Chapter 4

Author: Nora Blythe
She had curled into herself, her face twisted in agony.

"My child! I'm bleeding!"

Talia was rushed to the hospital.

With red eyes, Evan roared at me.

"You're insane! If anything happens to Talia's child, I won't let you off!"

By the time Mrs. Isaacson arrived, Talia's baby had just been born.

It was a boy.

After seeing the child, Evan looked at me smugly.

"Gavin, I don't know how Talia and I offended you, but the child is innocent. You should be grateful Talia was lucky enough to give birth safely."

Mrs. Isaacson, who had been praying the whole time, instantly breathed a sigh of relief after learning her grandson was safe.

Then she raised her hand and slapped me, her gaze toward me cold to the bone.

"You really should be grateful. If anything had happened to my grandson, I would have had to reconsider your marriage with Talia!"

I pressed my lips together and looked at the child, my heart full of bitterness.

If my children had lived, the oldest would already be seven.

"I'll divorce her. The assets will be divided by the lawyer."

But no one took my words seriously. They were all immersed in the joy of Talia's child being born.

In the blink of an eye, the baby's christening arrived.

During that time, I turned a blind eye to Talia and Evan.

Talia seemed surprised by my refusal to argue or fight. From time to time, she'd appear in front of me.

"Gavin, I know you're sad about the children, but I had no choice.

"This was the only way I could be with Evan. But don't worry. Once the child is born, he'll call you Dad and fulfill your wish..."

Her voice carried a hint of comfort, and her attitude was no longer as hard as before.

When I said nothing, Talia became impatient.

"No matter what, the child is already born. If you try anything against him, I'll fight you to the death!"

I lowered my head and said flatly, "Don't worry. I'm not interested in your child."

To celebrate the christening, Talia invited all the important people in our circle.

Their gazes toward me were filled with strangeness.

"If we're talking about the most tolerant man in the circle, it has to be Gavin."

"Right? His wife miscarried seventeen times, and he insisted it was his fault. He nearly ruined himself over it."

"Shh. Did you forget Talia already paid hush money? What if he finds out?"

Their low whispers reached my ears.

I found it almost funny. So everyone knew Talia had deliberately aborted those children.

Only I had foolishly believed it was my fault.

In front of outsiders, Talia still looked like a virtuous wife.

She held my arm and smiled through everyone's congratulations.

Evan suddenly spoke from beside us.

"As the child's biological father, Mr. Sharpe must have prepared a gift for him, right?"

He emphasized the words "biological father" heavily.

Everyone who knew the truth looked at me with playful eyes.

The smile at the corner of Talia's mouth stiffened slightly. There was a trace of warning in the look she gave Evan.

She quickly tried to smooth things over.

"Gavin already gave his gift at home..."

"Of course I prepared one."

I interrupted Talia and stepped away from her.

Under everyone's expectant gaze, I took out the divorce agreement and the birth certificate.

"My first gift to the child is his birth certificate.

"My second gift is to set you and Evan free, so the three of you can be a family.

"My third gift...

"Is that from now on, we owe each other nothing."

She bent over and cried hysterically."Evan! You ruined my life. I want a divorce!"You took my money, kept women outside, and opened nightclubs. How can you be so shameless?"She hung up fiercely and stood there like her soul had left her body.Talia turned back to me, her eyes red."You heard that. I'm divorcing Evan. Give me another chance, okay? You used to love me the most."She was right.Whether when we were children or after we were married, I'd given her the best of everything I had.But that had been built on love.I looked away, got into my car, and drove off.Talia cried as she chased after me. All the passersby stopped to watch.Talia didn't give up.To save the Isaacson family, she continued to wait downstairs at my company every single day, rain or shine. She'd even started affecting other people. At last, I couldn't tolerate it anymore."Talia, do you really want me to call the police?""Then call them. You can call them right now."Talia looked as if a

"I can't help you. Even if I wanted to, Talia would think I was disgusting."You heard that recording yourself. To elope with Evan, she aborted all seventeen of our children."Those children were once buried behind the old estate. You, Talia, all of you! Not one of you ever visited their graves."Do you all think children who weren't born were just lumps of rotten flesh?"Under my sarcasm, Mrs. Isaacson lowered her head in shame. When she left in embarrassment, I added one more sentence."Mrs. Isaacson, please be more careful in the future. I'm no longer the Isaacson family's son-in-law, so there's no need for you to keep calling yourself Mom."After that incident, Mrs. Isaacson never contacted me again. But I often saw entertainment headlines about the Isaacson Group struggling on the edge of bankruptcy.Aside from regular treatment, I spent the next three years seriously managing the business my parents left behind.People around me also asked whether I wanted to move the c

Evan saw me too, and his already livid face became even uglier. He yanked Talia over and looked at me with ridicule."Didn't you say we'd never see each other again? How did you find out where we were?"Judging by the way you look, you must be having a rough time."You might not know this, but all those herbal medicines Talia made you drink were tampered with."Talia's face went white. Her voice turned sharp."Evan, what nonsense are you saying?""Am I wrong? Talia, you keep saying I'm flirting with other women. I think you're no different."You're still hung up on your ex-husband!"Talia grew anxious and quickly turned to me in panic."Gavin, don't listen to Evan's nonsense..."Her voice grew smaller and smaller. Clearly, she had no confidence.I had no interest in listening to the rest. I said casually, "There's nothing to explain. I said that if we ever meet again, we'll be strangers."Before I left, I could still hear Talia calling after me and Evan cursing.Someone p

I didn't reply. I didn't even open Talia's wedding video. When the divorce case went to court, Talia and I finally met again."Sign it."Under the guidance of the staff, I handed the pen to Talia. She didn't take it. Instead, she lifted her chin at me."At the end of the day, we grew up together and were husband and wife for seven years. I admit I wronged you, so you can ask me for one condition."As long as I can do it, I'll agree."I smiled faintly and placed the pen in front of her."Then I hope we never see each other again. Let's pretend we've never known each other."The curve of Talia's lips stiffened slightly. She frowned and stared at me hard, trying to find some other emotion on my face.Only when the staff began urging her did Talia finally sign her name. She was somewhat angry."Don't worry. I'm dying to leave you too. Now I'm with Evan, my old wish has come true, and I have a son with him. No matter what, I won't ever think of you!"I just hope you won't regre

The moment I finished speaking, murmurs rippled through the venue.Talia stood frozen in place, confusion written all over her face.Mrs. Isaacson reacted first and forced a smile to smooth things over."Gavin, what do you mean by that? Today is your child's christening. Don't make a scene."As the head of the Isaacson family, Eleanor cared most about appearances.I interrupted her directly."Mom, he should be their child, not mine."My children are still buried behind the old estate. Everyone here knows Talia aborted those seventeen children because she wanted to divorce me."I turned to look at the stunned Talia."The assets under our names have already been divided at the company. What remains now is marital property."You cheated first. My lawyer will handle things properly. If you object, you can talk to the lawyer."After hearing this, Talia finally snapped out of her shock. She trembled with rage, and her voice rose sharply."What do you mean? Today is our son's chr
