Chapter 9

Author: Peachy
Sienna’s POV

"So, thank you," I said with a small smile. "Thank you for betraying me. It taught me how to love myself."

Then I gently closed the door.

Leaving Dominic alone in the setting sun of a Parisian autumn.

With the door closed, I leaned against it and took a deep breath.

Enough.

I was done being walked on. Done being slandered.

Time to fight back.

I took the evidence Harper sent me and sat down at my computer. I turned on the camera.

I adjusted the angle so my paintings were visible in the background.

Then I hit record.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Sienna Romano."

I looked into the lens, my voice clear and steady.

"A lot of false reports about me have been circulating online. I feel it's time to set the record straight."

"First, I am not a homewrecker."

I held up a stack of printed documents.

"This is the official announcement of my engagement to Dominic Carvalho, published in June 2023. Vivienne returned to Chicago in November 2023."

I hung up the phone and walked out of the gallery.Paris was glittering, the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance. The streets were full of people, happy and alive.I took a deep breath, savoring my victory. As I was about to head back to my apartment, a familiar figure caught my eye.Dominic.He was standing across the street, in front of a small café, wearing a simple black coat.He looked thinner, more worn than a few months ago, but his eyes were clear. Our gazes met across the street.Time seemed to stop.He walked toward me, his steps slow, hesitant."Congratulations, Sienna," he said, stopping in front of me. His voice was soft. "The show was a huge success.""You came?""I've been in that café." He gestured behind him. "For the past few months, whenever you had a big event, I came.""But I never bothered you."I looked at him, my heart a complicated knot."Why?""Because I knew you needed your own space," Dominic said, his eyes sincere. "You needed to prove yourself. To find

Sienna’s POVFall in Paris was more beautiful than I'd imagined. The scent of osmanthus on the Champs-élysées, the rich smell of coffee from the cafés along the Seine.I threw myself into my work.Anselm Kiefer's studio treated me like a star.In just two weeks, they decided to host a solo exhibition for me."Sienna's work has a rare emotional power," Anselm said in a meeting. "Her paintings speak."I stood in the gallery near the Louvre, watching the crew set everything up.My paintings went up on the walls, one by one.Dusk on Lake Michigan. Snowy Night in Chicago. Broken Sunflowers. Each one a piece of my heart."Miss Sienna," my assistant said, approaching me. "A reporter from Art Weekly wants to schedule an interview.""Of course," I smiled. This was my new life.No betrayal, no lies. Just art and dreams. The next morning, I was in the studio making final preparations for the show.Anselm burst in, his face grim."Sienna, we have to postpone the exhibition."The brush fell from my

Dominic's POVHer eyes went dead flat. Cold as a shark's. "Fine. I'll leave.""But before I do," she said, holding up her phone, "I'm keeping these. As a souvenir."I should have known then. But I was desperate to end the charade, desperate to get back to Sienna.I thought I had it all under control. Until Sienna saw Vivienne in the hotel lobby.Until she saw the pictures. The fire in the fireplace died down. The photos, the letters, the memories—all ash.I sat on the floor, Sienna's voice replaying in my head:"The worst part of love isn't the betrayal, or the lies. It's the stupid, hopeful waiting for an explanation."I thought I was protecting her.But my arrogance, my plan, had pushed her away.My phone rang.Marco's name."Boss, the DNA report is in."I answered. "Talk to me.""The baby isn't yours. The doc's report says she's six weeks along. You were with her two weeks ago. The math doesn't add up."I closed my eyes.Of course."Also," Marco's voice turned grim. "We found the gu

Dominic's POVIce slid through my veins. "Who?""Not sure. They look professional. Our guys tried to grab them, but they're good. Slipped away every time.""More men. I want her protected.""Yes. But Boss," Marco hesitated. "Could it be the Russos? They've been looking for a weakness."The Russo family. Our biggest rivals in Chicago. If they found out what Sienna meant to me—I couldn't even think about it."Find out who it is," I said, standing up. "And from now on, I want us to be seen in public less.""Boss?""I won't let her become a target."Just then, my secretary knocked. "Mr. Carvalho, a Ms. Vivienne is here to see you."I froze.Vivienne? Why was she back?"Send her in."She was just as beautiful as I remembered. But her eyes held something new. Something I couldn't read."Dom," she said, her voice still a soft purr. "Long time no see.""What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice flat."I need your help." She sat down across from me. "I made some enemies in Europe. They want

Dominic's POVThe line went dead.My hands trembled on the steering wheel. I floored it.The Ferrari’s engine roared. The speedometer needle climbed. 140. 150. I pushed it harder. On the passenger seat, an Edward Hopper. A rare study for Nighthawks. The real thing. It took me three months to pry it from a private collector. The one painting Sienna wanted more than anything. I’d just tossed it there.I wanted to prove I remembered every one of her dreams.Too late now.I got to the airport.I slammed on the brakes, tires screaming, right at the arrivals curb. A security guard was yelling. I ignored him and sprinted inside.I knew Sienna. Her dream was Paris. If she was running, she was running to Paris."The gate!" I roared as I vaulted the counter and grabbed the clerk by his tie. "Paris!""Sir, please calm down—""Tell me!""Gate C37. Boarding closed ten minutes ago. The plane's gone."I didn't collapse. My legs just gave out.Ten minutes.I missed her by ten minutes.People were star
