ARIA

The third impact was hard enough to drive my forehead into the wheel. I jerked away, feeling so much pain in my forehead.

I didn't have time to look into the mirror again. I turned on the car and drove faster, certain that they were keeping up behind me.

A cold, crawling panic began to fill my veins. I needed to escape, and do it soon. I looked around as I drove, trying to find a road I could escape into.

There wasn't any, and I looked up into the mirror again, trying to get a look at whoever was behind the wheel. It was impossible. The car rocked forward and followed barely an inch behind me.

The road was wide enough for us to move without much fuss, but the other car didn't move off. It didn't try crashing into me again, which made me think they were only trying to frighten me.

Was this Markus? I remembered the feeling of being watched I'd experienced earlier. But why would he try to hurt me? It didn't make any sense.

I gritted my teeth when the car drove even closer, hornin

ARIA “We don't know who sent those. We didn't pick any fingerprints off it.” Oh. I sat back, a sigh of relief escaping my lips. I could deal with these one at a time. I sat back, closed my eyes, and tried to shove it all away. “Aria,” I heard Caspian’s voice as if from afar. Opening my eyes, I saw that we were parked in front of my building. I sat up, rubbing off the sleep from my eyes. I'd drifted off during the drive. Caspian helped me climb out of the car. I walked with him to the door, and inside the house. Immediately I did, I saw Reed on the couch, pushing a toy truck between him and Lark. Michelle had Nylah on her lap, making her hair into cute little braids. I stopped at the door. “Oh. I didn't know you two were here.” Nylah’s eyes fastened on Caspian and she hurried over, almost jumping into his arms. He held her, twirling her in a circle as always before he smacked a kiss on the corner of her lip. “Hello, Princess.” Reed was watching the both of them with a d

ARIA I got tired of waiting for Caspian, and left his office. I was much calmer. Analide was in her office and came around to talk to me, but I shook my head, not in the mood to talk. She placed her fingers on my arm. “Caspian said I was to inform him if you tried to leave.” I shrugged. “You can, but I'm leaving. I'm tired of waiting.” With each passing minute, my thoughts only became wilder. After dwelling on it for the last hour, I didn't really believe it was Zara or Rowan. Maybe Vivienne, but definitely not Zara or Rowan. They were too dumb for that. Or maybe it was even Talia, after all she had been standing right outside my office door. And how could she tell such a lie to Caspian? I shook my head, and walked away from Analide as she called Caspian. I was tempted to return to my office, but I went straight to the parking lot. I should have waited for Caspian. Talia was standing beside his car, looking impatient as hell. I walked over to her with rage. “How dare

CASPIAN Talia frowned up at Duke, then hid her face under my arm. I shook my head at him. “Don't.” I turned to walk away, my arm around her shoulder, then stopped. “The flowers are on the table, along with the note. I'll be back in a few minutes.” Talia clutched my shirt as we walked away. I heard Duke open the door and close it behind him. I was barely aware of my surroundings as I walked Talia to the parking lot. “Where's your car?” She tightened her fingers against my skin, clawing at me. Her tears rapidly came pouring out again. “I don't want to be alone right now.” “Talia, I'm at work. I'll be with you immediately I'm done.” Her cries became even louder and she wouldn't move. “I can't be alone right now, Caspian. This is your fault, I shouldn't have to bear it alone!” I pulled in a breath of air and prayed for patience to deal with her. “Fine, sit in my car for a moment. I'll be back.” I told her. I walked her over to my car, settled her in, and walked away, hurrying up

CASPIAN It was easy enough to see that something was very wrong. Aria ended the call, massaging her temple harshly. I caught her hand. “What's wrong?” She looked up at me, her eyes eerily calm and green. “Someone just made a delivery of twenty black roses to my office. I need to go see it.” Fuck! I took her hand, but she pulled it away stiffly. I let it go. I walked ahead of her until we got to her office. Opening the door, I stepped in and searched the office with my eyes before allowing her into it. The bouquet of flowers was on her desk like a centerpiece. Dark roses tied with a black, silk ribbon. She gasped behind me, her fingers holding onto my sleeve as though she could hold herself steady through me. “It’s real,” she whispered. “God, I hoped it was a mistake.” Aria's footsteps led to the table, but I brushed her hand away when she tried to pick up the note. “Don't touch that. We'll need to pick some fingerprints off that, and we don't know what's in there.” I said

ARIAI made sure I cleared my desk, finished work, and cleared my schedule with Mara before the two hours were over. I had no idea how long the meeting with the investigator would take, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it back to the office. Calling Mara into my office, I picked up my tote bag. “Mara? I'll be back tomorrow. If anyone asks, I had an emergency.” “Alright, Miss Stanton. But before you leave, aren't you planning a party for your birthday?” She followed me outside the door. Shaking my head, I answered. “No, I don't believe so. Maybe next year?” Mara frowned at me. “But Miss Stanton…” She wrinkled her nose, trailing off.I tapped her shoulders as I walked off. “I'll let you know if I change my mind, Mara. Until then, no.” I knew for a fact that I wasn't going to change my mind. There was nothing to celebrate when my father was possibly dying and I had already lost my job. Mara would probably be reshuffled to another executive if I left Infinity Corp. The thought
