I kept sitting in the room wondering about what had happened.

Alpha Orion talked to me.

But why? Did he notice my absence?

The thought brought a small smile to my lips. Was there finally some hope?

The dinner was sent to the room by Alpha Orion. I finished everything without thinking about anything else for the first time in days.

The dinner had everything, it was organized unlike the plate Bernadette had prepared for me earlier.

I started chewing the brownie slowly, my thoughts wandered around the place I went to earlier. There was something about the place which I could not explain, there was a unique feeling. I felt drawn to that forest...and the girl.

Flora.

Who was she?

I never got the chance to ask her anything else, what was she doing there all by herself? She was not scared of being there alone.

Wolves were known to live in the lap of nature but the forest was not for everyone.

I drank some water and inhaled a deep breath.

A knock on the door startled me, I glanced at the large clock......9 pm.

Clearing my throat, I went ahead to greet the visitor.

"Where were you?" Bernadette threw the words in my direction as she invited herself inside the room.

I did not answer.

She turned around with her hands folded in front of her chest. She was staring at me with a stern look, the look which reminded me she was the beta....not any normal wolf. I kept trying not to look away even though I wanted to run away from her gaze. Her aura was strong...almost too strong.

She was already tall and I felt like a kid who got caught doing something wrong in front of her.

She finally sighed, "What were you thinking?"

I did not answer.

"We all were so worried about you. If you wanted to go somewhere you could have told me. Orion almost went crazy when he got the news about you."

The last part caught my attention.

"He was?"

Bernadette scrunched her brows in confusion, "Ruhee, he is your soulmate, Of course, he was worried about you. I came here to check up on you and you were not here. He made everyone search all the corners of the entire pack for you. People did not know who they were looking for."

The words felt foreign. Why was he worried? He did not talk to me before this day. Why was he suddenly behaving as though my disappearance affected him in any way?

I wanted to ask the question but I decided to stay silent.

"Where did you go?" she asked again.

I bit my tongue not knowing if I should tell her about the forest.

"I was just wandering outside, I needed some fresh air."

There was a brief pause before a small smile appeared on Bernadette's face. I knew the look very well, those eyes were filled with sympathy. "I am sorry you have to stay inside all the time but it is just for a while once everything becomes sorted you'll be free to go anywhere you want."

Sorted?

"You mean I can not leave this place?"

She pressed her lips together keeping the same sympathetic look in her eyes.

"Whenever you want to go anywhere just tell me, I will join you and you will not be bored."

I could not leave this mansion without a babysitter, because I was not strong enough to defend myself. I was not good enough....why was I in his mansion?

"How about this, I will show you the pack whenever you want?"

I lifted the corners of my lips, "Thank you."

I knew what Bernadette was trying to do. She was sugarcoating Alpha Orion's words like a good beta. I knew what was the meaning behind these words....I was not allowed to step outside. Eleanor was not allowed to go anywhere alone because she was a human. But these people did not know the truth about me and yet they were sure I could not defend myself.

Alpha Orion did not want me to be seen by anyone. He did not want to answer the unwanted questions.

"Do not get any wrong ideas in your head," Bernadette started, "things are rocky right now but soon Orion will make everything right just have some patience. He does care about you even though it is hard for you to believe right now."

I gave her a slight nod with a small smile.

"Good night, Ruhee."

"Good night, Bernadette," I replied in a small voice as she left the room.

Was she right?

.

.

.

The constant train of thoughts kept running inside my head. I kept staring at the large clock, the hands were moving but the time was still the same.

I could not get the place out of my head, no matter how much I tried.

After trying to call Eleanor four times, I gave up and sat on the bed silently. The loud silence was killing me, it was becoming unbearable with every passing minute.

The ticking sound of the clock was not helping at all.

I could not sit there any longer.

I opened the bedroom door and kept walking. I was about to take a step outside the mansion but paused.

What was I doing?

What if I got caught?

I licked my lips and ran my eyes to scan the area. No one was around.

I already met Bernadette and knew she would not return for another three hours.

Inhaling a deep breath, I took a step outside carefully.

To my surprise, no one was outside to stop me.

I continued walking, this time I did not have to create crosses or any other marks on the soil. My feet seemed to remember the path very well. Before I knew it the same sound of waterfall fell into my ears bringing a wide smile to my face.

I was finally there, away from everyone, away from my thoughts.

But I was wrong.

"You are late."

