Chapter 0003

Max kept his head down without a word. He looked ashamed.

Danielle smiled. “It was all because you said I was a gentle soul.”

The woman went up and blocked Danielle from looking at Max. “It’s my fault, Danielle. I was the one who hit on Max. I’m the one with no shame. He’s a good man. Don’t blame him, please.”

Danielle tried to keep it together as she side-eyed the woman. She told Max, “They say that people have to pay a price for their youth, and you’ve given me the most painful lesson of my youth. I should thank you, Max. You taught me that men aren’t reliable. Thank you for making me grow up.”

“I’m sorry, Danielle.” Max could only apologize.

Danielle sighed, shook her head, and smiled. “Max, you don’t need to feel like you owe me anything. We’re even now. Thanks to you, I've found the job I needed. As for you, Rochelle, the moment you jumped into Max’s bed, our friendship was over.

“He’s yours to take, but I have one request — don’t act like we're friends anymore. I won’t waste my friendship and kindness on you. I need to rush to a tutoring job now, so I can’t have a romance under the rain with you. Goodbye.”

After that, she took a step back and hurried past the pair to the roadside.

Her mind was racing, so she did not see the black Bentley turn into the school gate.

She did not realize it until it was late, and she knocked into the car.

Danielle staggered backward and fell onto the ground.

Max, from behind, cried out in shock, “Danielle!”

He was about to run up to Danielle, but she propped herself against the car with her back to him.

Without a word, she limped to the side of the car, opened the car, and got in.

There was a passenger in the car.

However, she did not get a good look at the passenger. Instead, she stared at Max approaching through the car window and then told the chauffeur, “Drop me off at Academia Road, or I’ll report you for running into me.”

Worried, the chauffeur looked back at the man in the car.

The man’s voice was alluring. “Do as the lady said.”

With that, the chauffeur reversed the car and headed away from the school.

As they pulled away, Danielle looked out the car window in a daze.

Her heart ached at the thought of Max.

Max would never know what she had gotten herself into the night before because of him.

The thought of it filled Danielle with regret. She knew better than to act recklessly.

Now, she had lost Max, a friend, and her purity.

As she reflected on yesterday, she wondered if it was the worst day of her life.

Beside her, a man handed her a white towel. “You’re wet. Dry yourself off.”

Snapping out of her thoughts, Danielle took the towel from him. “I’m sorry to ruin your… Mr. Burt?”

She looked at the man next to her. She said she would never see him again, but here he was.

Danielle was at a loss for words.

“What? Are you surprised to see me?”

“Uh…” Danielle stuttered. “Why are you here?”

“Ms. Wendell, should I remind you that this is my car?”

Only then did Danielle realize that she had barged into his car.

“Oh, I’m sorry for getting your car mat dirty. I’ll clean up your interior as soon as the rain stops.”
