Chapter 4

Author: Jojo
“Fine, fine. I lost this round.”

Justin walked over and gave Yale a kick.

“What’s with that look?

“We only added a little peanut to the cake because we knew you were allergic. We made a bet to see if you’d actually eat it.

“Who knew you’d be dumb enough to eat it?”

A bet?

All this pain was because of a stupid bet!

Yale grabbed his throat with both hands. He could barely breathe. His chest felt like it was about to burst.

Moon realized something was wrong. Her expression changed.

“He only had one bite. How could his reaction be this severe?

“Justin, give him his allergy medicine!”

Justin rolled his eyes. He reluctantly took out the medicine and shoved it into Yale’s mouth.

Yale felt the tightness in his throat get worse. The pain was unbearable.

He could not take it anymore. He turned his head and spat out blood.

Just before he lost consciousness, he saw the coldness on Moon’s face crack. She rushed toward him in a panic and caught him in her arms.

When Yale woke up again, he was in the hospital.

Yale moved his arm, and it woke the woman beside him.

“You’re awake!”

A hint of relief flashed in Moon’s eyes. She reached out to touch his cheek but stopped herself.

“Justin gave you the wrong medicine. It made your allergic reaction worse.

“I can make it up to you. What do you want?”

For the first time in five years, Yale saw a softness and guilt in her eyes.

“Do you want me to get treatment for my memory loss sooner? Don’t worry, I—”

Yale cut her off and said, “I want money.”

Moon froze. “What did you say?”

Yale said again, “I said, if you want to make it up to me, give me money.”

Moon stared at him. Once she realized he was serious, she scoffed. She pulled out a card and threw it at his face.

“I should’ve known what kind of person you are!

“If you want money, take it. From now on, stay by my side and show Justin some respect.”

She left the hospital room after that.

She did not come back for more than ten days.

Justin, however, kept sending Yale texts.

[Do you know what Moon is doing right now?]

[She’s with me.]

Justin sent him several photos in a row.

Moon looked happy in every photo.

She watched the sunrise with him from a mountaintop and held his hand as they made wishes outside a church. She even went on a road trip with him along West Ridge Highway.

Yale looked through the photos one by one. His eyes stung badly.

He loved traveling. He used to plan trips with Moon all the time.

Back then, Moon was always busy.

She had to deal with problems within the Xavier family and handle pressure from all sides. She was so busy that all she could do was hold him and say, “After the wedding, I’ll take you anywhere you want to go.”

When she finally had the time, she chose to spend it with Justin.

Yale whispered to himself, “Are you doing all this to get back at me, or have you really fallen for Justin? Moon, can you even tell the difference?”

He let out a bitter laugh and closed his chat with Justin.

He transferred the money Moon had given him to Liam as payment for ending his contract early. Then, he booked plane tickets for himself and Daniel.

‘Forget it,’ he thought.

He did not have the energy to keep trying to understand it all.

Whatever had happened between him and Moon ended here.

Yale never expected Cody to rush into his hospital room that night.

“Yale, Moon was hurt by someone who has a grudge against her.” Cody looked frantic. “The blood bank is running low. You have the same rare blood type as her. Please, save her!”

Yale looked at him. “Would it make a difference if I said no?”

Cody went silent for a moment. “I’m sorry.”

He signaled the bodyguards to hold Yale down.

A long needle pierced Yale’s arm. Blood flowed into the collection bag.

Yale’s forehead was beaded with sweat. His face grew paler and paler. Soon, his vision became blurry.

“Cold…

“Moon, Cody, I… I’m so cold…”

Cody froze. He could barely bring himself to look at Yale.

The doctor beside them grew anxious.

“He’s already very weak. If you take any more blood, his life will be in danger!”

“We’re doing this to save Moon. Yale will understand.” Cody clenched his fists. Tears glinted in his eyes. “Keep going!”

Once they had taken enough blood, Cody hurried away.

Yale lay unconscious in the hospital bed all night.

At dawn, his fingers moved. He struggled to lift his heavy eyelids.

The first thing he saw was Moon’s icy face.

“You weren’t hurt…”

Moon let out a cold laugh. She grabbed him by the throat.

“I lied to Cody and told him I needed blood. I wanted to see if you’d refuse to save me again.

“Guess what? Cody said Justin was the only one who gave his blood without hesitation!

“Yale, couldn’t you do something for me just once? Just once!”

Yale’s face turned red. He flung her hand away.

“Stop… You’re crazy!”

“Crazy? Yes. I’m crazy!”

Moon let go of him. Then, she reached for his clothes and started pulling at them.

Yale’s eyes turned red. He grabbed the water glass beside the bed and smashed it against her head.

Moon had to step back. She touched her forehead.

Her fingers felt wet.

Yale’s chest rose and fell. His hands trembled as he rolled up his sleeve and held out his arm.

His arm was covered with needle marks.

All the hurt and bitterness he had kept inside for so long finally burst out.

He shouted, “I never abandoned you five years ago! I was the one who gave you blood today too!”

