KIARA'S POV.
" Jim! You... You?.. "How are you driving a cab?" I ask many questions at the same time. I haven't seen him in a long time. The billionaire's son, who used to be my bestie, We were fine until he started confessing love—that feeling you get when your best friend does that—I plainly told him he was like a sister to me. These lines annoyed him like fuck. "Not even a brother, it's a sister," he commented.
"It's not a cab." Does it look like one? "I see you were in a hurry, so I offered you a ride."He said it with a smile.
"Ohhh... Thanks, sis!" As I say this, I lean back in my chair.
"Wtf"
Mila and Jim join the chorus.Jim immediately halts the car. I know his blood is really boiling. I never forget to remind him that he is like my own sister. a sister I never had. Then Mila should be my elder sister, while he should be the younger.
"I'm truly sorry, Jim.It was a mistake, okay. I apologized, realizing he would never turn on the ignition again until I did so.
He nods. One thing I admire ab about him isout him. He doesn't waste any time accepting an apology.
"And what's up with your dressing" He ask his brows draw close to each other and looking at me and then at Mila. I know what he is thinking. He had already warned Mila not to drag me to her wayward lifestyle.
"It's a costume party... We attended a costume party. Can you now, please, be a little faster? I need to get to work! To cover my tracks, I fabricate a lie.
He turns on the ignition and soon stops in front of my apartment. Mila lives in the next street, so we both alighted.
"I will see you then." "Should I drop you off at work?" Jim asks, also alighting from the car. I nodded without any hesitation. I watched as he sat at his car grill before moving up the stairs. It has always been his habit to wait at the bus stop instead of in his car.
Jim isn't bad-looking at all. Although he wasn’t a male model, he should have been. The lush, mother-lode-gold hair he groomed so carefully had a rippling quality, a sign of his rude health. His only blemish was that he was beetle-browed, and they sometimes knitted in frustration.
The aquiline nose he sported complemented his prominent cheekbones. Handsome in an understated way, his basalt jaw and Spartan shoulders spoke of strength. He possessed a latent, leonine power and always walked with purpose and authority.
People had always remarked that his best feature was his entrancing, wayfarer-blue eyes. Sloe-shaped, they could shine as bright as the evening stars when they were a-light with joy. At other times, they could resemble two liquid-blue pools of flashing fire. Flamboyant of character, the room was always filled with his sonorous, rumbling voice. He was also quick to crack a joke or fire off a humorous retort. His rakish clothes were a source of amusement to some, not least because they emanated an herbal smell.
Overcoming the temptation to keep staring at him from my window, I take off my shoes and immediately go to the bathroom. The first thing I took off was the skimpy dress. I forbade myself from thinking about what happened the previous night. I quickly take a shower and put on my work uniform.
I am supposed to put it on when I get to work, but that will
be a delay, and a dangerous one at that.
I glance at the wall clock. I have twenty minutes to get to the Savante hotel and stand at the kitchen counter with my spatula and long chef's cap.
"Fuck!" I shouted and turned off the gas. I won't be able to eat anything today.
There's no time to check the mirror, but I must confirm that I tied my necktie perfectly. My boss might spare you anything but that. He is so sensitive to it.
I wear my black flats and close the door behind me.
"That was a quick one!" Jim commented once I got downstairs. I opened his front seat and sat down while he turned the ignition on and the speed off.
A YEAR LATER."Luna Kiara," I heard my name being called. It had to take me a while, as usual, to realize that I was the one being referred to. I stood up to answer my husband, Alpha Mateo."Where are the boys, my laun?" He asked with a very worried face. "Dan has gone to school, and Rhett is busy sleeping in the house." I explained. He nodded and went in to confirm that Rhett was still there. "I'd call Dan's teacher to make sure that he is in school." "You know children of these days," Mateo said with a faint smile."You should also worry about your people this way, my Alpha." Dan is okay, as is Rhett. "Grandma wants them," "Yes," Mateo nodded. It's funny how he believes that anytime his mother seeks out her grandchildren, they might not be entirely safe. Soon enough, Dan returned from school and met his father and me at the palace entrance. With my wide arms opened to hug him, he ran to wrap himself around his father. A sting of jealousy struck me. I raised him, but he seems to
MATEO'S POVI woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring, jolting me out of a deep sleep. I rubbed my eyes and looked at the clock, realizing I had overslept by 20 minutes. I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom, quickly brushing my teeth and washing my face. I barely had time to splash some water on my face to wake myself up.I ran to my closet, grabbing the first outfit I saw and quickly getting dressed. I rushed to the kitchen to make a quick cup of coffee, but the coffee machine was on the fritz. Frustrated, I chugged a glass of water and grabbed a piece of toast on my way out the door. I slept well in my old house. Very fancy, but clearly I knew it was for me. I thought about what Jim's father said. If any of my men get to see me, I might have to spend the rest of my life in prison. I sprinted to my car, praying it would start on the first try. Luckily, it did, and I was on my way to work. It doesn't really work, but I guess that's what people call it. I have to get my vis
Mateo's povThe day of the hit had finally arrived. I was dressed in all black, my face concealed by a mask. I was ready to carry out my plan to take down Jim's father once and for all.I made my way to the building where he was holed up. My heart was so willing and confident. I was nervous, but I was also determined. I was a mafia man, and I wouldn't be defeated.I entered the building quietly, my footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. I was moving stealthily, like a predator hunting its prey. I was going to take him by surprise, and he wouldn't know what hit him.I crept down the hall, my hand on my weapon, ready to use it if I needed to. I was getting closer; I could feel it. I was almost there. And then I heard a noise. It was the sound of footsteps coming from around the corner. I froze.. Had I been discovered? Was my plan about to be foiled? Those asses, I hope they weren't shitheads. If not, I will strangle them myself. I took a deep breath and stepped around the corner, my pi

MATEO'S POV"I do not appreciate it when people eavesdrop on my conversation." Miss. I hope you are ready to face the consequences if you ever disclose anything you heard to anyone. " I warned a lady whom I noticed has been unconsciously spying on me.Her face flushed with fear as she looked at me like she would break down. Her pupils burst out in fear. She was so terrified."I ...d..idn't hear anything." She stuttered carelessly. Does she really think she could lie to me? Even a fool would know that she was listening.I looked closely to observe her face, but my eyes mistakenly caught her cleavage. Gross!. She wasn't even dressed. She was putting on a very short crop top that revealed her cleavages and a short skirt that shows her straight legs. "Get lost." I said anoyingly. She was ready to scamper for safety, but I stopped her. "I know your face; if you were a snitch, I'd find you and kill you," I warned with a mean face. She ran off as fast as she could. I am so annoyed that I co
Kiara's povI worried the entire time during the ride home. Daniel kept quiet. His gaze was all on the road and me. I desperately wanted to break that icy silence, but what the hell was I going to say? Huh?. The only sound that awakens me is the honking of the cars. "Thank you so much, Daniel," I finally said, looking at him but avoiding eye contact. "For what?" He asked, still focused on the road. He didn't even spare me a glance. "For ehm everything, thank you so much." I don't know what I would have done without your help. "I stuttered helplessly with my finger clenched rightly to my cloth and my other arm holding Dan so tightly."You're welcome," he replied with a wide smile, which faded almost immediately. "About earlier....""Oh, just forget about that already." "I mean, you are now relaxed," he interrupted. as if he read my thoughts and knew exactly what I wanted to say. "Are you in?" In anyway... Uhm mad at me? " I stuttered and immediately made up my mind not to ask any
