michael. It still felt like a dream...how she was easily able to get him to agree with her proposal. Lying slanted on the bed was a nude coloured above the knee dress Suzanne had picked up the night before. It was a new dress she was hoping to wear during a night out with her husband, but since it never happened, she had kept it in her closet. Suzanne hummed softly to the chirping of the morning birds perching over the green trees in the garden outside the windows. She focused her energy on making herself beautiful rather than feeling sorry for waking up for the first time in the guestroom instead of the master's bedroom. She stood before her full-length mirror few minutes later, the nude-colored dress a whisper of silk in her hands. The fabric felt cool against her skin, gracing her curves and s
Chapter 3The buzzing sound from Suzanne's bag interrupted the moment, giving her the perfect distraction she needed from the tense situation. She looked apologetically at Michael, as she digged her hand in her bag to silent the call. "I'm so sorry about the interruption...""No. Go ahead. You can pick it up." Michael replied casually. "Thank you," Suzanne whispered, connecting the line. She was too anxious to even look at the caller. "Hello...""You trick-ish shameless dog. Get your ass back in the house this instance!" A howling cruel voice erupted from the other end, startling Suzanne in the process. Embarrassed, knowing Michael definitely heard the statement, she pulled the cellphone away from her ear and stared down at the caller ID. It was Davey's mother, Leah Hawthorne. "Mother, I'm...""Are you giving me excuses right now? Get yourself right before me now! I don't want to know where you are or what you're doing. Get back here!" The line clicked in her ear, and Suzanne quie
