Five Months Later...
Alice was alone in the room studying for an upcoming test, when a thought came to mind. It was about Adam. How he would always defend her against bullies in highschool. Being her Fairytale highschool boyfriend, she had always wanted that to continue. It was a dream come true when she got a scholarship and an admission to study at Columbia University. The same school as him. Even though she’d choose it. It was their dream university. But right now, Adam seems to be a different person. He won’t even reply to her messages. It’s funny how destiny plays its tricks on humans.
Off minded, Alice sighed coldly and a wet spot appeared on the page she was staring at.
“Don’t tell me you’re still on Adam’s issue. What are you thinking?”
“No... Nothing, I’m not thinking. Something just entered my eyes.” Alice replied coolly, wiping the corner of her eyes with her index finger.
“Just take care and move on from the past if that’s what will make you happy, okay?” Jane advised. “Stop beating yourself up on something that isn’t worth it!”
“Okay.” she replied flatly.
“Good.” Jane nodded and gasped, walking out of the room.
Alice still didn’t look up. She was getting fed up with the feelings that kept on fondling on her mind. Her hand split between the scatted brown hair out of her face, to the back as she sniffed. She gazed across the room and her eyes and nose were all red and swollen.
“You won’t understand, Jane. It’s impossible to forget Adam. I need to do something.”
Alice closed her book. A dark look hovered in her eyes as she stared at nothingness.
Later that day, It was almost dusk. The drive to the club wasn’t long. Fifteen to twenty minutes at most. Alice dressed in a black, leathered short-dress with a turtleneck. She also had a black ankle-boots on with her brown hair loose against her straight shoulders.
After dropping from the yellow taxi, Alice unzipped her tiny handbag and handed the driver her transport fare. She watched him zoom away into the busy streets of Greenwich village before turning her gaze. Studying the exterior of the club, there was a huge neon light sign above the door that read ‘Tera Blues’.
They made the facade of the club with red bricks and black paint. The place was very gothic, chic and reek of trouble. Taking a deep breath, Hazel stepped in. A little nervous. She knew she would find him here. Her brown eyes strolled through the empty seats. Some customers were having free hotdogs, beer and whiskey, with jazz playing in the background.
“Is Roman here?” She asked an enormous man she met by the entrance. Although he was thrice her size, she had muttered enough courage to face him.
“Yes, follow me.” His guttural voice replied Alice without turning to her. She followed him with an encouraging smile.
When they reached the front door, the guard let them in without saying a word. It was surprising to her. Raising her gaze, Alice’s eyes met Roman seated on a couch in the dark corner of the room. He pressed the burning cigarette on his hand into an expensive looking, creamy saucer immediately. It was the first time she’d caught him smoking. Alice raised an eyebrow, amazed at how she finally got to meet him here, away from his friends.
“Thank you.” Alice told the huge guy as he walked away. Leaving the both of them. Once he left, Ronan took a firm of her arm, dragging her towards the bar in annoyance. “What are you doing here?”
The dimly lit room too mesmerized Alice. It was uncrowded than she’d expected, only the disco ball rolling above the empty dance floor and the two bartenders.
“I know you come here every Friday night because you deal drugs, so cut the pretense!” She raised at him sharply in a whisper, but her whisper was loud enough to attract others.
“What do you want?”
“I know Adam is my only way to visit Dubai, even though I love him more than my studies. I just want you to help me monitor him. Whoever he likes or chats with, I need to know. I need to know and be sure that he’s not seeing someone else!”
An exasperated sigh escaped Roman, and he rolled his gaze at her, looking around.
“Nobody must be around him!”
“Sorry.” Roman cut her off. “I thought he has broken up with you?”
“What do you mean by that?” Alice rolled her eyes at him.
“What Adam usually says at home is that you’re his past. He refers to you as his ex!”
“Don’t mind him. I’m not his past.” Alice defended. “It’s a normal thing to have arguments when dating. Adam and I still chat, it’s not like we don’t. I’m sure my boyfriend is still into me.” she said convincingly while she leaved on the bartender’s table behind her. “I know with time, we’ll be back. Even in marriages, couple fights and get back together.”
“Okay, if you say so. I’ll agree that you really love him that much, but why would I monitor him? I’m not jobless, you see. I am a very busy person. And right now, you’re disturbing me at my workplace. It’s not enough that you spied on me, tracing me here. You had the guts to come in here, stalking me to do what... Put an eye on Adam? Because I’m what? A serpent?”
