Chapter 3

Autor: Nameless
Lucas and I had spent our whole lives competing with each other. Even when we were dating people, we wouldn't introduce our girlfriends to the other.

Isabella had never known that I had an identical twin brother.

"Honey." She tightened her grip on my hand and said, "After ten years together, how could our relationship be replaced just because someone else has the same face? That just means the love wasn't real. And no one in this world loves you more than I do."

I fought to keep my smile from showing and said, "That's so cheesy."

She didn't seem embarrassed at all. Instead, she gave me an affectionate look before heading off to warm up a glass of milk for me.

That was how we had spent the last ten years. Even in the early days, when my harsh words hurt her the most, she'd still quietly warm me a glass of milk before bed. At some point, I had started hoping I could keep drinking milk warmed by her for the rest of my life.

Perhaps Isabella thought someone had upset me, because the very next day, she ostentatiously gifted me an entire office building. The ribbon-cutting ceremony caused a sensation throughout Sevelan City.

In front of countless guests and reporters, she openly declared, "I will only ever have one husband in my life. No amount of money can change that."

That night, when I arrived at the celebration party, I discovered that a familiar figure had already beaten me there. Wearing the exact same suit as mine, Lucas was chatting and laughing with all the influential people I'd known for years.

The moment they spotted me, the crowd stared in surprise.

"Oh my! Mr. Donovan, you really do have a twin brother!"

"Lucas…" I looked at him in disbelief.

He merely raised an eyebrow, his gaze full of contempt. "See? This is the brother I told you about. The one who's always had inappropriate thoughts about his sister-in-law."

My fists clenched tightly.

"No wonder Ms. Sinclair suddenly gave you an entire building yesterday."

"Everyone knows how devoted Ms. Sinclair is. Even though they look alike, it doesn't matter."

"Honestly, if it's real love, people should be able to recognize their own partner instantly, even if there were identical twins. Some people should stop getting ideas."

The people who used to laugh and socialize with me couldn't actually tell Lucas and me apart. The only reason they believed him was because he'd gotten there first. Naturally, they assumed he was the same person they'd known all along.

Lucas continued smoothly, "Marcus, I never introduced Isabella to you because I was worried you'd get the wrong idea. But all these years, I've always treated you well. Every time you needed money, I helped you out. Now, what is this? You're trying to bypass me and directly ask Isabella for money?"

"You!"

Fury surged through me. Just as I stepped forward to argue, Lucas' eyes suddenly flashed with panic. Before I even touched him, he stumbled backward into a towering champagne display.

"Ah! Marcus, why did you push me?"

Champagne splashed all over his suit, drenching him.

The crowd immediately rushed in between us.

"You should be ashamed of yourself! You're the one who tried to seduce your sister-in-law, and now, you're attacking your own brother?"

"You even showed up dressed exactly like him! How shameless are you?"

"Just because you have the same face as your brother doesn't mean you're worthy of Ms. Sinclair!"

Just as I was about to say something, a familiar voice suddenly rang out behind me.

"What's going on here?"

"Isabella!"

I turned around. But she walked right past me, heading straight to Lucas. Helping him to his feet, she asked, "Honey, are you hurt anywhere? Let me see."

Lucas merely gritted his teeth and shook his head, his eyes red. He didn't say a word, but somehow, he still managed to look deeply hurt.

"Daddy!"

A small figure rushed forward and threw her arms around Lucas.

"Daddy! Are you okay?"

Looking at the daughter I'd raised, Lucas was momentarily stunned. Then, he smiled, eyes turning red, as he gently touched her cheek.

"Daddy…" Olivia sobbed.

"But if you go with Chloe…"Isabella couldn't hide the disgust in her eyes as she looked at Chloe.By then, I had already stepped to Chloe's side. "Isabella, I love her. Just let it go!"Isabella clenched her jaw. With that, I took Chloe's hand and said coldly, "Let's go."A triumphant smile appeared on Chloe's face.Suddenly, a child's voice rang out. "Daddy!"I froze.Olivia came running toward us. "You're not taking my daddy away!""Baby!" Lucas called out. "Baby! Daddy's here!"Olivia grabbed my hand tightly. When she saw Lucas, her emotions boiled over."No, you're not. He's my daddy!"I frowned. "Olivia, that's your real father.""I don't care!" Olivia was on the verge of tears. "I want you! I don't want him!"Lucas gritted his teeth. "What did you say?""I've known something was wrong for a long time. Daddy kept changing. It was two different people. Mommy always said we were going on family trips, but every time, Daddy was a different Daddy!"Olivia forcefully p