“I’m fine.”Yale looked at Elena in gratitude.Elena let out a sigh of relief and turned to Moon. “Ms. Xavier, I’ve spent the past few days gathering evidence against you.“You may have had Kingsley under your control, but I’ve brought everything you’ve done to light. You’ll have to pay the price for it.”Moon looked at Elena’s hand, which was still holding Yale’s tightly. A bitter smile crossed her lips. “Yes. I brought this on myself.”“Moon, what are you talking about?”Cody rushed into the room. “It’s just some evidence. It’s just a lawsuit. What’s there to be afraid of?”His voice grew quieter under Moon’s tired gaze.“I put him through five years of suffering. Five whole years, I was the one who tormented him.“I’m willing to accept whatever punishment I deserve. Cody, you should take care of yourself too.”Cody trembled. His usually straight back suddenly slumped.Yale had no interest in hearing their regrets. He left the hospital with Elena.Yale noticed faint dark

Yale knew Moon would not give up easily. That was why he refused to let Ian come with him when he went out.Halfway, everything went black. When Yale opened his eyes again, he was in a hospital room.Moon sat on the hospital bed. Her face looked a little pale as she stared straight at him. “Yale…”“Ms. Xavier, is this the only way you know how to get someone to come see you?” Yale asked with a mocking smile.Moon sighed and reached out to him, but then she noticed the marks on his hands that had not completely healed. She froze.“What? Can’t bear to look, can you? Didn’t you do this to me yourself?” Yale raised his hands and held them in front of her.“You brought me here without my consent. Are you going to apologize again?“Do you really think an apology can erase everything you did to me? Can it bring my father back?”Moon swayed. “I know an apology won’t change anything, but… Yale, it was my fault that I didn’t believe you.“I’m willing to make up for what I did, but I

Elena’s family owned properties all over the world, including several in Kingsley.Yale could not say no to Ian’s pleas, so he agreed to stay at the villa again. When Yale returned to the villa, Elena was still away.He was a little worried about her, but he did not want to disturb her by calling her. After a restless night, Yale was woken by a noise.“Who’s outside?”Yale went downstairs. The servant looked like she was about to cry.“There’s a gentleman here. He insists on seeing you.”‘A gentleman?’ Yale thought.Yale was silent for a moment. “Let him in.”The servant hesitated before she opened the door. Cody walked in.“Yale, you’re really okay!“You scared me to death! I thought you…”Cody’s eyes were teary. He kept repeating the same words. “Thank God, you’re okay!“Come with me to see Moon.”He reached out to grab his arm.Yale shook him off. “Why should I go see her?”Cody froze. “She shot herself because of you…”“She deserved it.”Cody could not accept tha

At a cemetery in Kingsley, Yale stood in front of his father’s grave with a bouquet of white chrysanthemums in his hands. “Dad, I’m here. I came to see you.“Are you doing okay up there?”Several bodyguards stood behind him. They kept a close watch on their surroundings.Elena had wanted to come with him to visit the grave, but she got caught up with other matters after they arrived in Kingsley. She had still insisted on coming, but Yale refused. “If you’re worried about me, just send a few bodyguards with me.“You’ve already done so much for me. I’d feel terrible if you drop everything just to stay with me.”Elena could not talk him out of it, so she did as he asked.Yale wiped the gravestone one more time before he stood up.As he walked toward the exit, he saw a familiar figure at the cemetery entrance. The woman had lost a lot of weight. Her features looked much sharper, and her eyes focused on him. She looked like she was about to cry. “Yale…”“Disappointed to see me ali

Yale soon pulled himself together.Moon and Cody had hurt him deeply on his birthday. But Elena and Ian were different. They treated him with nothing but genuine kindness. They had no bad intentions. He decided to be just as sincere with them.“I’m just too happy.” Yale wiped away his tears and smiled. “I made my wish. Let’s eat the cake!”Ian was simple and easygoing. He believed Yale and cheered happily. “Delicious cake! Elena learned how to make it just for you!”Elena, however, noticed something was wrong. She looked at him. After they sang the birthday song and finished the cake, it was very late.Ian kept yawning, but he insisted on bunking with Yale. One look from Elena was enough to scare him away.“Why are you being so mean?” he muttered and walked away.Elena pretended not to hear him and walked over to Yale.Yale was still smiling. “Is there something you…”“Were you thinking about your father?”Yale’s smile froze. He looked a little helpless. “You are still as

A hand suddenly covered Ian’s mouth.“Mmph! Mmph!” He tried to protest.Elena pulled him back with one hand and smiled at Yale. “Sorry. You know how my brother is. He’s not exactly the brightest.”Ian finally broke free. “Who are you calling stupid?”“Shut up!” Elena narrowed her eyes at him. Her voice carried a hint of warning. “Do you want to lose your allowance?”Ian immediately backed down and raised both hands in surrender.Once Elena let go of him, Ian straightened up and said somberly, “Yale, I was just rambling.“Elena definitely did not lose sleep over you. She definitely did not stay single for you—”“Ian!” Elena was already starting to regret bringing him here.Yale, however, suddenly laughed. “Your Westorian is really good now, Ian.”Ian lifted his chin with pride. “Of course! I’m a natural.“But you’re a great teacher too…”Elena watched the sadness in Yale’s eyes fade, and her tense shoulders slowly relaxed. She suddenly felt that maybe Ian’s antics were not