“No, it’s not like that.” She tried to smile, but the look on Roman’s face said otherwise. His directness disconcerted her as she looked away from Roman, then back to him again. Nibbling softly on her lower lip. “Don’t misunderstand me, please. You’re helping me here, you’re doing me a favour. I’ll pay you.”
“Now you’re talking the language I understand.”
A smile ripped against her fair round face, hoping he’d agree when Roman grabbed her. More closely this time. He took hold of her slim body with his arms that gripped her hard, pulling her close as if no one was there.
“Roman, no!” Alice pushed away from him. “Not this way. I’ll pay you in cash.” She said, catching her breath.
“Why don’t you date me? I’m very much single, you know?” Roman whispered with his long, hard fingers at her nape. He pulled her face up to meet his, but she pushed her tiny body out of his grip.
“You know that’s not possible.” Alice smiled. “Okay, let’s do it like this. I’ll transfer some money to you immediately o get back to my apartment. Just $1000.”
Roman jolted in surprise. It shocked him because Alice never spends. Her friends normally do the spending. Meanwhile, it was the money she’d collected from Hazel.
“When you complete the job, I’ll give you more.” She added.
“Consider it done.” Roman grinned a sexy smirk in acceptance.
“Good. Here’s my card.” She handed it to Ronan and gave him a soft peck on the cheek before leaving. His eyes blazed with fire while his mouth blew an air kiss in the direction.
Roman watched Alice leave with lustful eyes as she stepped out. He was going to invest the money in drugs and gambling.
It took the girls almost half an hour to complete their make up. Blue was hesitant to put on her new dress. It was from the shopping Hazel did for them a week before. The dress was a purple short, wrap dress with transparent stones, embroidery on it. The purple platform shoe worn beneath the shirt dress was five-feet high. She stared at others, helping them with their dressing. Jane wore a light-pink dress of the same style and Alice wore a sky-blue short dress. The same designer made their outfits. Gazing at her reflecting over the mirror, Blue adjusted her sleekly black hair and fixed to her earlobes, a pair of diamond, dangling earrings. The girls were dressing and admiring themselves in the mirror when a knock on the door brought them into reality. It was Felix and Roman. They came to pick the girls up for Hazel’s birthday party. It was already getting dark, though. It was 7:30 p.m, just thirty minutes before the party begins. Hazel spent the night at home with her mum, so her fri
“That night, I had some money on me. It was for an assignment. A contract for the new company I am working with. I didn’t want to spend the money. I expected that in the matter of a few days, they would make more money to replace that, but it didn’t happen. Right now, my bosses are asking for the money.”I felt a breath close to me and turned back. One of my bodyguards, Calvin, guiding the main entrance, was standing right next to me.“What are you still doing here?” I raised a voice at him with blazing eyes. “Find something doing! Just leave!”“Sorry ma’am.” Calvin replied with his head bowed. He was another annoying worker like Oaklyn.“She said leave! It’s better you go in and shut the door!” Chris intervened. “Stop embarrassing me like this, especially in front of your workers. What kind of nonsense?!” He turned his anger at me as Calvin left.I just watched him silently with a glare.“Well, that’s not why I’m here.” Chris’s voice dropped from the look on my face.“As I was sayin
Back to my room, I closed the door and walked straight to my extra-sized bed. My legs shouldn’t hurt taking off my boots, but from so much dancing, it did. Pulling out a drawer’s chest from beneath my wardrobe, I brought out a box of facial wipes. Taking out my makeup, not sleeping with it. I hate the uncomfortable feelings that comes with having it on for too long. Wiping out my red, chapped lips, the door opened. Without looking back, I knew it was Hazel. She strolled straight to my bed, sitting right next to me. With the full smile brimming through her cherry-red lips, one could tell how happy she was without using words.“My dearest mum!” Hazel started, and I turned to her, swabbing my raised eyebrows.“Thank you for giving me the best birthday party ever!”I chuckled at her excitement in reply.“Thank you, mum!” she hugged me at once, tightly. Hazel lives doing this, especially when she’s elated.“You’re welcome, my dear.” As my arms wrapped against her slim body, I felt the text
