ARIA

When Caspian had walked away, I climbed the stairs to my room, and changed into pants and blazers. I knew what I needed to do. I didn't care what Zara had to say about my engagement.

What I did care about was her trying to get in front of this and use me to make herself more popular. After all anyone connected to the daughter-in-law of the Finnick’s was considered powerful.

I texted Zara, sending her the recording of Rowan’s voice, agreeing that he had planned the rape against me. When I saw that she had seen the message, I called her.

“If you're not out of there in five minutes, Zara, and I mean five minutes, I will be sharing that recording on social media and tagging you.”

I heard Zara’s shocked gasp. It felt fulfilling to hear the breathe knocked out of her for once. She whispered something to Talia.

“Aria, what the hell do you think you're doing?” I heard Talia say into the phone. “You can't go to the media with that, you'll ruin Zara’s fashion line that's just about to dro

ARIA I could see Zara’s eyes looking at the decor, the guests, and finally me. A comment must have been brewing just on the edge of her tongue. I didn't give her the time to pull the first punch. Stopping just in front of them, I smiled at my father, leaning in to hug him. “Welcome, Father.” He hugged me back, his body feeling smaller than I remembered. But what did I remember? When was the last time he held me in his arms like this? “Happy birthday, Aria. Everything looks beautiful,” my father said, his eyes still sweeping the venue just as Zara and Talia were doing. “Oh this? Caspian planned everything. I had no idea he had all this on his sleeve.” Smiling up at Caspian, I stretched, placing a kiss on his cheeks. Suddenly, my lunch didn't sit well in my stomach because Zara leaned forward and I knew the last thing I wanted to do was hug her. Holding my arm out, I shifted away from her and slid my arm into father's. From the anchor of his arm, I smiled at Zara and Tali

ARIA “Caspian…” “Don’t.” His voice brushed my ear, the air from his lips warm enough to scatter my thoughts. “Just trust me.” Easy for him to say. I was standing in heels, blindfolded, while his hand settled at my hip and curled there like he owned me and the ground I was standing on. “You’re enjoying this way too much,” I said as Caspian pulled the blindfold tight behind my head. “Maybe.” There was a smile in his voice, the one that made me both want to roll my eyes and drag him into a dark corner, and kiss him. I'd missed the part of me who had no worries, and just for today, he had given me that woman back. His hands fell away from behind me, and I felt small hands slipped into mine. “Come on, Mommy,” Nylah whispered, and I could feel her bouncing with excitement. Lark’s fingers held my other hand, and I squeezed gently. “What is happening?” I asked as they pulled me forward. I hoped we were going in the right direction, because I could barely see a thing through the b

CASPIANThe look on her face almost made me forget the plan. Aria turned to me slowly, those green eyes wide and shining in the sunlight, her lips parting as if she couldn’t quite breathe. And I knew exactly what she was thinking. She was thinking the Bentley was my gift. Except it wasn’t.Her eyes jumped from the car to me, and I could see the disbelief in her eyes giving way to something else. It was softer, and it made my chest expand in a way I wasn't prepared for. Tears filled her eyes like tiny diamonds, clinging stubbornly to her lashes. “Hey, Doll,” I said, reached for her hand, and squeezed. Her palm was warm, my pulse drumming against my skin. “Do you like it?” Michelle asked, walking over to Aria and taking her other hand. “We thought you needed a new car.” “Do I like it? It's a Bentley, I can't take that!” Her eyes raked over the three conspirators, who were now waving their hands, voices loud as they begged her to take it. “But do you love it?” Aria’s mouth opene

ARIA “Happy birthday to you… happy birthday to you…” I blinked awake, shaking the sleep in my eyes. “Caspian?” Caspian was sitting on the bed beside me, shirtless. “Yes, Doll?” he asked softly, holding out a tiny cupcake with a single candle burning on it. My heart did a ridiculously sharp slam, because what business did he have looking that handsome so early in the morning? “That's not how the birthday song goes…or is this a Caspian remix?” I murmured. Caspian grinned, holding the cake out to me, he leaned in, his thumb brushing the corner of my lips slowly. “The song sounded perfect to me,” he said. “You…remembered… my birthday?” I shifted closer to his warm body, stuttering my words. “Make a wish, Aria.” I closed my eyes, though all I could think of was him. His lips, his hands, the weight of his body pressing me down into the sheets. Him and the kids, the four of us together. I blew out the candle, and took a tiny bite of the cake. His lips dropped to mine, s

CASPIAN “What did you do, Reed? What are they talking about?” I walked into my office. Reed’s voice was rough and defensive when he answered. “I wouldn’t be so damned stressed if I fucking knew, Caspian.” I stared out the window at the city. My pulse thudded behind my eyes. First Aria, now Reed. “I’ll call you back,” I said, ending the call down before he could be further stressed. “Stay close to your phone.” My fingers curved around the edge of my desk as I exhaled slowly. This was a manhunt. These weren't random threats. There was a plan, a message. First, Aria, then Reed and Michelle. I wondered if Xander and Nyx had gotten one too. Was there one waiting for me too? Duke's eyes were narrowed on the reports he was looking through. “There’s trouble,” I said. “Isn’t there always?” His sarcasm dried up the moment he saw the look in my eyes. “What now? Is Aria safe?” I nodded once. “Aria’s fine. For now.” The words burned as they left my lips because for now wasn’t good en

CASPIANMy office felt like a bomb was about to go off. I'd been pacing for the better part of an hour, my fingers clenched into fist at my sides. The surveillance photos on Ivan were spread across my desk like this was some twisted card game. I wanted to rip the town apart until I found him and fed him his own tongue. The bastard had killed a cat. For God’s sake, even some monsters had their limit. And it didn't escape me that killing a cat could only escalate into a human being. Fuck!“Ivan’s been keeping his head down, but we've got eyes on him.” Duke said, pushing a blurry photo forward. “Our contact was able to get this picture of him meeting with Rowan again last night. It was the same location as before but they had more men. I'm thinking something spooked them.” I stopped pacing. “Where? I want to find him now.” “The old warehouse district. We're close to finding his exact location.” “Tell me where he is, Duke.” Duke glanced up at me, shook his head and went back to work
