Chapter 1

Author: Maple
When Seraphina was being bullied, everyone at the academy just stood there and watched.

Sure, she was the undisputed campus queen—but her bloodline was low, her status worthless.

Some people poured rotting blood on her. Others spread rumors that she was whoring herself out in the human world.

After she killed herself, not a single person showed up to her memorial.

"Just some lowblood vampire. She's dead. So what."

The night before it happened, Seraphina had been locked in the abandoned chapel.

By the time I broke the blood seal on the door, she was curled up beneath the MoonSilver altar, an iron collar—the kind worn by blood servants—clamped around her neck.

She grabbed my hand.

"Mira, if your bloodline is low, are you just supposed to take it? Let anyone degrade you?"

I told her no. Over and over. I told her I'd stay by her side and fight back with her.

But the next morning, she drove a MoonSilver spike through her own heart.

And now, the blood ledger she left behind is granting wishes to every single person who humiliated her.

How could I possibly believe that's forgiveness?

So when Nora tried to leave her blood print on the ledger, I clamped down on her wrist and wouldn't let go.

"Mira, let me go."

Nora's fingers were shaking.

"The physician said my brother's bloodline is already drying up. He won't survive the next full moon."

I shook my head. "This blood ledger isn't a blessing. It's a curse."

"A curse?" Nora's head snapped up. "Vivian got her beauty. Dorian got his recommendation. Everyone else is fine."

She wrenched her hand free. "What makes you so sure it'll hurt me?"

"Nora, none of this adds up! Just wait—"

"Easy for you to say!" Nora cut me off, her voice rising. "But I can't afford to wait!"

The room went dead quiet.

Only the blood ledger kept throbbing, slow and steady, like an exposed heart.

Vivian was the first to laugh.

"Mira, you don't have a brother. How could you possibly understand what Nora's going through?"

"Yeah—her brother's life or death? Obviously that matters way less than you proving you're the only one here with a brain."

My fingers curled tighter. "I just want Nora to wait."

"Wait?" Vivian shot me a look. "For what? A front-row seat at her brother's funeral?"

A few low laughs rippled through the crowd.

Dorian leaned against the wall, hands in his pockets, and drawled, "Mira, give it a rest."

His tone was calm, but it carried that familiar top-student arrogance.

"Everyone who left a blood print proved the ledger works."

I looked at him and said, word by word:

"Don't forget—the one who started this blood ledger was Seraphina."

I looked down at Nora's pale face. "Then say it."Nora clenched her skirt. A long time passed before she finally forced the words out."I saw all of it. Seraphina being bullied. Every bit."Nora's lips trembled, pain rising in her eyes."She came to me once. She begged me to testify for her, to report all of it to the academy."She lowered her head, her voice growing rougher."But I refused."Dead silence all around. Her confession cut through everyone's disguise like a dull blade, slow and brutal."But I never laid a hand on her!"Nora's head snapped up. "Mira, I really never touched her!"I looked at her calmly. "You never hurt her with your own hands. Does that make you innocent?"Nora froze."I was just scared." Her tears finally fell. "If I helped her, they'd come for me too..."I cut her off. "What if the one cornered in that chapel had been you?"Nora's pupils shrank."If you'd been the one getting hurt, I believe Seraphina would've helped you. She was that kind."I walked up to

Dorian answered the call, listened for a moment, then suddenly lost it and roared:"Impossible! The Black Council can't revoke my recommendation!""What? What do you mean permanently frozen?"Gasps went up across the chapel. After he hung up, Dorian's head snapped toward me."Did you do this?""The blood ledger took back your wish." I smiled coldly. "That was your choice."Dorian froze for a second, then let out a cold laugh."So what if the recommendation's gone?" He raised his palm. "I still have my true name! I still have black flame!"But his palm was empty. The arrogance on Dorian's face cracked, bit by bit.He spoke his true name again. His palm was still empty.Black flame was the power his true name granted him. The proof he used to look down on everyone."No..." His voice finally started to shake. "My true name...""Your true name has been erased by the blood ledger." My voice was ice.Dorian crumpled like every bone in his body had been pulled out, staggering to his knees."G

No one in the chapel spoke.Only Dorian laughed first."Just an illusion."His voice was still arrogant, though the tail end was tighter than before."Who's to say this footage wasn't fabricated by Mira to frame us?""Exactly." Vivian picked it up right away. "Who can prove any of this is real?"She looked around, her gaze sweeping the pale faces."It's just a blood ledger trick. Don't fall for Mira's game."Dorian suddenly walked up to Ian."I heard the blood ledger lifted your family's exile order?"Ian's expression changed instantly."You think my family doesn't have the power," Dorian sneered, "to send you back to the abyss?"He glanced at a few others, his tone casual."And you lot—watch your mouths. Use your brains before you open them.""Your territory taxes, your family protection, your academy spots—every one of them depends on my family."The ones who'd been wavering shut their mouths.A few students even shifted half a step closer to Dorian.Seeing that, Vivian got bolder an

[Seraphina's POV]On Seraphina's first day at the academy, Dorian blocked her in the hallway. He wore a noble's black-silver robe, a few lackeys trailing behind him."So you're Seraphina."Dorian held out a deep red rose. "Take it. Come watch the moonrise at the North Tower with me tonight."Seraphina stopped and shook her head politely."Sorry. I'm meeting someone else."The smile on Dorian's face froze. He probably never imagined a lowblood vampire would turn him down."Do you know who you're rejecting?""I do." Seraphina glanced at the flower in his hand. "That's exactly why I'm making it clear."Dorian stared at her, his eyes cooling by degrees. He threw the rose to the ground and turned away. The petals scattered everywhere, like splattered blood.Seraphina stood there and heard people whispering behind her."She actually dared to reject Dorian.""Just because she's got a pretty face, she thinks she's above an ancient noble house?"Seraphina didn't think much of it. She assumed th

After my words fell, no one in the chapel answered.I pulled up a chair and sat down.No rush. They were the ones who should be anxious. That was when Ian suddenly stepped out from behind the crowd. He'd just used the blood ledger to lift his family's exile order. If the wish failed, he'd go back to the lightless abyss.Right now, his legs were shaking so hard, every step looked like he was walking on the edge of his own grave."I have something to say."Dorian's head snapped toward him. "Ian, you'd better think carefully."Ian avoided his gaze, his voice trembling. "Seraphina being pushed out—it was Dorian who gave the order first.""He told us to kick her out of the course groups. No one was allowed to team with her."Ian swallowed and went on. "The rotting blood and the iron collar... he had those prepared too.""Shut up!"Dorian was in front of him in an instant, one hand clamped around his throat, lifting him off the ground.Ian's face went red fast, his feet kicking in the air.I

In the end, the Inspector followed my instructions.Everyone gathered in the old chapel again. But this time, I was the hunter. And the blood ledger, pulsing slowly, was my loyal hound.I looked at the crowd and said, low and steady:"Tonight, I'm the one running the repayment ceremony."Vivian sneered right away. "Who the hell do you think you are? Why would we listen to you?"I pointed a finger at her.The countdown scar on her wrist burst into blood flame.Crimson fire seared Vivian's skin. Her scream and the smell of burning flesh hit the air at the same time.I waited a full thirty seconds before snapping my fingers. The blood flame on Vivian's wrist vanished. She clutched her wrist, staring at me with shock and fury.Gasps rippled through the chapel.Dorian stepped back and pointed at me. "You're connected to the blood ledger after all!""This whole thing was a setup between you and Seraphina!"Everyone's expressions changed.I looked at them and suddenly felt how ridiculous this