As I walked to my workplace, I contemplated about what happened on Saturday night and about meeting with Adam today. My mind raced at the thought of meeting him. I dressed in a velvet red miniskirt, jacket, and a black snakeskin, matching heels, and handbag. It fitted the nude makeup on me more with the deep velvet red lipstick on my rosy lips. We had only met once. Why do I feel this way? I had a weird fascination for Adam, as my thoughts, since Saturday night were all about him. I just have to tell him to forget about me. It’s awkward dating a guy young enough to date my daughter. Stepping into the company, I met Oaklyn and others at the reception. “Good morning,” I greeted. “Good morning, ma.” They replied while standing up with a bow. “Welcome ma.” “Thank you. You guys are looking good.” They gazed back, then at each other, without replying. “Didn’t you hear what I just said? I said you’re looking really nice.” I repeated, focusing on my phone. He just sent me a message that
“You’re talking to me directly, so I’m assuming you don’t have any problem with Beckett's property. “I said over the IP office phone. Oaklyn was standing beside me while I was making a call with a customer. Trying to convince him to buy our properties. You’re already here. The first one is 42. We still have that if 92 as well. I pointed out. We are talking about premium, right?‘Ring-Ring-Ring!’ My vibrating phone on the table caught my attention.‘Ring-Ring-Ring!’ “Please, give me a moment to call you back.” I said over the phone to the customer. “Its just for a moment and I’ll be back shortly.” I ended the call immediately and answered my mobile phone. It was Adam.“Hello.”“Hello Eve, I just drove into your company.”My heart sank at his voice over the phone. It’s his first time calling.“Oh, really?” I cleared my throat, trying not to stammer. Wait, why would I stammer? “Okay.. I’ll infirm someone to direct you upstairs.” I cut the call and turned to Oaklyn, whom like a statue,
“With who?” Somidah asked when I told her. “Didn’t you hear what I’ve been saying?”“I did. I just want you to repeat the words.” She clarified, as if my words were unfit for the ears. I nodded my head listlessly. “I didn’t open up to you for you to judge me.”“Oh, come on Evelyn.” She prompted softly. “I’m not judging you. You know I can never do that. I am just a little sceptical because I know you like nothing that is unfit and breeds disrespect.”“I can’t even say how I ended up in this situation. This boy ticks the right boxes. My mind is always on him whenever he’s not around, and I’m unsettled in his presence. All he wants is to spend time with me. It might be too early to conclude, but he takes me as a priority. Most of all, he makes me laugh.”Somidah raised an eyebrow as if struck by my words. “Adam gives me listening ears. He’s made it so easy to love him.” “It might be true but, calm down.” She cut into my words. “I want to ask you some questions and don’t dare lie to
This page is rated 18.Opening one of my coded fridges, a hand grabbed me from behind. I almost had a heart attack from the sudden touch until I looked over my shoulder and caught the glimpse of him, stroking his fingers in my hair. It was Adam. As I turned back to him, his long hair, well styled in a bun, filled my nostrils with its scents and my body, untouched for so long, throbbed and tingled. Yet, I still struggled to escape from the exquisite torment of his visiting lips that first fluctuated around my cheekbones. His tangling fingers that settled at the small of my back made me hold unto him. The of the chilly, opened fridge kissed my back while he leaned closer to me. His hand snaked front of the side of my arm to close the fridge's door. And as he leaned closer, I placed my back in the fridge with my gaze fixed on his. A little lower than mine. I felt a surge of affection. So strong that the feeling brought a lump in my throat. "I... I need to get a drink." I excused mysel
The door knob pushed and pull in a flash and I gasped up at once. It’s a good thing Adam locked the door after he entered. ‘Knock-Knock-Knock!!’“What’s that... Whose there?” I breathed, pushing Adam up so he leaves. I can’t believe it settled Adam right now. It did not even move him. “Get up!” I whispered, pushing him up with all the strength left in me, but he wouldn’t even move.“There’s someone at the door. Leave!”“What?” He replied, and I cupped his mouth. “What are you so scared of?” ‘Knock-Knock-Knock!!!’“Who’s that?” “It’s me, mum!” I heard and my heart dropped at once. “It’s Hazel... She shouldn’t know.” Adam made very firm eye contact while I glared at him. “Just hide in my restroom for a moment!” I demanded with serious, unblinking eyes. ‘Knock-Knock-Knock!!!’ The knocks came again. Louder and faster this time. She must be in a hurry. “Give me a moment!” I yelled at her and turned back to Adam with pleading eyes. “Are you saying we should keep this a secret?” A
