REBECCA'S POV

"What exactly do you want, Reyes?"

Our eyes were tightly fixed against each other, none of us wanted to falter.

Kendrick's head lowered along with his body, and I held my breath. "Are you sure you want to hear it? I can be quite demanding."

His long lashes fanning slowly. "Can you keep up, Belmont?"

What a joke.

Did he think he could scare me like that?

I was about to say something when his voice interrupted me and my words died inside my throat.

"Take me out to dinner then," he said, like it was the most natural thing in the world. My heart stuttered, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.

What game was he playing, and why did part of me want to play along?

"What?" I blurted out just after him, but he crossed his arms.

"What is the problem, Belmont? Can't keep up?"

I narrowed my gaze, letting my eyes wander over him. Kendrick Reyes didn't look like an easy man, and somehow a part of me didn’t see this coming like a coincidence like Jessica had mentioned.

KENDRICK'S POV"Mind your business, Jessica," I snapped, pulling my shirt to cover my neck. This necklace belonged to Becca, but apparently not anymore because I may have snatched it one time when we were growing up and I didn’t return it.I was going abroad, and I never knew when I was going to be back, so the necklace was my keepsake.I held it close so I could still feel tethered to warmth despite my cold, dark, lonely reality. She was my sunshine even though she doesn’t realize it just yet.Jessica tried to peek again over my neck, but I moved away. "That really looks familiar, where did you get it from?"I clicked my tongue, my body leaning against the chair. She was persistent like a bee."It is none of your business. How many times do I have to spell it out for you?" I grumbled, and my gaze shifted back to Jessica. That playful smirk coursing through her lips effortlessly as she leaned against the table, her elbows pressing against the wood for support."That looks like somethi

It was just as I remembered—dim lights casting a warm glow over the room, and the gentle melodies seeping into every corner. There was a certain comfort in the familiarity of it all, but at the same time, it felt strange.I couldn’t remember the last time I had stepped foot into a party like this.Felix always thought it wasn’t important, always tucked me away from the world.I was his little treasure, something too precious to be shared. It was as if he wanted to hide me from everything and everyone, like I could only exist in the shadows of his world, unseen and untouchable. What a joke. But now, standing here, I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of something—freedom, maybe, or just the weight of everything I had been missing."Where are they?" Do you think I can't hit you again, huh?" she groaned, jerking my shoulders, but it only made my belly tighten even more.I took a deep breath, finally. "I'm sure Felix wouldn't believe that his delicate, soft Anna can do things like this," I snarled closer, my breath on her face, eyes searching hers."You're not truly ill and weak as you paint yourself to be, right?" I cocked my head towards her unyielding grip. When she trailed her gaze to mine, she gasped, trying to pull away, but I grabbed her wrist, yanking her closer."You can fool the whole world with your fake smile, delicate demeanor, and fake illness, but you can never fool me—because I see you for what you truly are."I scoffed, clenching harder over her wrist. REBECCA'S POVThe room was still. No one moved. The only sound was the gentle clink of glass sliding across marble as the fragments settled.Felix stood frozen, drenched in golden liquid, his expression unreadable. A tight vein pulsed at the corner of his temple. Miriam stared in disbelief, her jaw slack.Jessica stepped beside me slowly, her arms folded. “Keep running your mouth, and being drenched in champagne might just be the least of your mystery,” she muttered, and Felix’s eyes tightened."Oh, don’t give her that look because you had that coming for a long, long time," she added with her usual sly smirk. But I glanced at her. My eyes were still fixed on Felix.“Don’t flatter yourself,” I said, voice smooth as silk but sharp as a blade. “Nothing I do has anything to do with you anymore. It never did, and it never will.”The tension in the air crackled like electricity. Slowly, Felix wiped his face with the back of his hand, his jaw clenched tight. His tongue darted out to lick th

The day I would have to step up into the family business, but I didn’t think it was going to be so soon.I didn’t hesitate to dial my assistant and personal bodyguard’s number—Lewis.“Good day, boss,” he greeted the moment he answered the phone. If there was one thing I loved about him, that would be his sharp wit and responsive nature.“I’ll be going for a meeting in our family house, and I won’t be able to keep track of her movement. I need you to keep her safe while I’m not watching her.”I took a deep breath as I felt my hand tighten over the wheel even more.“Today’s her big day.
