Chapter 3

Author: New Moon
The next morning, I didn't wait for the driver. I put on a full face of makeup for the first time in a while and slipped into the white dress that had always been Mason's favorite.

When I came downstairs, Mason glanced up at me, his eyes sharp with suspicion and warning. I gave him my most innocent smile and sat down across from him like the obedient wife I'd always been.

"Mason, I've been thinking about everything you said." My voice was perfectly calm. "You're right. Helping Chloe won't really cost me anything. I'll do whatever you need me to do."

Mason clearly hadn't expected me to cave so quickly. "Good. I'm glad you're being reasonable. I'll have my lawyer redraft the agreement. If you cooperate fully, I can add another five million to your compensation."

He was always so sure of himself when it came to me. I lowered my eyes, hiding the bitter smile that threatened to surface.

"The money doesn't matter. But I do have one condition."

"What is it?"

I looked up and met his gaze directly. "I want to meet Ms. Reid. After all, I'm this child's mother. I have the right to know who my baby is saving. And I want to see for myself what kind of woman is worth all this trouble."

Mason's brow furrowed as he weighed his options. I pressed my advantage, letting my voice waver with just the right amount of vulnerability.

"Don't worry, I won't cause any trouble. I just need to see her so I can finally let go. If I meet her face to face, I'll be able to put all my foolish dreams about you to rest and focus on what this really is—a business transaction."

Maybe it was the word "transaction" that pleased him, or maybe it was how pathetic and broken I looked in that moment. He stayed quiet for a long moment before finally nodding.

"Fine. I'll arrange it this afternoon," he said.

The knot in my chest loosened. Phase one of my plan was complete.

That afternoon, Mason drove me to the exclusive private hospital himself.

The contrast was stark. While I'd been getting my prenatal checkups in a basic single room, Chloe's suite was on the top floor. It was spacious, sunlit, and decorated like something out of a fairy tale.

Apparently, favoritism showed in every single detail.

I swallowed the bitter taste in my mouth and looked up. Chloe was wearing soft pink hospital pajamas, her face as pale as porcelain as she reclined weakly against her pillows.

The moment she saw Mason walk in, her whole face lit up. Her voice was sweet as honey as she said, "Mace, you came."

When her gaze fell on me, particularly on my belly, I caught a flash of something calculating and smug beneath her fragile act. Mason walked over and tenderly tucked the blanket around her, every gesture radiating tenderness.

"Chloe, I brought Juliette to meet you."

Only then did Chloe turn her full attention to me, giving me an apologetic smile that was perfectly rehearsed.

"Mrs. Clarke, hello. I'm so sorry my illness has caused you so much trouble."

She added a few delicate coughs for effect, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I never would have agreed to let Mason do this if there was any other way. Please don't blame him. He's just so worried about me."

What a perfect little victim she was. In just a few sentences, she'd managed to paint herself as an innocent bystander while highlighting just how deeply Mason cared for her.

I stood there in silence, studying her performance. Then, I smiled.

I walked over to her bedside and leaned down, speaking in a voice so soft only she could hear. "Ms. Reid, you're quite the actress. But you'd better hope you can keep fooling Mason forever. And you'd better pray I never decide to tell him the truth."

Chloe's face went white as a sheet.

Sebastian and I set our wedding date for six months later. During those months, Mason never appeared again. I assumed he'd finally given up and left Snowcall for good. That was until the day before my wedding, when Eleanor called me from overseas, her tone dripping with dark amusement. "Jules, something happened to Mason."I was organizing some paperwork and asked absently. "What now?""Turns out his kidney was a perfect match for some wealthy businessman who desperately needed a transplant. The Clarke family basically forced him into donating it. At that same private hospital where it all began."I held the phone in silence for a long moment. Was this karma? This had to be karma. He'd once wanted to harvest my child's bone marrow to save his precious Chloe. Now, he was lying on that same operating table, having his organs taken to extend someone else's life. The irony was almost poetic."Jules, please tell me you're not thinking of getting involved." Eleanor sounded ready to