  • Heart of blood and roses    Cursed person

"How is he?" Rose was sitting on the stairs outside Kai's house, crushing something in a white mortar and pestle. She paused, hearing my sound. "Luna," she acknowledged my presence with a warm smile.I sat down next to her, "Can I see him?"She shook her head, "It would be best if no one meets him until he wakes up. I don't want the influence of dark magic on anyone else."I let out a breath, "When will he wake up?"It had been one day without Orion and I was feeling overwhelmed with everything. Bidding farewell to Celia and others was not easy, I had to make sure no one doubted Orion's absence. "The blue mark is fading," Rose replied as she added a palm-shaped leaf into the red paste and started mixing it. "I am sorry you had to stay here taking care of a person you have never met before."She smiled but the smile was dull compared to her other smiles, "I am helping you. My mother would have wanted this.""Where is your mother?"She hesitated and increased the motion of her hand.

  • Heart of blood and roses   The only person who could help us

Kai had returned but was unconscious.Flora was missing. The red moon had passed but the shadow moon was another mystery for me to solve. Orion was trying to find the person behind Kai's condition. Bernadette had given him details and footage of the areas around the pack, he was locked in his office trying to connect the missing strands. I let out a long breath and thought about seeing Celia."Luna," I was stopped by a voice, followed by a sound of someone colliding with something. I turned around to find Rose rubbing her knee with a scowl on her face. "Are you okay?" She immediately corrected her posture, "Yes, Luna.""I am just going to meet Aunt Celia," I informed her and waited to know if she was going in the same direction as well. She turned her head right and left to check if we were alone. "I-I need to talk to you," her words were careful. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. "The gamma." She stopped. I nodded giving her a sign to continue. She inhaled a deep b

  • Heart of blood and roses   Well-wisher

The ceremony was completed 3 nights ago, we accepted each other in front of the whole pack and the pack accepted us in return with happiness For the first time, I had everything I wanted and nothing to wish for. I managed to sneak away from everyone to meet Flora, she had become a part of my life and yet I knew nothing about her. My foot steps were not slow, I was not taking my time to look at the trees and flowers on the way. I was running towards the river to greet my old friend and tell her the good news about surviving the blood moon.I finally slowed down after reaching the river and scanned the area. My smile dropped instantly, for the first time, there was no sign of Flora anywhere. "Flora?" I called out her name, which was foolish but for some reason, I thought she was nearby and could hear my voice.I waited before walking further, "Flora?"No response, just the sound of running water and birds. I decided to take a brave step and go to the other side of the river. I suc

  • Heart of blood and roses   Are you ready?

"We can't thank you and your coven enough, Celia." Orion repeated. Celia smiled in response, "You are a part of our family now."Between the sounds of knife, fork and spoon, a sharp sigh got mixed in the dining room. I looked at Ruth, who kept cutting a piece of meat on her plate, the pieces kept increasing, but nothing was being eaten by her. She did not like me, it was not a surprise, it was understandable. Maybe she was also not sure about a stranger entering their lives. But she was my sister. They had proved their loyalty to us and now it was my turn to take a step in their direction. "But I must say, Alpha, I am not entirely happy." Silence. Bernadette and Orion shared a look, the lack of expression on their faces made it hard to read what was going on inside their head. But I knew they were thinking, were there any mistakes from their end in the arrangements for our guests?"Did we do something to upset you?" Orion was being careful with his words. Celia was too exhaust

  • Heart of blood and roses   Was the nightmare really over?

"This is not right." My gaze kept moving between my hand, where I was feeling the faint warmth and the sky. The moon appeared normal...just like any other night. I had been feeling something in the pit of my stomach, at first I was sure it was fear....but it was not fear. It was doubt. The preparations had been made, Celia and Ruth were waiting for me where they had been staying. "Should I trust them?" The question had been bugging me ever since I returned from the forest. How could I trust anyone? I had learned from a very young age not to lower my walls for anyone...but these people were my family...my blood.Shaking my head, I put on a smile I had perfected over the years. The dagger sitting inside my jacket provided some comfort, if they did anything, I would be ready to protect my pack. ..."My dear, we have been waiting for you," Celia grabbed my hand and dragged me to stand inside a circle. Ruth did not bother to glance in my direction and continued feeding something to

  • Heart of blood and roses   The river

The blood moon was almost above our heads. I could feel something in my body, the fear of losing people, the disappointment of letting others down, the confusion of my new identity."And that is why my dear you should always be careful with pronouncing your spells," Celia continued as she added some dry herbs into the cauldron. I smiled with a nod. She had been trying to teach me as much as she could, which meant she did not stop talking about the spells, coven, and moon. But the truth was I could not focus entirely on her words, so much was going on inside my head...I did not know if I should trust her. The boiling sound kept coming along with laughter of Celia as she told the story about 'my mother'."Dear, did you notice any signs of magic yet?" I shook my head, "Nothing so far."I knew Orion did not mention the change in eye color to anyone and I had promised Flora not to utter a word about what happened. She smiled, "It's completely fine, you might be a later bloomer."I just
