I could barely remember how I got home. Every passing thing on the road remained a blur—the little children playing on the streets, restaurants filled with people, food stalls overflowing with people eagerly waiting for their turn to be served, and animals moving on the road. I almost hit an old woman. The shouts and noise from passersby jolted me out of my subconscious state. I quickly apologized and offered to take her to the hospital. She looked at me and kindly rejected the offer. She patted my back and told me to take care of myself, as I wasn't looking too good. I thanked her, got into my car, and drove off.

Ava’s words kept ringing in my head.“You don't have a child with him, and I guess that's what really bothers you, isn't it?” I couldn't shake off the thoughts. I gripped the steering wheel tighter. My hands were shaking as I drove to Clara’s apartment. Clara is my best friend and has always provided emotional support. She has been with me through my highs and lows.I t

AVAI could feel it slipping off my hands. The distance. The chills.Liam now barely looks at me. Before, his eyes were always filled with guilt and confusion, but now,his face carries something worse. His face was screaming with clarity. It was like the scales have finally fallen off his eyes and can now see clearly who I was and what I have done. And I didn't like that. Not after everything Ii have gone through because of him. I can't lose him.I walked round the penthouse and went towards his room in one of his shirts. Something I always do whenever I want to feel close to him. Or make him talk to me.I saw him sitting on the couch, while working on his laptop. A cup of coffee was on the table.“Hey,”I said while walking close to him.”you're still working till now?” I asked knowing fully well I won't be getting an answer to that.“I have meetings tomorrow.” He said.“You used to stay up with me,talk with me but not anymore.”“That was before everything turned into a lie.”Those words

Chapter 14SOPHIALucas’ office wasn't what I expected. It wasn't one with high rise and cold glass walls with silence echoing like Liam’s. No intimidating silence or people walking all over with suits. No black furniture. No pressing of buttons to summon the secretary. Instead,it was warm and inviting. It was peaceful and comfortable. It was a blend of modern and rustic with clay pots with flowers. Wooden bookshelf. Neutral background. Quiet jazz playing in the background.A space that felt peaceful. It was as if it was built with healing in mind.“This will be your space if you accept to lead this foundation.” Lucas said, pushing the door to reveal a smaller office. The walls were painted with a shade of nude. Sunlight filtered through the window. It has a chair, desk and a small frame hung on the wall with the inscription,“From Brokenness,we Build.”I turned to look at Lucas, letting the weight of the words I just read sink.”Do you think I can do this?”Lucas said,“ I don't offer le

  • Her Billionaire Ex-Husband's Regret   The night Things Changed Quietly

Chapter 13LIAMTwo Years Ago.It was supposed to be just another business meeting. The kind I'd attended before. Sharp suits, heavy handshakes with hundreds of people and meeting businessmen as usual. Godfathers trying to matchmake their sons with daughters of a high conglomerate. Clicking wine glasses and sipping of champagne.I stood in one corner of the room, quietly sipping my champagne while staring at people. Sophia hadn't been able to make it. She was down with malaria and needed some rest. I offered to stay at home, but she urged me to go.“It's just a business meeting,Liam. Just show your face. I’ll be fine.” She said reassuredly. I didn't think about it too much but now that I do. If I had stayed home that night. I wouldn't be this miserable. It was a night that changed my life. The night I met Ava.She was there standing by the bar and laughing at maybethe joke the bartender made. She wore a short red dress showing off her curves. She looked so enticing and seductive in her

CHAPTER 12SOPHIALucas had picked a quaint càfe nestled between two charming bookstores on a peaceful street. Inside, the gentle hum of soft jazz floated through the air, blending perfectly with the coffee cups and the occasional flips of book pages from the bookstore. It wasn't loud or crowded. It was intentional, calm and reflective. The kind of place that listened more than it spoke.I arrived at the cafe early just like my usual self–punctual, cautious and intentional. Subconsciously,my hand danced around the rim of the mug of coffee in my hands,my eyes flickering to the doors every few seconds.A few weeks ago,I was trying to put together a crumbling marriage and here I am sitting in a cafe to discuss how I'll build a foundation with a man I barely know. And yet, this felt not easy……but right. After five minutes,Lucas arrived in a grey sweater and dark jeans. He knew how to make his appearance blend in.“Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long?” He said while sliding to the seat

LIAMI couldn't recognize my life anymore I could barely recognize the man in the mirror. He looked so much like a shadow of his old self. The suit was not fitted like it use to be. The tie looked like a noose. With each passing day,I felt like I woke up in a stranger’s skin. Even the skyline outside my window has lost its shine. It's been one week. One full, heart wrenching week. And Sophia……hasn't called yet.I tried calling her several times. I'd sent tons of messages and voicemails. I'd even contemplated going to Clara's house on my occasion but I was held back—either by fear, guilt or both. Her silence was punishing but….I deserve it.Ava didn't understand any of that.Ava has become more confident and proudly walking around my house like she owned it. She truly thinks she belonged here. She cooked breakfast without asking me. She picked my calls like hers. She leaves her clothes in my closet. Ava now has the audacity to wear my clothes and even invade my privacy. Worst of all,she

  • Her Billionaire Ex-Husband's Regret   The Offer

SOPHIAThe air that morning was cool, the sky was dull gray,as if the clouds were holding the tears on my behalf ,and the wind carried a quiet chill that whispered through the trees. Leaves, rustled softly, and the air felt expectant,as if the world was holding on to something it couldn't yet say. I sat alone in the neighborhood park, wrapped in an oversized hoodie I got from Clara, with a mug of earl grey tea in my hand.I stared into spaceI needed to be alone–to breathe. My emotions have always been in a quiet war since I left Liam’s house. I haven't been able to be alone–to think straight and breathe. Anytime I start healing,I get a new message from Liam and drown back into the swarm of confusion. Anytime I think of Ava,the burned anew.I was tired of being held by my past. I desperately wanted to be free. To start a new life while putting my past behind and courageously facing the future and what it holds for me.“Can I sit with you?”I looked up, startled.LucasI was really surpris
