Alexander's POV

She approached the table and paused beside the purse. The woman was still focused on her phone. She moved closer, seemingly reaching for something we didn't see; her body blocked the camera’s view of the purse.

My heart began pounding nonstop.

She remained there for a few moments. Her hands moved slightly; I couldn't see what she was doing.

As she was about to back away from the table, the recording ended. And the ballroom became deathly quiet.

Aria's POV The girl sank to her knees, sobbing. “Please forgive me. I didn't want to do it. I swear I didn't! She paid me, and I was only following her instructions.”The guests began to share glances as they whispered to each other. “Who paid you?” Alexander demanded. Her gaze dropped to the floor. “It… it…it….”“Speak up!” Alexander's patience was wearing thin. And the girl flinched at the sound of his voice. She looked up, immediately glancing at Beatrice. "It…" she hesitated for a minute before swallowing her saliva. “It was Mrs. Beatrice Walk....”“Liar,” Mrs. Walker rushed toward the girl without allowing her to finish the statement and slapped her. “Did Mrs. Sterling pay you to ruin my reputation?” Before she could attack the girl again, one of the security guards blocked her path.“Madam, please.” Mrs. Walker pushed him away and faced the old man. “She's lying! Your granddaughter-in-law must have bribed her to come here just to save herself.”“Okay, let's see about that.”

Aria's POV Alexander's mouth straightened immediately, although the amusement in his eyes hadn't entirely disappeared.Mr. Walker pushed past his wife. “Alexander, you need to control your wife!” His voice boomed through the hall. “How dare she accuse my wife of stealing her own purse? Is this how the Sterling family treats its guests?”“Mr. Walker, nobody has accused your wife of anything. My wife is asking for the same investigation everyone else is demanding.”“Bullshit!” Mr. Walker pulled out his phone.“Honey, call the police. I'll make sure she answers this.” Mrs. Walker seized the opportunity.“Let's settle this without creating another scandal,” Alexander replied calmly. “There is nothing to settle.” Mr. Walker's face reddened, tapping his phone screen. “Our friendship ends tonight, Alexander. I won't forget this humiliation, and I will make sure your wife regrets insulting the Walker family.”I could no longer contain my irritation. “Perhaps you should examine your own hous

  • Her Face, My Wife's Shadow    Chapter 83: Turn the Tables

Aria's POVI stood in the middle of the ballroom, surrounded by people who had already convicted me without giving me a chance to explain myself. Their whispers travelled from one corner to another, accompanied by disapproving glances and smug little smiles. If Williams hadn't warned me that someone was plotting to frame me, I might have lost my temper the moment the footage appeared on the screen. He had urged me to remain calm. The culprit would be exposed soon, he had promised. But seeing the situation now, I don't think it could happen anytime soon. Anyway, I knew from the start. And the first person who came to mind was Veronica Sterling. She had threatened to destroy me upstairs. She had promised to expose my supposed secrets and make me pay for them. I had underestimated her determination, foolishly believing she wouldn't dare create a scandal during her father-in-law's birthday celebration. How wrong I had been. A bitter smile danced on my lips. A woman willing to take anoth

Her hands moved slightly; I couldn't see what she was doing. As she was about to back away from the table, the recording ended. And the ballroom became deathly quiet.“What’s wrong? Why did it stop?” I asked James, feeling annoyed. The recording didn't show us if she really took the purse or not. “I don't know, sir." James tapped several keys on the laptop. “Give me a moment. It may be a playback error.” “Be fast!”“Yes, sir.” James checked the recording again. I could feel every pair of eyes in the room shifting toward Aria. Mila looked confused while Mrs. Clara appeared equally unsettled. Aria's expression had gone pale.“Seriously, Mr. Sterling?” Mrs. Walker's voice sliced through

Alexander's POV Murmurs spread through the crowd while Grandfather's face hardened. “Mr. Walker, we can handle this peacefully without making things get worse.” “No, Alexander,” he said, his voice getting louder. “The purse isn't what bothers me. I can buy whatever she lost in that purse a hundred times. What infuriates me is that someone had the audacity to touch her belongings.”I kept my posture composed. “Mr. Walker, I apologize for what happened. We'll investigate thoroughly and recover everything.”“No,” he raised a finger. “Things will go my own way.”“Alright. Before then, let me handle it for now. If the culprit isn't yet found, you can take over.” He observed me for a while before nodding his head. I faced his wife. “Tell me exactly where you last had your purse.”She pointed towards the table. “I placed it on the table to use the restroom before the cake ceremony.” “What does it look like?”“Black leather, silver clasp. My initials are engraved on the front.”“Who was

Alexander's POV The sentence Williams delivered shattered the remaining hope I had spent weeks refusing to let go.My heart ached, and I refused to let my face betray what was happening inside me. I closed my eyes, my fingers curling slowly. He noticed my silence and how hard I tried not to shed a single tear. “Alex…”“I know,” I admitted, opening my eyes. “I know she's not Isabella, but I can't just accept it. I even promised Aria if I successfully catch the Boss, I’ll send her back to New York. As long as the Boss is still out there, Aria isn't safe.”The thought of the Boss finding her again made every instinct inside me rebel. I couldn't lose another person because of that man.“It's a good choice,” Williams agreed and suddenly remembered something. “Before I forget… the Sketch Man I invited over has arrived.”A sparkle of hope stirred inside my chest. “Really? When?”“Yesterday,” he replied.“Why didn't you tell me?”“You've been occupied, and Aria wasn't doing well. I didn't w