Before long, I felt something wet on my hand.Back when I could barely stand being around Isabella and Olivia, the most Isabella would do was get upset. But in all those years, she had never once shed a tear."I'm sorry… I'm so sorry… I got you hurt…"She lowered her head until her forehead rested against the back of my hand, her shoulders trembling as she cried.Lucas was taken away, and I spent an entire month in the hospital.Isabella never left my side. Day after day, she took care of me, and she kept explaining herself. The scarf had been something Lucas bought on his own initiative. She had left it at his place. The only thing she had miscalculated was that I'd happened to witness those few misleading moments."Marcus…" She pressed my hand against her face as she spoke softly. "If anything had happened to you, I wouldn't have wanted to keep living either."And so, for Isabella's peace of mind, I pulled through. The day I was discharged, a large crowd had gathered outside

Watching the two figures standing side by side by the window, I started the car's engine and drove away without hesitation.Isabella and I had originally planned to get our marriage certificate the next day. But the moment I got home, I packed my luggage, this time even faster than the day Lucas had forced me to leave. Then, I walked out of the mansion without looking back.To avoid a repeat of the cab incident, I drove myself straight to the airport. Rain was pouring, and the wipers swept back and forth relentlessly. That was when I spotted the Maybach in the next lane."Marcus, pull over." Isabella's voice came through the car's audio system.Without hesitation, I slammed my foot on the accelerator. I had barely pulled ahead when the Maybach sped through the rain, and Isabella appeared next to me again."Marcus, pull over. Let's talk.""What's there to talk about? You and Lucas can live your lives happily. I won't interfere."Isabella sighed. "Pull over. I want to show you

In the end, Lucas succeeded in winning Chloe over.Realization hit me. All those years, when I lost my temper, Isabella hadn't assumed her "husband" was looking down on her for being poor. She thought he resented her for causing his wife's death. That was why she endured all the humiliation and hardship and why she accepted every unreasonable demand and sarcastic remark."Marcus…" She took my hand and said, "You're the only man I've ever loved. And you'll be the only one for the rest of my life."The moment she fell in love with her late friend's husband, the person standing in front of her had already been me.I awkwardly pulled my hand back."Alright. Let's go home."Lucas never expected that less than 24 hours after moving into the mansion, he'd be asked to leave. Still, Isabella gave him a substantial sum of money. She also promised that, for the sake of her fallen friend's family, she would help him whenever she could in the future.Olivia knew nothing about any of this.

Over those ten years, there had always been a barrier in my heart, even after I started getting along well with Isabella and Olivia. When it came to intimacy, I would still pull back. Isabella would be hurt, but she never pushed. If I was in a good mood, I'd throw her a bone and help her out.Appearance-wise, she was definitely better than Chloe. But whether or not she was better than Chloe in that department, I guess only Lucas would know.I wanted to push her away like I always did. But this time, Isabella wouldn't back down. With a little force, she pinned me firmly in place, lifted my chin, and kissed me. My breathing faltered. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't push her off me. And she was right. She really was better than Chloe."Did you really think I didn't recognize you?" she whispered in my ear as she moved on top of me. "If I hadn't installed surveillance cameras at home, I would've never known about the conversation between you and your brother."As she explai

Olivia clung to Lucas and cried her eyes out. That was when I noticed something. She was far more emotional with him than she had ever been with me.They said blood was a bond that could never truly be severed. Maybe they were right.Olivia hadn't seen her father in ten years. Yet, in a crowded room full of people, she recognized him at a glance and ran straight into his arms."Sir." Supporting Lucas as he stood, Isabella turned to me with a cold expression. "You may be my husband's twin, but that doesn't give you the right to hurt him. He's your brother, but he's also my husband."My hands tightened into fists."As for what happened today, my lawyer will be in touch."I suddenly laughed. Just yesterday, she had said that if a partner could be replaced by another person with the same face, it only meant the love was never real.I guess her love for me was never real.I had promised Lucas that I would spend the next day documenting all the changes in Isabella and Olivia's lives