Every word I spoke cut into Mason like a blade. His face went white as a sheet, and he swayed on his feet."No… That's not true… He's my son, my son…" he mumbled.Suddenly, he became agitated, stepping forward as if to grab Theo from my arms. "Give him back to me! He's mine!"His wild behavior startled me, and I backed away several steps, clutching Theo protectively. "Mason! Get a hold of yourself!"But he wasn't listening anymore. Like a man possessed, he kept trying to reach for Theo. Just then, a sleek black Bentley pulled up silently at the curb. Two men in dark suits got out and moved swiftly to restrain Mason, each taking an arm. An elegant-looking man stepped out of the car.He was impeccably dressed in a tailored beige suit, and the gaze behind his wire-rimmed glasses was both gentle and guarded. Sebastian moved to my side, instinctively placing himself between Mason and me as he studied the situation with a furrowed brow."Jules, who is this?" he asked. Before I could

Life in Snowcall was peaceful and serene. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy and named him Theodore Hartwell.Theodore, meaning "gift of God"—to commemorate my rebirth.Little Theo was an angel baby who rarely cried or fussed, and he had the same clear, bright eyes as I. I felt like I owned the world whenever I held his tiny, warm body. After recovering from childbirth, I began juggling motherhood with returning to my career. I used the five million dollars Mason had paid me as seed money to register my own jewelry design studio in Snowcall. My piece "Rebirth" won the gold medal at a prestigious international jewelry design competition. That same competition was where I met Sebastian Beaumont. He said my jewelry had a unique aesthetic. It was bold yet refined, with an edge that spoke to personal transformation. He could see the story of resilience and renewal in every piece I created.Eventually, he became my biggest investor. Our professional relationship deepened into genuine

Eleanor drove me to the airport, and I collected my boarding pass from the machine. I'd already arranged everything with the hospital in Snowcall, and I would have my baby there safely. As the scenery flashed by outside the car window, I felt surprisingly nostalgic. I'd given up my chance to study jewelry design in Snowcall seven years ago just to marry Mason. Now, I was going back to reclaim everything I'd lost, piece by piece.Eleanor whistled admiringly. "Damn, that was brilliant! That's how a queen handles business! But what about Mason? Are you really just going to let him walk away?"I smiled, and there was a cold glint in my eyes. "Walk away? Not a chance. The little present I left him is just getting started. I want him to spend the rest of his life drowning in regret and misery."Eleanor didn't say anything else and just hit the gas harder. At dawn, I boarded my flight to Snowcall. The moment the plane took off, I turned off my phone, severing all connections to my past

When I arrived at the cafe, Mason was already there. He sat hunched by the window, looking completely defeated. In just a few days, he seemed to have aged a decade. The coffee in front of him sat untouched. When he saw me, his bloodshot eyes flashed with murderous hatred."What the hell do you want?" he sneered.I didn't answer. Instead, I slid a brown envelope across the table."Take a look. Once you've read through everything, it'll all make sense."Mason eyed me suspiciously but eventually opened the envelope. Inside were all the documents proving Chloe had falsified her medical records, along with her email correspondence with that private doctor. There were copies of her real health reports. And at the bottom, a lab analysis of every soup I'd delivered to her.As Mason flipped through each page, his face grew paler and paler until all the color had drained away. His hands began to shake so violently that he could barely hold the papers steady."No… this can't be…" He mutte

Three days later, Eleanor called. "Jules, I've got the results!"I could hear the barely-contained excitement in her voice."That herbal remedy from the traditional doctor reacted exactly as you suspected with Chloe's specialized medication! A single dose won't kill her, but it'll make her condition spiral for the next few days. She's going to be in agony!"My grip tightened on the phone. "What about the overseas medical records?""Even better! This woman has no legitimate treatment history whatsoever! She was diagnosed with aplastic anemia five years ago, but it was nowhere near severe enough to require a bone marrow transplant!"All her medical records were forged by private doctors she paid off! She's been lying to Mason this entire time!"She's using this whole charade to push you out of your position as Mrs. Clarke, then eliminate your child once she gets what she needs!"After Eleanor finished, I felt strangely calm—phase two of my plan had worked perfectly.
