Chapter 3

Author: Tiny Pear
Sylvia didn't have time to react. As they fell down the stairs, Naomi used her as a shield.

Sylvia's back, waist, and abdomen slammed violently against the hard steps. When she finally hit the bottom, a searing pain tore through her body.

"Call an ambulance!"

Jason's strained voice echoed loudly in Sylvia's ear.

Sylvia struggled to open her eyes. She saw Jason sprinting in her direction, but she wasn't his target.

He ran right past her and rushed toward Naomi, who had suffered only a few minor scrapes. Meanwhile, Sylvia was bleeding profusely.

Jason asked Naomi if she was hurt in a trembling voice. It was as if she was the most precious thing in the world.

Sylvia closed her eyes again.

The pain throughout her body grew worse by the second, yet it was nothing compared to the suffocating agony she felt in her heart.

The paramedics arrived soon after, but Jason only called for one ambulance.

He personally carried Naomi into the ambulance. The paramedics asked if anyone else was injured. Jason replied in a cold voice. "No."

The ambulance sped away. By the time another ambulance arrived after Sylvia called for help herself, she had already lost an enormous amount of blood.

When she was wheeled into the operating room, her vital signs had already fallen below the safe threshold. Through her haze, she heard the doctors shouting, "Quick, quick! Her condition is critical. Inject the medication immediately!"

But she had lost too much blood. The doctor told Sylvia that a family member had to sign the surgical risk consent form before they could operate.

Sylvia didn't want to contact Jason, but thinking of her baby, her eyes filled with tears. She clenched her jaw and called him.

He answered quickly. Sylvia weakly told him she needed to undergo surgery.

Jason coldly cut her off. "Sylvia, apologize to Naomi right now.

"Otherwise, there's no reason for us to stay in contact."

Despair filled Sylvia's eyes.

She didn't defend herself. Instead, she let out a hoarse, sarcastic chuckle. "Dream on."

With the last bit of strength she had left, she hung up on the utterly meaningless call.

"I'm sorry, doctor." She looked away. A tear slid from the corner of her eye. "I don't have any family.

"I'll take responsibility for any outcome of the surgery myself."

That's right. She and Jason had never truly been a married couple.

From the very beginning, it had only ever been a one-sided relationship.

It was nothing more than that.

The surgery lasted four hours.

Sylvia was pulled back from the brink of death, but the doctor told her solemnly, "The baby is gone.

"You arrived too late. Otherwise, there might still have been a chance."

If Jason hadn't lied to the paramedics when the first ambulance arrived, their baby might have survived.

Once the anesthesia wore off, the first thing Sylvia did was send the divorce papers to her lawyer, Liam Cooper.

Liam told her the divorce process would take two weeks.

The second thing she did was obtain the security footage from the stairwell.

There was nothing obstructing the camera, and the footage clearly showed Naomi deliberately pulling Sylvia down the stairs with her.

Sylvia later sent the video to Jason.

A call from Jason immediately appeared on her screen.

Sylvia ignored it. She put her phone on silent and tossed it aside.

An hour later, Jason entered her ward with a dark expression.

Jason stayed in the hospital for an entire month. The doctor looked at him but was clearly hesitant to speak. "Mr. Porter, if this happens again, even a miracle won't save you."Jason never cared about this.He quietly kept himself informed about Sylvia's life.He learned that she had become an excellent studio owner and had recently held a highly acclaimed art exhibition that had attracted widespread attention in the industry. He learned that she was living a happy married life. The Johansen family didn't care about her past. Instead, they treated her like one of their own.He learned how difficult her life had been over the past two years, how hard she had worked, and how Frank had always stayed by her side.Jason even started seeing a therapist. The therapist told him that sometimes, letting go was the best outcome for both parties. Loving someone didn't necessarily mean having to possess them.It was just like the way he had once treated Naomi. Quietly watching over her an

