ARIA

After making the decision to marry Caspian, it became easier to breath. It wasn't that my problems were over, but I understood that they were at least cut in half.

The next morning, I allowed the children to stay back from school. It was for them, but mostly, it was for me. I wanted to see them and hold them and know that they were safe.

Caspian arrived at the house before eight. He lifted Nylah into his arms, kissing her cheeks and just holding her. I sat beside him, holding Lark.

It felt almost like we were a family unit. As though the kids were Caspian’s and mine not Rowan’s.

When the children fell asleep, Caspian took them up to bed and returned. I prepared for the argument we would have but when he stepped back in, he didn't say a word.

He just sat beside me, took my hand in his and asked a simple question. “Do you trust me, Aria?”

I nodded. “Of course.”

He shook his head. “I don't think you do. But I think you should. I don't know why you changed your mind, but I won't

CASPIANThe man tried to argue but I moved to block him completely. For a few seconds, it was tense. Finally, Aria’s father gave up. He muttered something under his breath and walked away with his shoulders tight and his jaw clenched.I watched him go, then I exhaled. I turned to Xander, who was still standing by the bench.Xander nodded to the seat and I followed him, sitting down with a sigh.“I’ve been looking into what you asked,” Xander said after a moment.I turned to him. “And?”Xander looked me in the eye. “You might want to brace for this.”I sat up straight. My entire body was tense. The words hit me way harder than I expected it to.“What did you find out?” I asked.Xander hesitated. And I knew whatever it was, it was going to change everything, because Xander wasn't one to hesitate.“The night Talia said you raped her? She was at the club the whole time. Multiple people saw her, and she left with Zara right before dawn.”I blinked, caught off guard. “That’s not possible.”

CASPIAN I stood and paced to the hospital window with my arms folded and my mind all over the place. The burner phone thing had caught me completely off guard. I’d been sitting there for a while now, trying to make sense of it before she woke up. And it just didn't make any sense. I knew Aria probably had secrets. Hell, everyone did, but why would she go as far as buying a burner? That wasn’t a casual choice. She had something up her sleeve that she wasn't sharing with me. That was the kind of thing you did when you didn’t want to be traced. When you were planning something in secret. Or when you didn’t trust the people around you. I glanced back at her on the bed. She was sitting up now. Even weak, she looked stunning snuggled into her sheets, her eyes round and large in her face. She looked like she wanted to speak, and I didn’t push her. I just waited. Finally, she said. "I got the burner because I had something on Rowan. I wanted to release it without anyone know

ARIAThe first thing I felt was the pounding in my head. Then the weight in my chest, heavy enough to keep me still. The pain was explosive somewhere in my forehead. It took me a second to realize I wasn’t in my car anymore. White walls, bright lights, and the faint smell of antiseptic.I was in the hospital.I blinked slowly, my eyes adjusting, and that’s when I saw Xander sitting in a chair across the room.“You’re awake,” he said, standing. His voice was calm, but his eyes weren’t. They were staring at me as though he was worried I would die.Considering the pain in my side, I wasn't sure that I wouldn't. I tried to speak, but my throat burned. “What happened?”He moved closer, resting a hand on the bedrail. “You were in an accident. But you’re fine now. Caspian…” He stopped and looked toward the door. “He’ll be back in a minute.”“Xander.” My voice came out rough, and I hated how weak I sounded. “What happened?”He hesitated. I could see the answer in his face before he spoke.

CASPIANXander moved closer. “What do you want to do?”“What the fuck do you think?” I asked, frowning at him. “Find Rowan. He can't get away with doing that to her.”Duke’s voice came over the line again. “Caspian, listen to me. If Rowan is involved in this, he’s desperate. That makes him dangerous.”“I’m dangerous too.” I ended the call before Duke could say more.I didn't want him to try convincing me, I wasn't going to be convinced. Xander didn’t try to stop me. He just fell in step as I headed for the elevator, my phone already in my hand, dialing Markus again.“Track every camera between that store and Rowan’s last known location. I want eyes on him in ten minutes.”“I’m working on it,” Markus said. “But if he’s switched cars again, it might take a while.”“You’ve got five minutes,” I snapped and ended the call. The elevator doors opened. I stepped in and turned to Xander. “Stay here. If anything changes with Aria, call me.”“Caspian…”“I said stay.” My tone left no room for a

ARIAThe bastard had the guts to smirk at me. “Think about it, Aria. Think about them, they deserve a family.”“They have one. It's just not with you, and it never will be.” I said coldly. “Aria! Don't try me. You won't get another chance like this.” I could hear the warning in Rowan’s voice and it made me stop. “What are you going to do that you haven't already done, Rowan?” His mouth curved, but there was no humor in it. “There are so many things I could do. Don’t make me have to do them.”“You mean like threatening me in public? Because that’s what this looks like.” I took a step closer, staring at him the way you stare at something you’re ready to burn to the ground. “You don’t scare me anymore.”“You should be scared,” he said as his hand shot out, closing around my arm. His fingers dug in, hard enough to leave bruises. He pulled me closer until I could feel his breath on my face. “You don’t know what you’re playing with.”I didn’t think or even pause to reconsider. I slapped

ARIA The first thing I felt when I woke was heat. Strong, steady heat, and the weight of an arm thrown across my waist like it owned me. It was Caspian. For a second, I just stared at him. He was asleep, bare chest rising and falling, his jaw hard even in rest. He looked like nothing could touch him. I hated that it made me feel safe. My body moved before my brain caught up. I traced a line down his chest with my fingertips. His lashes flicked up, and his grey eyes locked on mine. The kind that stripped you down even when you were already naked under the sheets. “Couldn’t sleep?” His voice was gravel, thick with sleep. “Something like that.” His hand slid from my waist to my thigh in one slow drag. That was all it took. One pull and I was under him as his mouth crushed mine. The kiss wasn’t sweet, and it wasn’t careful. It was teeth, tongue, and the sound of the headboard hitting the wall. His hands pinned mine above my head like I’d ever get away from him, and he
