CHAPTER TEN

Challenge.

The first time she successfully made a chemical, it was her grandfather's birthday.

Everyone was so happy and proud of her, especially her father, who's a chemist. She's only nine at that time, very young.

Since then, she always stayed by her father's side and side by side, they invented chemicals that is now known in the world and still leading the list.

“How was it?” Dwayne and Rey asked. They looked at her with excitement.

The glint of happiness on their faces are very hard to missed. “What do you think?” she asked.

She raised a bottle that she had been working on for the past two months. No one physically saw her in those months because she locked herself in her personal laboratory.

For her to be able to finished it.

“Is that it?” Dwayne asked as his gaze was fixed to the bottle in front of them.

Waverly smirk and took Dwayne's hand. She placed the bottle in his palm and tapped his shoulder. “Yes, I finished it. Now, all I have to do is to meet with Butter and test it.”

“You'll test it to Butter? Why not me or Rey?” Dwayne asked curiously.

Waverly smirked at him. “Do you think I'll be able to witness you or Rey fell for me? I know it will be fake but still, it's giving me goosebumps.” she said frowning and hugged her body as she acted like shivering.

“Fine! Do what you wanted.” Dwayne scoffed and handed the bottle in her palm.

“What's the name of it?” Rey asked while crossing his arms.

“I'll call it, Flames of Heart.”

Excitement filled her heart when she picked up her phone to call Butter.

“Hey, Butter!” Waverly beamed. A smile is stretched on her face.

Butter chuckled. “You already finish with the potion?”

Waverly nodded her head as if Butter is in front of her. “Yep! Can we meet? You agreed on being my tester.” she said in a singing voice.

“I know, but—” Butter sighed, “I'm sorry, A. I'm out of the country, I'm in Spain now.”

Waverly titled her head. “Ha? What are you doing there?”

“Family emergency, I'm genuinely sorry. Maybe, we can reschedule?”

Waverly smiled. “It's alright, B. I understand, but I can't reschedule because this potion has a deadline. I'll talk with Rey and Dwayne instead, and I'll finish the antidote in a week.” she replied.

The two chatted for a few more minutes before they ended the call.

What should I do now with this?

Shaking her head, she went back to the laboratory and started working on the trial antidote.

Unlike the love potion that had many ingredients, the antidote only has four, which are:

a. Fresh local honey

b. Cyclamen

c. Melatonin

d. Chemical X.

The chemical X was her own made chemical that can made someone forget. While Cyclamen represents the goodbye of the forgotten love. Melatonin triggered the sleep side, which is needed for the bait to leave the target.

It's only the trial antidote because she doesn't know if the love potion really worked.

As much as she loves making mistakes and all, she can't afford to lose in this challenge. Her membership is at stake here.

Ever since she was young, she always loved the RVS organization. There are two types of membership there. First, the bloodline and second, the challenges and qualifications.

Her friend, the late Queen Aretha, is a member of RVS by bloodline, and Waverly heard the stories by the Queen. She admired the mission of the organization that she promised Aretha, she will enter it once she comes of age.

But, things happened, that's why her application was just registered last year of December.

She smiled while remembering the old times. It comforted her that she worked calmly and at peace.

Waverly took the beaker and bottle, and she placed it on the table. She poured the four bottles of honey into the beaker and petals of the Cyclamen before she mixed it.

She mixed it for thirty minutes before she added Chemical X and continued to mix it for twenty minutes more. Lastly, she added the Melatonin in her mix before she putted it on her freezer and left it there for three hours.

I hope these two works. I can't embarrass myself in front of Maman.

Waverly smiled, looking at the bottle in front of her. This may not work because it's her first time but, she's ecstatic about being able to finished it.

If the potion is called: Flames of Heart, she'll name the antidote: Cleanse of Flames.

It will help her remember the names better because it sounded similar.

Waverly picked up her phone and dialed Rey's number for a video chat. “Hey!” She shouted and waved at the camera.

“Yah! Do you want to break my eardrums!?” Rey exclaimed on the other line while glaring at her.

She shrugged. “I don't know… maybe?” she said teasing him and smirked.

Rey scoffed. “Why did you call?”

“Well, Butter is out. Be my tester?” She said sweetly at him while blinking her eyes cutely.

“Call Dwayne for that, doll. Do you want me to die by the hands of my person?”

She pouted. “Call Dwayne then, R., please? I already made an antidote for this chemical, you don't need to worry.” she said, clearly persuading him to agree to her offer.

“I know that, doll, but still… you knew how crazy my person can get, right? She's your friend too, but I don't want any issues between us.”

“Fine, I'll talk to Dwayne.” she replied and smiled at him.

Moments later, Rey is seen in the background while Dwayne is in front of the camera already.

“Hey!” Dwayne greeted lively, "I heard from Rey, I'm in since you're already done with the antidote. I just really hope that this will work, okay?”

“Yes! Thanks, D. I'll meet you at the café in ten.” she said happily and hanged up.