Meanwhile, Sylvia got into the car.It was her wedding night. Frank had spent more than six months preparing for this wedding, but because of her, Jason's appearance had caused a slight disturbance."I'm sorry."Sylvia had just parted her lips when she heard Frank's soft apology.Frank pulled the car over, gently brushed the loose strands of hair away from Sylvia's cheek, and said again, "I'm sorry. I should have checked the guest list more carefully."The Johansen family was several times more powerful than the Porter family. Their guest list included businessmen from all over the world. How could they possibly check every single name?Looking at the unwavering love in Frank's eyes, Sylvia's heart softened completely. She knew that the love she felt for Frank was different from what she had once felt for Jason.Jason had always been distant and aloof, so she had to keep her own personality in check around him. Her love for him had always carried an element of looking up to him

The hollow feeling that had haunted Jason like a demon suddenly vanished the moment he held Sylvia in his arms.He tightened his embrace. He was holding her so tightly that he almost wished he could merge her into his very bones and never let her go again.Soon, Sylvia struggled free and slapped him across the face. The crisp sound of the slap rang out.Taking advantage of Jason's momentary daze, Sylvia shoved him away with all her strength."We have nothing to do with each other anymore." Sylvia's voice was flat. "Mr. Porter, please have some self-respect."Jason's breathing grew rapid and ragged. He wanted nothing more than to kidnap Sylvia, yet he was terrified that she would hate him.He couldn't accept this outcome. After all, he was the one who had betrayed Sylvia."Sylvia, I love you." Jason was willing to tear his heart out and show it to her if that's what it took to convince her of how he felt. The man who could sign million-dollar contracts without the slightest cha

Sylvia hadn't noticed Jason's intense gaze at all.On this important occasion, the spotlight was focused entirely on her and Frank Johansen. Her palms were slightly sweaty, and her heart was beating rapidly.Frank noticed her nervousness too. He smiled gently at her. He then took the wedding ring from the attendant and got down on one knee.He treated her as solemnly as if she were the most precious person in his life. "Sylvia, I love you. Will you marry me?"Amid the cheers of the crowd, Sylvia's eyes gradually filled with tears. It felt like a dream to her. This was her second wedding. Even Sylvia herself was surprised that she had stepped into marriage again after such a short period of time.Originally, she had thought she would never trust anyone again in this lifetime. Yet Frank had entered her world and, with his tenderness, patience, and thoughtfulness, melted the walls of ice around her heart. He gave her the courage to believe in love once more. She nodded and was abou

Two years later, in a crowded bar, a woman wearing bunny ears tried to cling to Jason. She blew softly against his ear and asked sweetly, "Mr. Porter, would you like a drink?""Get lost." Those two simple words were enough to scare her into leaving in a hurry.Jason's friend Daniel let out a long sigh when he saw this. "Jason, it's been two years. Stop torturing yourself."This was far from the first time he had brought Jason out to take his mind off things. Yet every time a woman came anywhere near him, one cold look from Jason was enough to send her running.Daniel said earnestly, "Jason, let yourself go. Find someone better than Sylvia. One day, you'll move on, just like you did from the pain Naomi caused you.""She's different." His friend heard the exhaustion and hoarseness in Jason's voice. "Sylvia is different."Daniel fell silent. Watching Jason bury his head and drink himself into such a miserable state, he could not help but feel his own eyes sting.Indeed, Sylvia was

Jason slowly lowered his head. Looking at the woman he had once loved trembling uncontrollably in his arms, all he could see were the pieces of evidence Sylvia had posted online.Naomi had ordered the bodyguards he sent over to force Sylvia to kneel and beg for mercy, crushing what little remained of her dignity.Naomi had even conspired with her ex-husband by offering him a large sum of money just to deliberately torment Sylvia. At this moment, Jason found Naomi utterly unfamiliar. She no longer seemed like the innocent, kind-hearted girl he had once loved."What did you do to Sylvia?" Jason's voice was eerily calm. His dark eyes stared at Naomi as if they could drag her into an endless abyss."Don't lie to me, Naomi. You know me. I don't like betrayal, and I hate being deceived even more."His cold voice immediately stopped Naomi's tears.Naomi choked back a sob, and her gaze darted away. "I-I really didn't do anything. I just–"She clenched her jaw. She had no idea what othe
