Chapter 111

Lucian’s pov

Elena’s face haunted me in every shadow of the bar. The way her eyes softened when she said Nathan’s name. The way her voice cracked when she admitted her heartbreak. She didn’t even notice how my heart bled in front of her, and maybe that was the cruellest part.

I slammed the glass down harder than I intended. “Another,” I rasped.

The bartender shook his head. “You’ve had enough, pal.”

“I said another.” My voice was sharper, desperate.

“Look, I’m not looking to clean up after some drunk who doesn’t know his limits.” His tone was firm, but not unkind. “I’ve seen men drown themselves at this counter, and guess what…. it doesn’t solve a damn thing.”

“What do you know about drowning?” I shot back, my words slurring. “What do you know about watching everyone you love slip away? First my fiancée, now…” My throat closed, refusing to say Elena’s name.

The bartender’s eyes softened briefly, but his hand stayed firm on the bottle. “I know enough and I know I’m cutting

Chapter 110Jasper povI messed up. I admitted that. I should never have let her slip away. But now? Now she was rising too high, recognition, attention, people loving her like she was untouchable.I would fix that.I would bring her down, and remind her who she belonged to.I smirked, muttering into the empty car, “Nathan’s gone. Lucian’s nothing. And you, Elena? You’ll come back to me, even if I have to break you into pieces to make it happen.”Elena povLucian dropped me off at home. I smiled faintly, waved, then went inside. But when I glanced back through the window, I saw him still sitting there. He looked broken, his head bent, his shoulders slumped.I didn’t understand it. He was always so strong, so composed. But tonight… There was something fragile about him.I almost went back out. Almost. But the weight of the day pressed me into bed instead. I never imagined it would be the last time I’d see him whole.Lucian povI couldn’t move. I sat there, staring at the door she’d dis

Chapter 109Lucian povWhile she spoke, I kept my face steady, but inside I was unravelling.Jasper Cain. The name was enough to ignite a fire in me. That man wasn’t just cruel, he was venomous. To leave Elena for her sister, and to come crawling back with filthy accusations, and still dare to call her names? It was more than weakness, it was evil. And then Nathan. The brother, the missing piece of her heart. I listened as she spoke about him like one speaks of oxygen, necessary and invisible, yet everything. Every time she said his name, her eyes softened, and my chest burned.I wanted to scream my truth. I wanted to tell her what my heart feels for her, I wanted to tell her that since the night I saved her life, I hadn’t stopped thinking about her. That every smile she gave me stitched a wound I’d thought would never heal. I wanted to tell her that after my fiancée’s death, I swore I’d never love again, but she, Elena, changed that without even trying. But I couldn’t.How could I la

  • THE WOMAN THEY COULDN’T BREAK   Chapter 108

Chapter 108Elena povLucian’s question fell between us like a stone dropped into deep water.“Who was that man at the police station, Elena?”His tone was careful and measured, but his eyes carried the weight of curiosity and concern. I knew he deserved the truth. He had defended me when Jasper spat venom at me, had stood by my side when I wanted to collapse. He cleared my name when the whole city had labelled me a terrorist,he saved my life before, but to answer that question meant opening the ugliest chapter of my life.I pressed my palms together on my lap, staring at them instead of his face. My throat tightened. “His name is Jasper Cain,” I whispered, each syllable tasting like poison.Lucian leaned slightly closer, waiting and encouraging without pressuring. I felt his presence like an anchor, steady, but it terrified me at the same time.I drew in a shaky breath. “He was… my love. I thought he would be my last too. I believed in him, trusted him, gave him all of my love, but i

Chapter 107Carmen’s povBut instead, I let my lips tremble, my eyes soften, rehearsed vulnerability slipping easily into place. “Because I care about you,” I whispered. “Because we’re… us. Don’t you feel that, Nathan? Even if your mind doesn’t remember, your heart does. I am here to take care of you so, I won't leave you all by yourself, I will stand by you.”His expression faltered, a flicker of conflict passing over his features. He didn’t argue, but his silence spoke volumes.I led him upstairs, careful to match his slower pace. “There’s something else you should know,” I began, watching him out of the corner of my eye.He glanced at me warily. “What?”I steadied my breath as I led him up the staircase. His steps were slower than before, but his grip on the banister was strong, deliberate. I knew the question was coming even before his lips parted.“In a few days,” I said gently, “we’ll have to attend my company’s board meeting together.”He frowned slightly. “A board meeting? Why

Chapter 106Carmen’s povMy heart leapt, relieved he’d stumbled onto something softer. “Yes,” I lied smoothly, letting warmth colour my tone. “You used to tease me about it, saying it made the car smell like a spa.”That drew a soft chuckle from him, his first since we left the hospital. “Sounds like me.”I smiled, but my pulse raced. He was reaching for memories, and I had to be the one to give them shape.“Do you know where we’re going?” I asked gently, steering into the long drive toward my estate. He shook his head. “No.”“To my home,” I said. “It’s safe there. More secure than anywhere else. There are some people who want to hurt you, Nathan, but with me, you’ll be untouchable.”He turned, studying me again. “Will I live there now? With you?”“Yes,” I said firmly, glancing at him just long enough to let the words sink in. “With me. We’ll face everything together.”For a moment, he simply stared. Then, slowly, his lips curved into a fragile smile. “That doesn’t sound so bad. Livin
